Supermarket Sweep
« on: June 08, 2012, 07:01:37 PM »
As many are now on count down to San Stef, I am sure a rough price guide for the towns supermarkets would be of great help, especially to families and those on a budget.

This is in no way intended to look at direct supermarket comparisons but simply to give advice on cost of living items which may come as a surprise, many enjoy self catering, as we do, however we found some items were expensive and a little planning may help first timers.

I would hope we could focus on bargains as much as preparing visitors for the odd item which may be dearer than at home.

Last year we found Wine to be good value in supermarkets with 5 euro securing some decent tipples for balcony relaxation!

However Supermarket spirits were very expensive, branded drinks were 25 - 30 euro for a 75 CTL bottle, no G & T for me last time!

I would be grateful for any reports on this seasons  prices in particular the Bargain of the day !

Hi , If you are on a very tight budget or just careful either hire a car ?? or catch the local bus to Sidari (10mins away) there you will find two larger supermarkets for all shopping including fresh meat.
You will enjoy it here it,s a nice quiet resort.

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can update on general prices this season, wines , spirits and beers for the balcony tipple!
snacks and basics, breads cheeses salads and soft drinks for the beach picnics etc? On a bit of a budget, may need to bring one or two things in the suitcase! Any updates appreciated, cheers.

Mythos bottles 1.15 from the supermarket chiller.
Large (1.5 litre?) Alexander the Great Cabernet Sauvignon 4.50.
Only spirit we priced was Cointreau which was expensive at 26.50 per bottle.

As we were staying at the Romanza and not self catering we didn't use supermarkets much. We drank Rose @ 2.6 euros for a 1.5 litre bottle from Aspa supermarket. The new one that has opened had a sign up advertising Fix lager for 1 euro which seems cheap but i've never drunk it ha!

As I live here the one thing I always ask family visitors whom come to stay with us is to bring us coffee, you can get freeze dried Carte Noir in a lightweight sealable packet in UK, here I personally find the Nescafe Classic very bitter and expensive and the Gold Blend even more expensive so if you have room I would bring coffee in a plastic lightweight sealable bag.

Wine cheap, as on a previous post, even from local in resort supermarket 2.50 for a retsina, or white/red table wine in a plastic bottle, 1.5ml or Apellia brand, Rose, White, Red again 1.5 litre glass bottle around 3.80 euros.

Metaxa 17 euros for 750ml so expensive considering its a local drink.

Soft drinks around 1.80 - 2 euros for 1.litre bottles.

As we live in the next village we do shop both in resort (SS) and also as previous post in the larger supermarkets in Sidari.

Fruit & Veg, always fresh and well priced mostly locally grown and delivered along with wonderful fresh bread daily to all minimarkets.......

Ask the locals if they will sell their own homemade wine .

Fix is a stronger lager and nice 1e for a large bottle from the new s/market
