Find it a bit difficult to put The Corfu beers into a category we would recognise. They do a straightforward lager, the ales are dark and light and the answer is...... Try them

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Smoking while dining Alfresco ?

I'm not sure the original question was about health being damaged by passive smoking, it was whether a non smoker should have to put up with smoke around them whilst eating.
I cannot see why they should have to, if you want a smoke have the common decency not to do it in an area where others are eating. Clearly smoking near diners will not be a pleasant experience for them, why should they have to tolerate it?
Oh, I'm not a non smoking storm trooper, just a smoker who goes to the bar or away from diners for his after dinner smoke.

2. Little Prince
3. Tasty Corner, for an excellent cheap and cheerful gyros.

Information and help please / Re: Thomson's Baggage Allowance
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:02:01 PM »
We had booked this years August trip back in August 2011, and at the time of booking noticed it was 15kgs. As there are four of us and we only usually take 3 cases, we thought that would be okay, which it was.... Just.
However whilst keeping an eye on the prices over the following months  ( to ensure booking early had been the right thing to do) the allowance had gone back up to 20kgs.
Looks like it's something Thomsons is doing when they discount the overall holiday cost, as Jim says another way for Thomsons to up the final cost alongwith paying to reserve the seat you have already paid for!

Returned on Monday from 2 weeks at the Romanza, where we met George and Lesley (Waspman) and Kevin and Debbie (Sellsy) who were great company. I can only concur with Sellsy, the staff provide a fantastic service to all their guests. Despite the high standard of food in the village restaurants, in our opinion Katies cooking at the Romanza restaurant takes some beating.
Beach was great as usual, the area with sunbeds has extended beyond Thomas's boats making it ideal for those of us who use the cliff path from the Romanza to access the beach. Good to see there are some more bins on the beach this year. We took Thomas's speedboat out on our wedding anniversary, which was a great way to spend the day and had an equally enjoyable evening at the Romanza.
Gavlah - think you should know that Kev developed his Y-front activities this year! The result was that Stella and Marina on reception were inundated with guests handing in y fronts they had found on their balconies. Fortunately Deb (having learnt from previous years) had had the foresight to sew Kevs name into them, so it became a daily event to see Marina wandering around clutching a pair of pants looking for Kev. He would then exclaim his bewilderment and claim they had been blown from his own balcony by the strong winds. He would maintain this even on days when there was barely a breeze!
I understand only one pair was never returned, I suspect the rather stylish Italian guest couldn't resist adding a pair of M and S finest to complement his Armanis, and decided to keep a pair.
Anyway a great holiday and will be booking again for next year, but may well book independantly unless Thomsons prices drop.

FairFX 1.25 today, is FSA protected and can use debit card to pay avoiding charges, free delivery over £750.
As Jimbo stated earlier many banks no longer charging for currency purchases with a debit card. I have just checked with First Direct who have confirmed there is no charge. Have been playing the waiting game, but now tempted. The million dollar question will it keep on rising?

Tony, you wont be disappointed with the Romanza food. We do about half of our evenings there as we stay there and the other half have tried most of the restaurants and tavernas in the village. To be honest though Katies cooking at the Romanza takes some beating. Great views whilst eating.

Greek night on a Sunday at Romanza Hotel, two older Greek gentleman play live Greek music all evening.
Then you get improptu dancing from some of the locals who always seem to attend this evening.
Oh and the food and views are amazing, well worth the walk up the hill.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Question - Boat Hire
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:55:11 PM »
Hi Alan, Paleo can be done easily in a day. Though we did have a larger engine than the 10hp one.
Two years ago we used Thomas boat hire from the beach, he has a very comfortable ( leather seats ) speedboat. We had it for the day and managed a trip over between the islands, stopped at St Georges for lunch and went down to paleo.
The sea can be choppy at san stef, but once out the bay and round the headland can then be calm. Thomas will be honest with you about the sea conditions, I think it was the third day we finally got out so plan it early to give you time to reschedule if necessary owing to sea conditions.
It was a great day out and highly recommended, would suggest checking prices between San Stef travel and Thomas. Check whether fuel is included, if not allow for this, high fuel costs make a difference.
Regards Brian
