Title: what's not opening this season
Post by: christina of ouzo power on July 06, 2020, 10:23:17 PM
We've heard that Athens Bar and Thomas Bay are not opening this season.
Does anybody know of any other bars, restaurants or accommodation that isn't opening this season.
Staying at Romanza but visit lots of lovely restaurants when we come.

I believe Nafsika isn't opening this year, apart from the bar, from time to to time.

Oh, now I'm getting nervous! We booked 10 days (never been more than 7 before) for the back end of September and now wondering if it will be just us!

Just found out from a very reliable in resort source that the Rose Garden is not opening this year. Tui in the last few days have taken balances from us and other members of our family for mid September bookings. Surely this virtually paramounts to fraud. We now will probably have to fight to get our money back

Sorry to hear that ironman, with hindsight it was probably always risk, but hopefully your post warns us all of that and other possibilities. My brother has 3 holidays cancelled this year, luckily he’s not too bothered and has just rebooked for next year.

Hi
Mike from Romanza is aiming for 31st July opening

Have you spoke directly with him?

Unless anything changes between now and then - Vicky's is open from 15/07 as this is when I will be back on reception to welcome our first UK guests. However we cannot offer our Book Swap or Book Library due to new Protocols so everyone should bring their Kindles or if bringing books you can not swap them for another as our Library shelves will not be stocked this Summer.

Ooh never thought of that-thanks for the heads up Lesley, we'll make sure we bring our own!

If you don't want to carry your books once you have read them back to the UK you can leave them on reception and I will then keep them (after sanatising) for others to use 'hopefully' next Summer instead.......

Will do-totally off topic but we are having a new bed next week and there are dozens of books shoved under my current bed that I need to find a home for (new bed is an ottoman one and I don't want to fill the base with books and kill it!!)

Emailed Mike.
Does anyone know if Kostas and Helen are still at the Romanza and if they are well.
Haven't been able to go on holiday for a few years and miss them very much.
They're lovely people, as are everyone I've met in San Stef.

Hobbes, the charity shops are gradually reopening. Having said that, the one we normally donate to has a recorded message saying they have been absolutely inundated and could we hold onto the items until next week! We’ve got bags full of stuff, as sadly had to clear out my mother in law’s home after she passed away at the end of May.

I'm still a bit confused.  This thread is about what's not opening.  Is there any confirmation of tavernas and pubs not opening or is everyone speculating?
My wife and I are going for two weeks in September and I'm hoping most places are open.    ???

Good thinking Trevor! Rod I think most of the info on here must be true, as some are in touch with locals. I think it's a wait and see. Hopefully people will keep us updated, when they get there

Hi I have been told by someone who lives and works in the resort that most places are open and more opening daily the only ones not opening are the ones already mentioned on here.
The main street will be strange with the Thomas Bay closed   :(

I can half understand the hotel closing as a hotel (cruise ships etc) but you would think it could still operate as a pub/taverna venue.

Most of Nafsika's clientele are residents. I'm not sure random "walk-ins" would be enough to sustain the kitchen and waiting staff.

During our 20 years of holidays in the resort we always ate in Nafsika regularly that is until a couple of years ago.Very attentive when we arrived with orders for food and drink unfortunately both times the meal took over an hour to arrive because " The Residents " were priority.Needless to say we never went again. So they wouldn't get random walk ins now as others had the same experience.

A couple of years ago Spiros had new staff and in my opinion, the service was bad, so we stopped going. However, last year was back to normal and I had no complaints. We don't eat until late, so not many residents there. The food was superb and the staff very attentive.

I think it's worth another try, Gill. We did have issues too, that year, but we love the food and the old part of the village, it's much quieter than the main strip, when you're having a meal :)

After a 13 year absence from AS, last year on our return we found the Nafsika had changed very little and the food was very good. In a previous incarnation (prior visits 93-06 with kids!) we always ate there at least a couple of times in the holiday. However we did think it was very quiet and wondered how they survived. Then again there, as said by many on here, there are so many good places to eat. Even in that small area of the old part there is another 3-4 we would eat at.

Karen is right. There was a bad patch after all the previous staff left or were sacked. It took the new chef a while to get up to speed. Last year the food was excellent, as was the service. When it's open again, please go. Note: residents' service is 19:00 to 21:00 - so going at about half-nine is a good tactic.
