advice for first visit
« on: August 20, 2010, 02:33:51 AM »
Arriving on 27th August for 10 days staying at Thomas Bay, could anyone advise if there are a kettle and hairdyer  in the room
Also how reliable is the ATM so we can just take our card rather than cash/traveller cheques.
Have looked on here a few time but first time posting and picked up helpful info on where to eat have a drink be entertained etc and really looking forward to our stay but any other help for a first time visiter to Corfu and San Stef ie best trips etc would be helpful
Really enjoyed the link to 360degree tour.

thanks in advance for replies
Janet

Hi skiingemu and welcome to the site. The ATM is not reliable I'm afraid. We have never had to use it ourselves but each year we see countless postings about the fact there is no money in the machine or it is broken. The nearest machine is in Avliotes village.

We have jus returned from SS and my sister took her card out to use in ATM - for first 2 days it was empty but by the Monday it had been filled up and was full for over a week and my sis could withdraw money. However, would firstly advise yr bank u are going away as the card may reject (it doesn't keep the card, just rejects it) and also there are some cards that it does not take - barclaycard and Halifax visa debit cards seemed ok tho.

Even tho Thomas Bay has nothing to do with the ATM we were given some info from Irene on reception (prob as she had to find out for Thomas Bay residents) and she was able to tell us that she had spoken with ATM people and they were filling up that day - which they did.

But wouldn't rely totally on it

JULES _ TOO LATE!!!! LOL

Hi skiingemu
Welcome from us as well, we last stayed at the Thomas Bay the year before last.
Unless they have upgraded since, there is no fridge in the room,
can someone who stayed there this year - lease confirm!!
This is because they like to sell you their coffee/tea / cold water etc
this was my only complaint - because otherwise it's a great Hotel and we are staying there from 30th August this year.
It would be nice to say hello, so please ask Nikos behind the Bar (Bar Manager) or his wife Heather to point out Tony and Linda
as we have known them for many years.
You will have a great time - best to take a travel kettle and powder milk otherwise.
Happy Days in Agios Stefanos, Avliotes, Corfu!! TonyCo1
