Happy New Year
« on: January 01, 2013, 06:36:14 PM »
Happy New Year to Everyone!  After spending a while looking for where we want to stay in 2013 we are now ready to book.  We have normally booked by Oct so late this time.  We are definitely going to San Stef again this year but not sure whether to go May or Sept and then thinking of going to Kefalonia as well and have been looking at Katelios.  Has anyone been there? - we have been looking at the Magnolia Resort.  We have been to Lourdas, Lassi and Skala but never to Katelios.  Any feedback would be very welcome  :)

Happy New year Diane, we are going to SS in June, we are also considering Lourdas later in the year, can you tell us what it is like regarding beaches, is it really touristy? etc. Any info would be great.

Hi Di

Drove through Katelios a couple of times whilst staying in Skala.

Seems to have a better beach than Skala but looked really quiet. Think there's about 7tavernas.

Have you looked on the Kef forums on Trip Advisor?

Hi Lilly and Gavlah - thanks for that    I will do a bit more research but think it might be good for us as we like somewhere a bit quieter.

Lilly - its been a few years since we went to Lourdas but we stayed both times at the Villa Mare - booked through Kosmar - both times we stayed one week and then one year went to Skala for second week and the other time to Lassi.  We really loved Lourdas and the Villa Mare is practically on the beach.  The beach is beautiful and really quiet.  Not many tavernas - a few near to the beach and then another one if you walked up the very very steep hill.  You will need transport to get out of Lourdas - but you may not want to.  I don't know which tour operators go there now though.  :)

Hi Diane, we are also doing both San Stefanos and Katelios this year, although we are Corfu newbies but have been to Katelios before.  We are returning to the Eryphilli studios in Katelios which is directly opposite the new Magnolia accommodation. This time we intend to see more of the island as last time we had a totally lazy 2 weeks and never left Katelios.  As Gaviah mentioned there are several tavernas on the front to choose from - we liked the Katelios Tavern. Do try and find the Dreams Bar just back from the beach - we only went there during our second week and regrettted not finding it sooner! For further information have a look at the following website: www.goinggreek.info this has a great forum which I use to keep upto date with goings on in the village. I would also suggest using Trip Advisor and www.justkefalonia.co.uk to have a look at what is on offer.

Hi Diane,

We were in Katelios in June last year and returned to San Stefanos in September.    People we spoke to who were staying at the Magnolia Resort said the rooms and food were fantastic and the hotel is set in lovely surroundings.  Katelios is very quiet with no buses and expensive taxis so you needed to hire a car if you wanted to go anywhere else. Although we enjoyed our holiday in Kefalonia, San Stefanos is still our favourite and we look forward to returning again in June this year.
