Where to stay / Re: Towel mafia at Romanza....
« on: August 14, 2014, 11:58:53 PM »
My daughter had a meal at the Romanza last year and felt very uncomfortable when a returnee! clicked his finger at Andreas and wantd to book a table for the following evening but wanted that table, pointing at the table my daughter and her boyfriend were sat on.  She felt quite embarassed.

One thing for sure Laurenandsam, whether they were regulars or not, they will not have endeared themselves to Andreas by clicking their finger at him...... He would have been bristling inside!

Fantasea last year was very good and makes it into my top three of 2013:
1. Romanza
2. Fantasea
3. Tasty Corner ( for cheap and cheerful )

Tried the new med village, but was not impressed with food, though service was friendly.

Out and About / Re: Calculating spending money

To give you an idea of prices at Romanza and everywhere is similar.
Beer €2.50
Soft drink 2
Frappe 2
Large carafe of wine 9
Cocktails 4 to 5
Lunch time you will be able to feed both of you for 15-20 euros, less if you select carefully.
Evening meal starters vary from 4 to 6, puds about the same.
Main courses 7 to 15, but most around 8/9.

Cheap lunch on the beach? Buy fruit and donuts, drinks from one of the supermarkets for a few euros. DO NOT BUY FROM THE RIP OFF DONUT MAN WHO SOMETIMES STALKS THE BEACH!

Most places do a nightly special of two or three courses for 9 euros ish.
Romanza special tends to be a deal on a main and a glass of wine.
Cards are accepted at most places if you dont want to take it all in cash. As the cash runs low towards  the end of hol i use card to pay for main meals at Romanza.

Out and About / Re: Introduction

Hello Buttons1,
The Romanza is still a wonderful hotel, and still owned by Mike and Eleni. The restaurant and bar is now ran by Katie, Leo and their son Andreas. You will find Katies food to be up there with the best in the village.
I am sure someone else will be able to comment on the changes since 2003, but its still a wonderful place.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Change of flight times - Thomson
« on: December 31, 2013, 05:27:14 AM »
We have had the same flight change, instead of departing E Mids at 1400 its now 0600. It suits us much better though as we live near the airport and getting in to San Stef about 1300 instead of late evening. Its a flight time we usually do from Bham, but booked East Mids this year with what were later flights because the cost was quite a bit lower than bham. Also means on return we get up, have breakfast and leave, none of that hanging around all day when you have packed.

You booked at the right time Jacksi, I had been price watching for months and they were at their lowest just over two weeks ago, or at least they were for the Romanza. Since then they have risen and our flight is now sold out.

Dont think Thomas has ventured to the world of websites yet!
His highest powered boat is the one with the leather type seats, very comfortable and a great way to spend a day.

Information and help please / Re: Flight or package?
« on: September 01, 2013, 06:03:29 AM »
It very much depends on the cost of the flight element with Thomsons, as the total costs with the package varies wildly. I have posted recently that the cost of our 2014 booking was £600 cheaper for four of us than it had been just 3/4 weeks earlier.
Prior to the Thomson reduction I was pricing flights from the midlands and booking direct with Romanza. The cheapest flights were Monarch from Birmingham for end of July, the price of rooms and flights was £2915 as flights were still expensive, plus getting a transfer sorted.
We booked via Thomson for £2371. Its a no brainer!
Ref the Thomson domination of the resort, they want to fill the rooms they are paying the owner for. This must be of benefit to the hotels ref food and drink and the other businesses in the village. Otherwise they may have lots of empty rooms out of peak times and fewer people spending money.
Thomsons latest tactic though is reducing the length of the season, this year they are only taking guests at the Romanza until early October. They have shaved 3 to 4 weeks off the season, giving the businesses less time to make the money needed to cover the winter months.

Likewise, booked Monday after watching the prices drop. Romanza end of July £579. Over £500 less than a month ago for the four of us. We found the same flights were so expensive it was actually cheaper booking with Thomsons than independantly.

Glad to see you enjoyed both the food and view at Romanza. We didnt try many other restaurants this year owing to the great food at Romanza but had vowed to try Fantasea following the good reviews this year.
We have to agree the food was very good there and Jacksi is right the portions were huge, even though the plates were massive they were still full. My daughter had a childs meal and to be honest it was a good adult sized portion. Friendly service too, well done Fantasea. Next years restaurant to try for the first time.......Evinos I think following the positive reports recently.
