2010 - What's Changed in San Stefanos - Closed - Opened - News?
« on: January 19, 2010, 07:30:27 PM »
Hi All - I know this is started / posted in the 3rd week of January'10 - but maybe we can build on this as we approach the Summer.

I am sure that the regulars would like to know of any changes that may be happening in the Village for the 2010 Season.
So - has anyone heard anything - (especially to those who are in the resort over the winter) - has anyone noticed:
1) - any new building
2) - anything that has closed up
3) - any rumours of any changes
Any new Marriages, Births, (hopefully no deaths)??
For my part - I hope all are well and healthy in the resort, and life is treating you well!

Bar 38 is allegedly moving from its present position to one by the car hire place next door to Thomas Bay.

Glenn and Maria had another little girl......... .......Well, Maria did the hard part!    info from Facebook.

When I was there in Oct/Nov last year Hilary and Spiro had already started bulldozing the land beside the car hire to build the new bar. They are definitely moving across there. There may well be a new restaurant up by the athens bar on a bit of land that has had an unused building of some kind on it for a while.

That's an interesting bit of news!
Bar 38 will then be able to put on live entertainment again!
Good news for choice in the evenings - I wonder if the old Bar 38 will be running as something else??

I would like to know if there has been any progress on the new "road" that is supposed to bypass the village a couple of miles down the road (forgotten its name) on the way to Sidari.

I am told that the Avliotes By-pass is now in operation.
It was completed just after we went home last year.
Can someone who has used it please confirm and say roughly where it starts.
I believe it joins the road to Avliotes, near the petrol station (BP?), just before Avliotes (towards Sidari).
Not 100% sure where it comes out the other side.

Thanks Mike, That will be good news for the coaches etc.
I now know exactly where you mean.
But - I love driving through the village, stopping for a quick one in the taverna, and people watching!
However, on my first drive this year - I will try out the by-pass to get to know it.
Because, if it's just a quick trip to Sidari for a shop or bank machine, (if S S / Arillas runs dry), then a very good option!
Yammas to you as well and σε ευχαριστώ (thank you).

That's also my favourite place - food is really great there, especially some greek dishes as well.

 ???  ???  ???

Mmm, funny that - it was nowhere near ready when I left on 9th December.
Don't think I've ever seen anything done quickly over there - everythings snail's pace - you know, a la Greek-style!! Unless of course they've gotten a move on since then!

Hopefully it'll be finished before the start of the season eh?

Mind you - I remember driving on the roads when it was just a mud track or the road base only,
maybe it was drivable without the finishing touches!

Yes, mud track - holes on mud track full of water - trucks on road - diggers - men standing round with hands on hips. Get the picture?? But yes I suppose it was just mud tracks  - dare I say it - in the olden days!  ;D

ps. And I promise to be nice to lemons in future!  ::)
