Traditional Restaurants
San Stefanos has an abundance of restaurants for you to choose from, most of which are family run businesses. They serve traditional Greek home made cooking and most offer international cuisine to suit all tastes.
Waves – Traditional Greek food and fish.
** Waves is where the locals used to meet, it was also where the only phone in the village once stood and is one of the oldest restaurants in San Stefanos. It is currently run by Angelos who took over the family business from his father. The Waves restaurant is situated at beach level towards to the old harbor. It is very popular in the daytime with people nipping from the beach and is also a favorite in the evening for those who want to watch the sun set behind the Diapontia Islands as they dine. The restaurant has a spectacular offering of Greek traditional specialties as well as fresh fish dishes.*Fresh sardines and squid.
*Fresh home made Moussaka.
*Pastitsada – a traditional Corfiot dish.
Manthos Taverna – Fish taverna.
**Manthos Taverna was one of the first tavernas to be opened in San Stefanos and is now over 30 years old and is still run by Manthos himself who is the character of the village! You will be entertained by Manthos who is known for his exuberant personality. Taverna O’Manthos is situated on the way to the old harbor (opposite Nafsica Hotel) and boasts fantastic sea views. It’s a very traditional taverna and holds a Greek themed evening every Saturday where you can enjoy your delicious meal surrounded by Greek music and dancers in their national costume. Fish specials change daily depending on the catch of the day, but you can expect to see the following within the menu;*Selections of freshly caught fish and sea food.
*Rabbit in tomato sauce with shallots.
*Beef fillet Metaxa.
Summer Dreams.
**Summer Dreams is located within its own garden area, filled with flowers and palm trees for a real holiday feel. The restaurant is situated at the quieter end of San Stefanos, on the road to the beach so you can relax and enjoy your evening in peace. It is also open for breakfast and lunch, so great if you’re heading to the beach on an empty stomach! It’s run by the Kefallinos family who will welcome you and make you feel right at home. The restaurant offers a mix of home cooked traditional Greek cuisine all prepared from scratch by Maria, as well as international dishes so there truly is something to suit everyone. The friendly atmosphere and delicious home cooking make for a great evening for couples and families to enjoy. You can expect to see most of the Greek favorites on the menu such as;*Seasoned beef steaks and pork chops.
*Sofrito – slices of tender veal in a garlic sauce with onions, herbs and wine.
*Lamb kleftiko – succulent lamb slow roasted together with potatoes and herbs.
Olympia.
**Olympia restaurant is situated just out of the center of San Stefanos, towards the quieter end of town. It is owned by Stelios who will welcome you and his brother Vassilis who does all the cooking. It’s a high standard Greek restaurant offering a wide selection of local dishes. Olympia is ideal if you are looking for an extra special treat with quality food among a lovely atmosphere. There is a specials board outside that is updated daily and usually offers a two course meal (starter and main course) for a very reasonable set price. Olympia is also open for lunch and has a beautiful sun terrace where you can enjoy your afternoon. As well as the usual favorites you can also expect to find within the menu;*Selections of salads, i.e. Caesar salad.
Little Prince.
**The Little Prince is ideally located 50m from the center of San Stefanos and 5minutes walk from the beach. It has an elevated sun terrace and pool area that is ideal for families and offers snacks in the daytime. It’s classed as a 3*plus hotel that offers nightly Greek dancing with fire and other tricks in its popular restaurant performed by the waiters. Little Prince is known for its welcoming atmosphere and fantastic service, adding a personal touch as they never forget a face.Zorbas – Traditional Greek cuisine.
**Zorbas is situated on the main street of San Stefanos, opposite the Thomas Bay Hotel. It boasts a traditional home cooked Greek menu that you can enjoy by candle light under the stars or inside. The mood is set with Greek music playing in the background and they put on a show every night where they turn down the lights and the floor is set alight as the waiters show off their traditional dancing skills. Pavlos, the owner, even joins in with the dancing, lifting tables with his mouth! The specials board outside is updated daily with selections such as;*Kokinisto – Pieces of beef tenderly cooked in red wine and tomato sauce served with roast potatoes, chips or boiled rice.
*Beef Tsiganiko – pieces of beef cooked in red wine sauce and baked in the oven with aubergine topped with feta cheese served with roast potatoes, chips or boiled rice.
2Stars.
**This quaint restaurant is situated just past the top of the main street in San Stefanos. Its welcoming atmosphere will call to you, or if not the two canaries hanging by the entrance will! 2Stars is a Greek style restaurant serving up both traditional and international cuisine. You’ll find all your favorite Greek dishes including Moussaka, Stifado and also daily specials.Yiannis Grill.
**Yiannis Grill is a friendly family owned restaurant run by the young son, Yiannis offering a wide selection of grilled dishes. It’s situated just off the main strip of San Stefanos, on the Arillas road. Yiannis Grill is popular with the locals here too, and that’s a sure sign of good quality food. They also offer traditional casserole dishes such as Stifado and Sofrito, all home cooked by the mother.Barras.
**Barras is located at the main cross road to the harbor and Arillas in San Stefanos. It has a beautiful fountain decorating the outside seating area and is popular among couples and families. The cheerful atmosphere is created by George and his two sons Dimitris and Spiros. They offer traditional Greek cuisine perfected over the last 20 years. Keep a look out for the daily specials outside.Olive Press.
**The Olive Press is situated in the quieter area of San Stefanos, on the road to the harbor and is another of San Stefanos’ family run businesses. It offers a selection within the menu, including Greek dishes and international cuisine to suit all tastes. All the food is freshly prepared and cooked on the day. The Olive Press is known for its fresh meat dishes and you can expect to see;*Seasoned lamb roasted or cooked by spit.
*Roast chicken.
*Pork roll stuffed with apricots and herbs.
All of the above are usually served with rosemary roast potatoes, chips or rice.
Romanza Hotel.
**Situated at the top of San Stefanos, The Romanza Hotel welcomes non resident diners to come and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Diapontia islands as the sun sets behind them. It is a family run business and offers a selection of dishes in the restaurant, all home made by the mother. The restaurant its self is run by the son, Andreas who will ensure you will have a pleasant evening.Google Search this site and forum
