Hi Bevmandy we are also staying at the olga from sept 4th for 2 weeks. We stayed there last year and they are typical greek apts, basic but clean and comfortable. The family and staff are very nice and helpful. There is a poolside bar which serves light meals and snacks aswell your drinks. It's not busy as it is only a small complex. We enjoyed our stay there hence our return visit. It is only a short walk to the bars and tavernas of San Stef ( a couple of minutes).I am sure you will enjoy, where are you flying from we are from leeds/bradford

We also stayed there a few years back on a second visit in a year for a week, nice Apts and not too much of a strain up a little bit of hill.
Check out Teresa's just above on their greek night - good night out and good food.

Hi,
we have been staying at the Olga for the last 9 years and love it.
The family are wonderful from Aristoula, Yanis, Pavlos and Olga (not forgetting Shirley who runs the bar in the eveniings)
The rooms are basic, but very very clean. Great snacks and great pool.
We are due back again in August for 2 weeks and counting down the days.

Hello we stayed at the olga last september and had a 2 bed apartment, if memory serves me correctly there is plenty of cutlery and crockery. there is only a little 2 ring hob and there was no preparation area, there was a few pots but it depends on what you are aiming to cook but to be honest the prices are very good in the tavernas, especially if you keep to the set menu boards. Im sure that someone else on here will be able to give you ideas on prices etc  i hope this helps you

I have to agree with Mrswoman they are equipped enough to make a snack but anything more I'd forget about it and eat out.Reports on previous threads are that costs to eat out are between 7 & 10 euros on average

We have just returned from 2 weeks in SS, and went with the intention of having a few meals in the apartment (my boyfriend is a great cook)  :). We soon realised that it was cheaper to eat out and as the food was so yummy we ate out every day  ;D

Tend to only use the self catering facilities for brekky n a cuppa n the fridge for keeping drinks cold.

Giros (yeeros) pitta from Yiannis (opp Athens Bar) or Tasty Corner is a substantial snack for about €1.50 n also both do chicken on the spit with chips for €5, maybe less.
 10 days!!!! 8)

Welcome to the forums Bunnikins. Glad you tried the tavernas in the village. The food at each one is lovely and you would find it difficult to cook the same in a small apartment.

Bevmandy

we just reurned from our 2nd fornight there on last Fri (24/7)

The apartments are well look after by Aristoula who runs the place during the day and then hands over to Shirley who runs the pool bar from 1700 to midnight.

We think they are great - clean, tidy, not to far from village centre (5mins stroll) and a short walk tot he steps to the beach.

Great value and seems to have a lot of returning holiday makers.

Pool is cleaned everynight by her dad- all in all it's very good.

Hope this helps

regards

Returned last week and we had to throw away our boys shorts as it would not come out.
Also the ool is not in the best kept condition either. They don't seem to be spending much time on cleaning the main pool, the toddler pool has the green ring from last year still round the edge.

We prefered the tereza pool.

This is like Deja Vous!!

Deja Vu, yes NY re-joined Stills...any buff Springfield fans here? 4 way street is a terrefic live album, saw CSNY The Band and JM at Wembley Stadium in Sept 73,think our bus floated home ha ha, woke up with an exploding head...then they split, and we started getting stuff like C&N doing "wind on the water", NY became bigger than any of them , Stills just got big, and Nash discovered how average a songwriter he was...but Deja Vu is a brilliant piece

It seems we may have offended people with our comments on the green issue of the pool and the lack of cleaning.
If this is the case I can only apologise the those who are offended by a true comment. Friendship aside when you pay £3000 for a holiday (I know the vast majority of that goes to the tour operator and not the owner) but you do not expect to find a lack of enthusiasm by people who are responsible for the upkeep of the properties/pools, no matter where they are.

Now in our first years of visiting the pool would be cleaned every single night and this was then followed up by a second clean in the morning. This then became the job of the "pool robot" at night time, the kids loved to watch it scan the base of the pool doing its job. Again this was done on a regular basis.

