Travel to Corfu town
« on: August 16, 2009, 04:14:32 PM »
Hi we stayed in the Athina in May this year had a great time and we are looking to return to the resort next year. One downside was we like to go into Corfu town, but did'nt find a good way to do it,as we dont want to hire a car as I don't fancy the roads to much. Any suggestions

Hi Andrew and welcome to the forums. There is a bus service form the resort and also various trips from San Stefanos travel as well.
Not many alternatives other than road though for part of the journey.

Last local bus returns at Tea time! So ok if you don't want to make a day and night of it!

You can also do the Corfu Town shopping excursion!
I prefer the car - I find the roads easy myself!

Last time we travelled from SS into Corfu Town we caught the 10.45 bus from SS and 7.30pm or 8pm back and returned about 9.15.  had a good day - very, very hot, it was the first week of August last year.

The Local bus is a good way to do it, but also check out return times for a later bus to Sidari.
You can get a taxi cheaply from Sidari back to S S!!
I have a feeling that the last bus back to S S, was much earlier?
Not sure of the times exactly, but you need to check them out!!

Think the later bus ( ie arriving San Stef 9pm-ish) has been off the timetable this year which is a nuisance, but yes I'm sure there is one to Sidari later in the evening. Taxi from Sidari to San Stef last year was €15.

Evening is definitely the best time to go though - daytime is so hot and uncomfortable!

Driving to Corfu town isn't that bad Andrew, yes it's very busy, and manic at times, but that adds to the excitement! lots of hooting and honking going on, but that's par for the course, rarely is a horn hooted in anger, just as a warning, mind you parking can be a bit of a nightmare in Corfu Town  :-\

Go to the new Fort at the front - park in front of the cricket pitch, controlled parking - dearer - but worth it!
easy access. Just follow signs for the port and do a right when you see a blue direction notice on a pole in the road!! Easy now follow the road around!!
