Hippopots.
« on: February 16, 2021, 11:36:12 AM »
Social media reports that Hippopots is no more  :'( :'( :'(.  Jackie has announced that the shop is not now viable due to Brexit regulations, import export taxes etc, how very sad. A beautiful place to purchase her ceramics, we have many scattered around our home. I for one, would like to wish them all the very best for the future, and hope to meet up with them at some point in the future.

If its not one thing, its your mother.

Sad news indeed. Used to love pottering round the shop (no pun intended). I suppose Brexit on top of the pandemic was just the final straw. Good luck Jackie and Pete. We’ll miss the 3 Ws quizzes too!

I've got a big collection of frogs from Hippopots. Jackie and Pete (and Bod) are lovely.

I remember telling Pete a long time ago that Brexit could cause a lot of problems for them because they sourced all their blanks in the UK. He said "I think we'll be fine." Alas, this has turned out not to be true.

They used to buy all their blanks in the UK and transport them via road to Corfu in their large van.

That's right. A long drive to Brindisi and then the ferry.

Does anybody know if they are staying in Corfu?

It's very sad that Pete, Jackie and Bod's business is another victim of Brexit bureaucracy. They did say that they were staying on the island at least until the quarantining business was finished. It's such a pity that their shop had gone from strength to strength and was becoming known worldwide. I hope they are able to start something that doesn't involve importing stuff from the UK and all its involved paperwork but in the meantime I hope that Pete can still do his quiz nights this season. Looking forward to (hopefully) seeing them in July
