What is it about the Romanza? We've now got to add ghostly black dogs into the equation. I know from the regulars that I've seen that it's probably a hang-out for the Addams family, but we're now getting a terrifying picture of ghouls round the pool and phantom hounds pacing in the night hours. I am scared.

~only just noticed this now,  booked on line with Thomson didn't have any email to say to complete never really had final invoice but did receive phone call from thomson asking if everthing ok and did we want to book seats together etc, they didn't at this point mention this.
therefore never completed and didn't have any problems  everything just as when we have travelled to greece or any other other country previously.
I would imagine if compulsary that it would have to be better advertised and future bookings unable to go ahead with out completing the form at tiem of booking

Gav

I also got the kokkinisto recipe from Katie and have cooked it at home, it's delicious, the best in SS.

Did anyone notice a strange black dog wandering around San Stef in the last few weeks?!
He looks to be a Bull Terrier/Labrador cross, black in colour and wears a thick grey collar?

He was first spotted enjoying himself at Ozzy Oil bbq, he used to appear up at the Romanza last thing at night and even followed me to the room a couple of times. He was seen in Arillas by Marina from the Romanza and then followed a couple on a walk to Avliotes where he attacked a group of chickens!!

Looked ugly at first as his bottom teeth stuck out!! We called him Vlad!!

Anyone spot him?!
Hi Gav
That dog haunts the Romanza. It all started last year when Johnny Rebel picked it up outside the Teresa and took it back to the Romanza. He then locked it outside his room where it cried all night. It comes back every night hoping to find him.Johnny will deny all this as he was blind drunk at the time.

Hi Gav, brilliant review littered  with information which will be most useful for those planning their first trip to SS. I'm sure regulars will reflect upon your impressions and find your updates equally helpful. You will recall we overlapped by one week and I agree with the majority of your views and thoughts re the resort and likewise I rate the Romanza as the jewel  in the crown so to speak. Re your interesting thoughts re visiting again. We found ourselves restricted to one week this year, a crucial therapeutic window to recharge the batteries,we decided to play safe as we knew we could fit into the Romanza and be as energetic or quiet as the mood took us.As ever it worked a treat and we spent the majority of the time wandering to and from the beach, in the background but still part of the Romanza warmth. We will no doubt return again as its nice to feel you have a safe haven when you need it.I wonder if its the warmth of the welcomes and,to a degree, the predictability of SS that creates so many repeat visitors.

Nope they didn't

I was most annoyed and upset by it. I did complain to old Costas who just saluted, shook his fist, waved his hat and me and offered me some strange fruit from a cardboard box!

I took this to mean that if I returned next time then I'd be receiving the jam.

Yours

Disgusted of Leeds
Hi Gav
The strange fruit in the cardboard box were kumquats.Until you get your feet really under the table you have to make your own jam.

Not one for massive reviews but this site provided me with useful information when picking our hol.

We stayed at the Athina

Athina

Hotel ok but no more. To be honest the pool was probably too big. Some days it was full of kids, kids and more kids. I once counted circa 25 lilos/blow up dolphins/rings/blow up corcodiles in the pool at one time. Impossible to have a swim.
The rooms were ok, kept well tidy. I did think the pool bar toliets were shocking though. I wouldn't let the kids use them as the floor was covered in urine and they stunk vile. I cant understand this practice of people using any pool. Either use your own pool at your own hotel or go to the beach

Food

To be honest the food varied from average to decent, nothing hit me as being fantastic apart from one night when we met friends at the Romanza. The food there was fantastic. Can no one in San Stefanos cook a decent peppered steak? I had 3 (Little Prince, Mythica and somewhere else I cant remember) the steaks were cooked as requested but all 3 sauces were a kind of mush. The dancing at Zorba was good fun (my daughter loved the waiters). We went to Condor which the wife and kids enjoyed but I felt was very cheap and nasty entertainment (I went to Thomas Bay to see a band whilst they stayed there) Ozzy Oil was probably our favourite place to eat as a family. The service in Little Prince was shocking

Resort in General

Everyone was friendly for which they deserve credit. We found it shockingly quiet. One night we went to MYthica to book for the following night and it was nearly empty so we just sat down there and then.
The colour of the sky was amazing on a night but other than that it was nothing to write home about.

I understand why people return year after year to see friends they've made over the year but there's a lot better places to see in Greece. Would we return? We probably would but it wont be for a few years and it may be a last minute kind of thing rather than planned.
Thanks for all the useful help and info given on here. We wish every hol resort had a site like this!

Gavlah - Can you report back in 2011 on the status of the KJ/KM? I  know that Barras, Little Prince and others are very disturbed by the thought that their breakfasts may be lacking that special ingredient that makes for wild pool-side partying at Romanza.
