Arriving in San Steph Tommorrow (By Car!)
« on: September 19, 2010, 12:12:37 PM »
O.K. we havent quite driven all the way from the UK but will be arriving in San Steph tomorrow after a short drive from Kassiopi :D

Gill and I have spent the last week in a lovely Villa in the small resort of Avlaki near Kassiopi and it has been wonderful. We arrived on Saturday 11th September after a 3 hour delay with Easyjet, it seems bad weather in Tenerife had delayed the planes departure.

After arriving in Corfu we spent 2 nights in Corfu Town before driving to Avlaki on Monday, luckily our hotel was close to the Airport as it was 3am by the time we arrived. Corfu Town was great, even though we have been many times we always discover something new, we even managed to get lost in its network of narrow streets. On Sunday afternoon we sat on the Liston watching the young beutifull people walk by then watched cricket on the Esplanade, the whole atmosphere was wonderful. In the late afternoon we visted one of the back street Taverna's for an early dinner before retiring to bed to catch up on some much needed sleep.

The drive from Corfu Town to Avlaki was a joy and we stopped off at Barbati for a coffee break.

The weather during the past week has been amazing with clear blue skies and temperatures between 26c to 28c in the afternoon, we have discovered some great Taverna's locally including one at Old Perithia recommended by Rick Stein, the Onion Pie was fantastic.

Prices this side of Corfu are higher than in SS but the food is excellent, we have enjoyed some great Meze's.

So its off to SS tomorrow where we are staying at the Fedra Mare, looking forward to meeting all the usual people and enjoying more of the great Corfu sun.

I hear the weather back home has turned a bit Autumnal, if so get on a plane and come to Corfu, summer is still here and the water is lovely ;D

Thought of the two of you yesterday when we had to buy a new seat. Pity we can't be there too. Enjoy it and say Hi to Dimitri, Pipina et al.

Thanks Tony, the Fedra Mare is as good as it looks in your photographs with a very high standard of accommodation, we have already booked for July next year.

Weather this week isnt bad but not as good as last week, the Mistral was blowing a gale when we arrived on Monday although it calmed down yesterday so we could go to the beach. Today is warm but fairly cloudy with the promise of showers this afternnon.

Went to the Little Prince on Monday night, it was busy and the food was excellent as usual. Last night we went with friends to see Rod Stewart at the Condor Bar and had a great night, Rod was brilliant and it was 2.45am by the time we left Bar38.

Currently nursing a hangover in the Condor over a much needed breakfast, if it rains this afternoon we will not mind as it will give us an opportunity to catch up on some sleep!!

Jimbo

Your mission is to capture the Black Dog.....at least for 24 hours. I do realise thought that to complete this mission you may have to venture up the hill one night. However Vlad the Dog is a massive fan of the Ozzy Oil bbq night....he can often be found lurking around the water feature trying to scrounge some village sausage!!

Have a great time mate, hope the sun shines for you

Hi Jimbo,

We told Demitri at the Little Prince that you were coming last night and he rushed over to check the schedule that had just arrived from Thomsons.

You will be pleased to know your name was on it and Demitri is looking forward to seeing you.

Bring an umbrella as the forecast for the weekend is rain before the sun returns on Monday, next week the forecast is good.

See you on Friday night.

Andy

Forecast high in Fife today is 12C. Currently the rain is whipping from the North, with its trajectory almost horizontal. All black dogs are inside and the seagulls have resorted to walking :(

Now, how is the weather in SS.....

Another day in Paradise today, sunny this morning a bit more cloud this afternoon but the temperature still reached 27c.

Tomorrow might not now be a total washout more dry and cloudy rather than wet and cloudy with the main rain event Saturday night.

Cant complain either way, have been in Corfu two weeks now and havent seen a drop.

Town was much quieter last night and as we walked past we saw only two couples in Manthos and the same in Olympia and Olive Press, yet Little Prince was packed with every table full by 9pm.

Young Alex is a big draw, the old ladies love him and his cheeky smile.
