San Stefanos news and views / Re: Amber and what it means ?
« on: May 08, 2021, 03:56:44 PM »
I don't think the website has been updated. We can travel for leisure, but not until May 17th.
Hi Karen, if only! The quote was taken from the page published yesterday referring to travel from 17th May onwards.
I’m sure all will become clear in fullness of time, and for all the reasons Jim has referred to we won’t be able to go on 29th May. Mostly because work means we couldn’t self isolate on return and the risk that the pre-departure test in Corfu is positive and we are not allowed to travel back to UK.
Fingers crossed end of July holiday will be on.

San Stefanos news and views / Amber and what it means ?
« on: May 08, 2021, 02:26:24 AM »
So I thought I understood after today’s announcement that Greece being amber meant no travel for leisure. Even checked the gov.uk this evening to confirm. The wording on gov.uk being ‘you should not travel to an amber list country for leisure purposes’
Oh well, as expected holiday cancelled for 29th May, couldn’t self isolate after the holiday in any case.
The holiday I should say is a flight only with BA and accommodation at Anatoli. Well Peter from Anatoli emailed me within 2 hours of the announcement to check that we would not be coming and to move it to next May.
Waiting to see if BA cancel the flight for a refund, if not we will have to cancel for a voucher as per their terms when we booked it.

BUT - then receive an email from TUI this evening saying they are flying to green and amber and specifically Corfu from 17th May, book your holiday here type thing! What the heck is going on, that is contrary to government advice for travel to amber countries. Seems like confusion reigns!

Manthos - You are correct Jimbo, Andreas has put new steps to the beach, extended the dining area out and new floor down where it was cracked and uneven. I’m sure it will all look very smart when it is finished.

I had to read this thread just to see how the items in the title were linked 😂

Well we have our fingers crossed to make at least one of our Corfu trips this year, but who knows what the situation will be. We have a week at Anatoli booked for Whit week, moved from last summers cancelled flights, which is how we came to potentially have two visits this year.  Then 2 weeks at Fedra Mare at end of July, I am more optimistic about that one than the end of May. We are in group 9 for vaccination so should have had both by July, May might be a push, what will be will be.

We went in August and cash is welcomed still. We only paid for one meal on a card towards the ends when cash funds were drying up  ;)

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Best Restaurant or Taverna

Ozzy,s is now Barolo, and is open Karen, very popular too. Two Stars, old place, I,m not sure about.
We ate in Barolo last week, usual high standards.
The old 2 stars building, between Silver Star and gift shop, was not open this year. It was called Mythos I think last year.

Road name isn’t important, Harbour Road would suit. I put Avliotes Road for Romanza. Important thing is accommodation name, Agios Stefanos Avliotes and 49081

Ok, so this is based on this years visit. Returned home today and was only there 10 nights so could not even get around all of our usual. After my comments above it will be no surprise to learn I place Manthos up there. We had lunch there most days and evening meal twice. Some tavernas/ restaurants we ate at this year we were a little disappointed with compared to previous visits, but this we put down to the particular dishes we chose. Service was as usual; friendly, warm and welcoming at all. Top four:
1 Manthos
2 Romanza restaurant, I know it’s a hell of a walk if you are not staying there ( we were) but the chefs food was outstanding. The family took over the restaurant and pool bar last year, Dad is the chef and the three sons run the front of house. Outstanding food.
3 Beachcomber
4 Yiannis family restaurant

Agree regards the Manthos waiter, rather rude last year, did not seem interested in taking our order when we visited in June, went again in September, different class, amazing service and food, with a view to die for too.

For me....

Olympia
Manthos
Athena Pool Bar for lunches
Tasty Corner..........people watching paradise  ;D

This year Manthos does not have the same waiting staff. I wouldn’t like to speculate who the waiter was you found rude last year but, Winkie and Geordieborn I would be amazed if it was Andreas who took it over last year and continues to run it this year. He has a real passion for customer service and I have never seen him rude or even indifferent, everyone welcomed with enthusiasm. He runs it and serves his mums food having moved from many years running Romanza restaurant and bar. This year owing to the uncertainty of the season he is running daytime service on his own and has a waiter, Akis, with him in the evening who I understand was at the Nafsica. He has been really busy despite the lower numbers of tourists, which is a testament to the quality of food and service. If anyone has a visit coming up then try it, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Hi
Thanks for your reply, hope Kostas is better soon.
Just like Helen to be working hard.
Hello Christina, we arrived at Romanza last night and Eleni isn’t here this year. She has stayed in Corfu town looking after Kosta.

We go tomorrow where are you staying ?
Hi, we are at Romanza where we have stayed several times before, on a bargain package with TUI, booked 4 weeks ago.
Currently sat on the terrace overlooking the islands having a brew before breakfast.
So the whole journey was the easiest we have ever known!
Obviously owing to the reduced flights. Flew from Birmingham, small queue for bag drop then a coffee at Neros before going through security, straight through there too.
Arrived at Corfu at 7.50pm just after a Cardiff TUI flight. Cases were already on the new belts when we had passed through passport control, quick check of PLF and in the the taxi for 8.30. All very smooth.
Then it was time for a draft Corfu beer and the most delicious Stifado from Aris at Romanza followed by portokalopita, orange cakey pie! Welcome to Corfu  ;D

Checked in with TUI and PLF code just arrived. All ready to go tomorrow  :)