This year we saw the robot twice in 2 weeks. I think, on oe accasion it had been switched off by mistake half way through its job, so never completed the job. There was not as I am aware any cleaning done in the mornings, so as we stated above the lack of enthusiasm seems to have shown in the up keep of the pool.
Again this was not written to upset or blame, but to highlight the fact of the amount of Green obtained from the pool.
We all know this can happen in all pools, but some seem to be worse than others for this happening.

You know who you are and we are sorry if you have taken this to heart.
Ian and Sarah

You do not have to apologise.
Even if many on this forum are in love with San Stef, and we loved it when we visited in June and will be back next year, this is 2009 and anyone should expect the pool to be cleaned everyday, no matter which country we are visiting.

Ianandsarah - Speak as you find - no need to apologise at all - good report in fact! I don't think anyone will be upset in reality!
you are being honest and it may help others! It would really help the owners in any property if they are made aware of problems as well.
Hope it doesn't put you off going again! Try somewhere else next time, you will be friends of any family where-ever you stay!
Yamas!!

Hi Tony,
thanks for that.
It cold never put us off going to san stef, we love the place and the people. Our kids adore the pplace as they can wander off to a bar with no worries.

We have been talking for the last 3 years about staying elsewhere, even going private but for some reason have stayed loyal to the family as we have kown them so long. On saying that we have known others in san stef longer..........

We'll be back (in good old arnie voice)

The pool at Teresa was much better the second week. On our first week people were putting sun lotion on themselves actually in the pool as well which obviously does not help.
Having said all this someone Roy knows went to Turkey and they were letting children do number 2s in the pool . Disgusting. Didn't mind being green after hearing this.

Having just returned from the Olga I feel I must reply to Ian & Sarahs comments about the pool. We found the pool to be in a good condition and we saw it cleaned every morning while having our morning cuppa on the balcony. Also the family were cleaning while we were on our way out in the evening on a few occasions. Any green tinge on our cossies have come off in the wash at home and are now ready for next year.So to anybody going to the Olga in the next few days/weeks I would say don,t worry and enjoy yourselves.

We stayed at the Olga for 2 weeks in July and have just returned from our second visit this year on 25th Sept. This was our 14th visit to The Olga and 15th to San Stefanos. The fact we have been so many times speaks for itself! We are obviously not the only people to feel this way as when we arrived The Olga was full with return visitors who we have met on previous visits. It was a lovely reunion and great to see so many friends again, including Maureen & Keith and Hazel & Ann. We have been completely captivated by the 'magic' of the place and have already booked to return in June & Sept 2010.
Aristoula & her family do their utmost to make everyone feel welcome.
The apartments/studios are typically Greek. The bedding/mattresses are immaculate and the sheets are changed regularly as are the towels. The rooms are cleaned daily and bathroom/kitchen bins emptied every day. All the kitchens have adequate crockery, cutlery & cooking utensils.
The pool and surrounding area is beautiful. The pool IS cleaned EVERY night by Demos, sometimes as late as 11.00pm to midnight. Then again in the morning by Aristoula. At times there are lots of friendly faces around the pool, at others one can feel as if you are lying by your own private pool but there is never a shortage of sunbeds & umbrellas.
The bar/snack area is very pleasant. During the day Aristoula is there to provide breakfasts and light meals which are freshly cooked and delicious. In the evening either Shirley or Aristoula's husband Yannis are there to cater to guests requirments until the early hours.
The location of The Olga is very convenient as it is near to supermarkets, restaurants and the lovely beach.
We thoroughly recommend The Olga to couples, young and old and to families.
We are already counting the days until June.
 See you there!

Thompsons still does them, go to the Thompson Holidays web site, put in your date with a friday departure,
choose greece, Corfu, resort = San Stefanos, then chose the accommodation and you will see Olga on the drop down list,
then try fiddling with the date if a Friday is no good!!

I think this is something Thomsons do from time to get other properties sold as well. If you keep trying they will eventually come up with Olga again.

