Hi Carl - I'm jealous! Have to wait until July. I'm sorry I won't have new Almond book by next week, but I may have by July. Did Julie finish book two?

San Stefanos news and views / Theodora
« on: March 16, 2023, 09:17:12 PM »
I'm very sad to report that Theodora, Spiros' venerable mother at Nafsika, has died. Her funeral was today.

A legendary cook, she was 89, and had been suffering ill-health for many years. For a long time she could be found sitting inside the hotel that she and her husband George built over thirty years go, usually with the little dog Marley by her side. She had a beautiful warm smile and a timeless air about her.

I remember the bet!

Restaurants must, I believe, take payment by card if the cost is above 30 euros. And all businesses MUST take cards or face a heavy fine.

As waspman has pointed out many times, the Halifax Clarity Card (which is Mastercard) is excellent. I've used mine just about everywhere. We take enough cash for drinks and a bit of lunch and use the card for evening meals.

Last time I was in the village on my birthday, staying at Nafsika, Spiros brought me a choccie pudding with a candle, unasked. How lovely.

Hi - Welcome to the forum. You'll find that the village had changed, but also strangely not changed.

The welcome will be huge and warm.
The sea will be wonderful.
The food will be more than you can eat.

You will be coming home!

We also take loads of pills. Keep them in their labelled packaging. I have never seen any bags be searched at Corfu, and anyway they'll only care if it looks like you're dealing.

If any problems arise the pharmacy in Sidari will sell you most things over the counter - but not opiates such as codeine. The clinic in Ag Stef is very efficient and if all else fails the doctor will assist.

Where to stay / Re: Little Prince
« on: January 24, 2023, 08:17:57 PM »
Just had a message from Dimitris - the sale last year apparently fell through, so the family are there this year. I'm sorry for the, but pleased for us - we're staying there in July.

I know they want to retire and were thrilled to think they'd sold it last year, so I'm sure it's up for sale. I believe 3M euros is less than what they thought they had got.

Strangely, when I was writing the second Almond book I put some scenes in Little Prince into it with Dimitris and Pipina. Somehow I didn't want them gone because they've been part of Agios Stefanos for us since 2009.

I can support that. In the pre-Brexit days you could bring as many as you liked for personal use. Bummer.

Quick look at TUI and the prices are not much different from this year for packages. If the pound continues to go south until it's worth the same as a Zimbabwe dollar, that may well change. The airlines have to bet on fuel being cheaper than it is now.

It looks to me as though availability might be a good reason for booking now!
