Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Best Restaurant or Taverna
« on: September 01, 2020, 02:09:31 AM »
Ok, so this is based on this years visit. Returned home today and was only there 10 nights so could not even get around all of our usual. After my comments above it will be no surprise to learn I place Manthos up there. We had lunch there most days and evening meal twice. Some tavernas/ restaurants we ate at this year we were a little disappointed with compared to previous visits, but this we put down to the particular dishes we chose. Service was as usual; friendly, warm and welcoming at all. Top four:
1 Manthos
2 Romanza restaurant, I know it’s a hell of a walk if you are not staying there ( we were) but the chefs food was outstanding. The family took over the restaurant and pool bar last year, Dad is the chef and the three sons run the front of house. Outstanding food.
3 Beachcomber
4 Yiannis family restaurant

Agree regards the Manthos waiter, rather rude last year, did not seem interested in taking our order when we visited in June, went again in September, different class, amazing service and food, with a view to die for too.

For me....

Olympia
Manthos
Athena Pool Bar for lunches
Tasty Corner..........people watching paradise  ;D

This year Manthos does not have the same waiting staff. I wouldn’t like to speculate who the waiter was you found rude last year but, Winkie and Geordieborn I would be amazed if it was Andreas who took it over last year and continues to run it this year. He has a real passion for customer service and I have never seen him rude or even indifferent, everyone welcomed with enthusiasm. He runs it and serves his mums food having moved from many years running Romanza restaurant and bar. This year owing to the uncertainty of the season he is running daytime service on his own and has a waiter, Akis, with him in the evening who I understand was at the Nafsica. He has been really busy despite the lower numbers of tourists, which is a testament to the quality of food and service. If anyone has a visit coming up then try it, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, hope Kostas is better soon.
Just like Helen to be working hard.
Hello Christina, we arrived at Romanza last night and Eleni isn’t here this year. She has stayed in Corfu town looking after Kosta.

We go tomorrow where are you staying ?
Hi, we are at Romanza where we have stayed several times before, on a bargain package with TUI, booked 4 weeks ago.
Currently sat on the terrace overlooking the islands having a brew before breakfast.
So the whole journey was the easiest we have ever known!
Obviously owing to the reduced flights. Flew from Birmingham, small queue for bag drop then a coffee at Neros before going through security, straight through there too.
Arrived at Corfu at 7.50pm just after a Cardiff TUI flight. Cases were already on the new belts when we had passed through passport control, quick check of PLF and in the the taxi for 8.30. All very smooth.
Then it was time for a draft Corfu beer and the most delicious Stifado from Aris at Romanza followed by portokalopita, orange cakey pie! Welcome to Corfu  ;D

Checked in with TUI and PLF code just arrived. All ready to go tomorrow  :)

Hello Boris,
Good to hear you and Mrs Boris are well and have some work lined up for the short season.
How has lockdown been in your wonderful Albania? Has it had a negative impact on the cocaine trade?
I understand Silly will be visiting in September, presumably with his breathing tank in case he has too many cocktails and starts dancing! No looking at his boobiedoos though.
Have a good season, will keep a look out for you at end of August and your friend the donut man.

Christina, Helen and Kostas are still there. Kostas has not been well for some time, in fact didn’t see him last year when we went up a couple of times for dinner, Helen was still working hard though. They are opening on 31st July and Helen will be there, not sure about Kostas as told last week he is not well. Brian

Having had our flight for an independent stay at the end of July cancelled some time ago, we had written off this summer and resigned ourselves to staying at home.
However, we have seen recent positive reports from the first arrivals. Then a really attractive deal came up with TUI, for 10 nights in the date range we could go. More shall we, shan’t we go. More positive reports seen.....sod it, booked and now going (hopefully) to Romanza on 21st August and will be able to have our anniversary meal at Beachcomber. That’s assuming TUI don’t cancel the flight. Brian and Amanda.

Staying at Anatoli apartments for the first time, 29th July for two weeks.
We have previously booked packages and gone independent, but independent worked out cheapest for us this year.
First time staying somewhere without a pool though.

Anatoli for us this year, 30th July for two weeks. Not stayed there before and rebooked flights with BA after the Thomas Cook collapse. We also noticed a small number of different type of clientele in resort this August, and not for the better. There was a guest at Teresa’s who was extremely rude and disrespectful to staff, was actually quite aggressive.

So many to choose from, but here goes with our must do list in no particular order, though rarely had a bad meal anywhere:
Brusko - some different items on the menu to the usual fare, excellent quality. Wife and daughter always have mussels paradise.
Beachcomber - Fabulous setting and service, again some different dishes for a change
Fantasea - Great seafood and selection of gin! Great host
Yiannis Grill - mmm Lamb on the spit or a cheeky Gyros!
Yiannis restaurant - Orange pie a must
Waves - lunchtime meze for a break from the sun
And looking forward to Manthos Taverna as I know the quality of food and service will be excellent under Andreas and Katie
There’s not a place though that doesn’t try their hardest, spoilt for choice really and 14 days never enough to fit them all in. Always come away and say there was somewhere we never got around to this year!

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Beer we go again! Alfa, Fix or Mythos?
« on: January 28, 2019, 03:35:09 AM »
Corfu Brewery Ionian Gold is my first choice, inevitably end up with Mythos at some point because it’s so widely available though. Fix if buying from shop to drink on the balcony.

yes it's true andreas and Kate from romanza will be there this year
Well if Andreas and Katie are taking it on, it will still be excellent food and service.