We too have been unable to book or check prices on line for the Olga .We had to go to the Thomson travel agency and even the girl there had a problem but did manage to book eventually. The Olga is in the Thomson JUST brochure. Hope this helps.

Yes - too expensive - you can get half board in the Athina for that.

Sunshine - this appears to be part of a trend with Thomson and San Stef. They are becoming very 'dominant' in San Stef and are obviously 'controlling' the prices. On another thread i've just given the info that The Little Prince is handing over ALL bookings to Thomson from 2010, previously they were with Thomson + some private bookings.

It wouldn't surprise me if the normal 'discount' periods/offers of late October, early Jan that Thomson usually offer do not appear this time around.

We thought the same about price for the olga, we will probably go independent but have got to wait for easy jet to come up with prices for August and have heard that won,t be untill december, does anybody know if thats right as usually like to book as soon as we get home and have already been home 3 weeks

Ejet usually release summer flights in about early Nov. But, of course this year they released April, May and June 2010 'early' - was it end July roughly?

Will they release July, Aug and Sept 2010 soon or not until late Nov? Who knows?

I reckon they released the first 'half' of Summer 2010 early to get some cashflow into the co. I will be checking Ejet for Sept 2010 everyday now, as i need to book our flights from BTL to Faro.

£1228 is very very expensive for self catering. Our 2 weeks at Teresa end of August next year is over £400.00 cheaper than that.

You booked very early though Jules. The price at Terezas for June, as an example, has gone up from about £800 total for 2 weeks for two, to about £1100 now. Even their Sept 2010 prices which were showing about £750 for 2 has gone up to about £900 for early part of Sept.

The cheapest i could find for June next year in San Stef, as a package deal, thru' Thomsons was staying at Barras; that was about £900 i think for 2 people staying 14 nights.

This year 2 weeks self catering at Kapitanios cost us £1800.00 that was for 3 adults and a child, one of the adult prices was our 17 year old son, our other son got a free child place, but we all know that his fare would be coverd by the 'other' charges you incur

This year with all the extra's and return flight, Easyjet cost us about £143 each,
I then paid €220 per week for Theodosia Apts. plus the transfer by mini bus.
Worked out well but then because the Pound was so bad, our spending was about £3-400 more this time!
Bristol Boy, time will tell, but I cannot believe that Thompsons will NOT do a sale this year.
It's a company wide offer on world wide holidays and is the core part of their Marketing Strategy.
Agreed that they may well manipulate prices up a touch, before the sale, but you will get it cheaper, or they will lose sales overall.
At this time of the year 2010 European sales are always really slow, so the strategy is to hike up the prices now then drop them on special 4-day weekend sales.
All the other big operators tend to do the same! Right now it's almost as cheap to go to some long haul destinations! (Goa for example).
The big problem is the Government Air Travel Tax, which has hit us all - - - -Thanks Gordon!!!

I have some shares in T U I (amongst others) and help to run our shares club at work.
We always read their company reports, (available on the internet) -
in fact I have followed various companies Marketing Strategies since doing my Thesis in Uni!!
It can give you an insight to making a few bob on the shares - here is a good site to check out Thompsons! (TUI).

Tony, you may or may not have gathered from some posts i contributed on the forum a few months ago, but i'm in a job which requires analysis of certain companies and finance, and i'm almost convinced that as Thomson's control more of a resort's holiday accommodation they can 'manipulate' prices to their advantage.

I've just got a feeling that Thomson may 'exclude' San Stef from their price promotions that may come over the next few months. As Zimmer said on another thread this afternoon, San Stef has a lot of repeat visitors from the UK so they can keep prices high. And as they dictate to the 'Thomson property' owners in San Stef the terms of any contract, the owners have very little say in the matter.

I hope i'm proved wrong for the sake of some on here who are playing a 'waiting game'. I've opted for the Ejet + private booking option now, because the Ejet flights from BTL to Corfu started to increase over the last 2 weeks and i'm a bit of a fussy so-and-so about accommodation i stay in, so i like to book early and know where i'm staying.

