San Stefanos news and views / What was it like in 2022?
« on: November 27, 2022, 01:07:40 PM »
We were very lucky to have a couple of stays in the village - one in July which was to take in a landmark birthday and the other in August which was a Covid rollover.

The week in July was very much on the breezy side with one day quite showery. However, it was great to be back again and still thoroughly enjoyable as always.

August's three weeks were again on the breezy side for a few days but still quite hot as is usually the case at that time of season.

The place was relatively busy but not bulging at the seams as many of the bars and restaurants appeared on the quiet side in the week before filing up a bit more at the weekends.

As for prices it seemed like food in the shops or when eating out was around 10-20% higher than our last visit but alcohol prices remained about the same or with just a fractional rise in some outlets.

From an independent point of view the dilemma is even more difficult this time.

But it looks like prices for flights are at least 25% higher than last year as things stand.

San Stefanos news and views / And another one....?

The Jet2 takeover of San Stefanos looks set to continue as the word on the street is that Barras is going with them for next year.

Anyone else heard that?

The clock, as they say, is ticking and it will soon be the new season

It's been done before but which are the best restaurants in San Stefanos ?

Of course it's all down to opinion, but here goes anyway

Our first port of call has always been Yiannis Grill and Restaurant on the Arillas road just before Town Pizza.

If there is better prepared food or better value in the village I have missed it.

There is always the warmest of welcomes and what's on offer is very competitively priced.

Second in is Manthos on the road heading to the harbour which is pretty basic but has a very traditional feel (at least, the that was the case when Manthos was in charge but he retired in the autumn - so it we will have to wait and see how things are under the new banner).

Anybody with slightly deeper pockets should give Delfino Blu a try as it's hard to fault what is usually on offer and everything is served very professionally and with a smile.

Yes, as I have already alluded to the fact that it is a bit more expensive than the other eateries but 'you pays your money and you takes your choice'!

A couple of years ago Fantasea would have made the cut but I must admit to being a bit disappointed on our only visit last summer. Perhaps it was just an off night and will probably give the place another chance as it has been good in the past.

Others worth a mention Waves (good service), Beachcomber (also good service) and if you just want a snack earlier in the evening try the Havana Bar

San Stefanos news and views / Beer we go again! Alfa, Fix or Mythos?
« on: January 25, 2019, 02:38:44 AM »
When I first visited Corfu I have to admit it was always a Mythos after a scorcher on the beach and that lasted a number of years.

But recently I have detected that particular beer has gone downhill and I now prefer Fix or Alfa.

Anybody else have the same opinion or am I on my own in the drinking stakes?

San Stefanos news and views / End of term report - Summer 2018

Once again we enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable break at our favourite destination.

It really is hard to beat SS as the long beach, great weather (in the main) along with superb food and drink make the place something special.

Sometimes it is hard to figure why it is not busier than usual in August (but I am not moaning, that's for certain, as the balance is about right).

Made couple of usual trips to Panorama Resturant at Logas Beach at Peroulades as the mussels in white wine sauce are very good. Must admit on second occasion  was a bit disappointed but they were very busy so perhaps it was forgivable.

Anybody who has not visited Afionas should put the place on the must-do list next time as it's a memorable village to visit and the meals at Porto Timoni were very good and the view breathtaking. Ok the wasps are a bit of a pain but the breathtaking panoramic views easily make up for that.

San Stefanos news and views / Let's make a concerted effort
« on: November 22, 2018, 01:03:34 PM »
When I first visited this site shortly after my first holiday in San Stefanos many years ago, it seemed to be thriving and full of vibrant opinions.
But of late it has become hardly used for days at a time which really is a great shame.
So the time has come to breathe some new life into the place.
I am not normally a regular on these types of sites but am going to make this one the exception to the rule through the winter months and into the spring and summer!