Even though we haven't chosen Terezas for 2010 (we stayed there this June) due to Portland's current prices, i'll be interested to see if it features in any price promos over next few months, as i reckon June 2010, for example, is near fully booked. We booked it in October 08 for the June 09 stay and 14 nights cost about £850 total; at the mo it's £1100 for June 2010. Will that price drop in any promo during Oct/Nov. I'll be watching! Even though it'll be too late for 2010.

We have booked 'The Mythos' apartments at the end of June - 2 weeks - £750.00 with Thomas Cook.  We found this a lot cheaper than any thomson holiday and even booking independently. Easy Jet flights from Manchester are still not that cheap.
Title: Re: Olga apartments
Post by: hendrix46 on September 30, 2009, 01:30:53 PM
Dale and John, that's a good price. Unfortunately, as I'm a lone traveller, if I try booking on-line I get the "computer says no" (thanks Little Britain) option. If I go to the travel agents then I get hit with the rip-off single supplement and under occupancy charges from the T Os. This leaves me with the independant option. I much prefer this as I'd sooner put my money into the local economy than into the T Os grasping hands. The T Os make enough money out of me for the flights. Now that Easyjet and Jet2 are flying going to Corfu even the prices of flights are a bit steadier.
Anyways, don't forget the World Cup kicks off on the 11th June so there could be some bargains about. No bargains in July as England will be out and everyone'll want to go away on holiday! Also, can't see the pound making a spectacular recovery so prices'll have to come down.

Oh well - everyone has an opinion - which ever way you go - it will still be a bit of a gamble,
we'll see who made the right move by the new year!
Dale and John - - - was that the total for two persons for two weeks? - if so - good price!
(also meant to ask - did anyone ever find a short-cut straight, from the Mythos through to the main street near the Athens Bar?).

I can't see 'all' the regulars returning if they price the resort too high, everyone has a limit!
I will stick with my theories, and see how it goes! If I am wrong - so be it - but I have played it right every year so far!
Still loads of private apartments around and EasyJet - if Thompsons' are too expensive - good fall back!!
I won't be blackmailed by Thompsons into paying silly money!
I'll wait and see! This situation has happened in the past before in S S, and it'll come back again some day -
it always seems to go round in a circle!

Good luck to everyone - - whichever way you decide to go!
See you in 2010. (Hopefully I will have the cheaper Holiday!! LOL).

Tony, yes that is the price for 2 people, flying from Manchester on a Monday morning. The best price that we could fine for June next year.
We ae sue there is short cut - which brings you around the Rose Gardens, not tried it yet though.
Does anyone know how Nondas Is?  When we left in September he was just going back to Athens for a pacemaker fitting.
Thanks

Thomas Cook and TUI reported in last 24 hours that demand and 2010 bookings, at this stage, for next year is up on same time last year. They reckon that after this summer's very average weather in UK the 2009 'staycation' may not be so in evidence next year.

Prices to remain high; limited promos over next few months, maybe?

Och well, at least you have a choice of airlines. From Scotland next year cheapest flights in July are £870 for family of three.

Hopefully the English will be mesmerised by the World Cup in South Africa leaving lots of bargains for us canny Scots to pick up in San Stef.

The English can have the World Cup....... We Scots, Welsh and Irish can have that brilliant film "OUT OF AFRICA."

On a serious note Peli & Maria have actually dropped their prices for 2010! Worth a consideration!! Their prices also INCLUDE airport transfers next year too !!

Has anyone had any problems with lizards in the Olga? stayed there last year and they decided to visit us (ground floor) agree the staff are good, but then haven't come across any unfriendly or unhelpful people in Sanstef. Back to the lizards decided to try higher floors and stayed at top floor at Stamatis and lo and behold some peculiar lizard type thing decided to lodge itself above my bed as I was reading at bedtime.Thank God for a  son in law who came to my rescue. But they won't put me off, though I don't know what I would do if I was alone there as I have been twice!! I think that says a lot for the place where a woman in her seventies can feel safe enough to wander around at night even.
