Yes - and the thought of a long lunch in Mistral or Manthos hovers just out of sight!

I've only just discovered there is a second airport webcam. It has a lovely view over the entire bay to the south, showing the church and lots of activity with boats coming and going and planes arriving from far away. https://www.corfuland.gr/el/live-webcams/la-veranda/view-details.html

The frame-rate quite slow - about 1fps - but the views are worth it. It's about 30 second behind the runway webcam. With two monitors and a webcam on each you have the interesting sight of a plane landing before it's arrived!

The runway webcam is at https://corfu-info.com/corfu-airport-webcam/#live

The best way to use the airport  cameras is in conjunction with flightradar24.com. When a plane is approaching you can go to the webcams to see arrivals.

It's been off-line for a day or so.

Sunday is always "locals" day, and judging by the number of cars and quads outside Manthos a lot of long lunches are being eaten. We have 40 MPH winds forecast for later, so it looks like wild is the theme today.

Top right of the page.

Best is https://corfu-info.com/ which has lots of cameras, including the airport.

I've been quite shocked by some of the comments made in the Agios Stefanos groups on Facebook poo-pooing the idea that there were any problems on Corfu. Although the south and west of the island are fine there is still a serious situation in the north-east. Someone who should know better said the BBC had been "scaremongering" and there were no evacuees. That's simply not true. Loutses has been evacuated and the people are still in hotels. Many roads are closed, and new fires are springing up.

Latest news at the time of writing here: https://enimerosi.com/en/article/79998/Scattered-fires-remain-in-the-northern-and-northeastern-part-of-the-island

Of course everything is fine in the west of the island, but I find the "we're all right and sod everybody else" attitude of some people pretty disgusting. I lived in the north of Zambia in a little hamlet surrounded by savannah and in the rainy season lightning caused vast areas to burn, as it always has. Fire clears the land of unwanted scrubby growth and sterilises it. BUT - it is terrifying. The speed at which it spreads is unimaginable. People from the wetter northern climes simply have no idea about what it means.

Tourism is partly to blame for what is happening in the Mediterranean region at the moment. In times past all the land was managed and cared for. The people moved away to the coastal regions to run hotels and cafes, leaving the land mostly untended. The only longer term solution is to control the land; clear the brushwood and use controlled fires to consume the flammable stuff.

In the meantime utmost care is needed by everyone. The flame-fronts can spread faster than a galloping horse. It only takes one idiot to drop a bottle and leave it in the sun.

The fires are all in the north-east of the island, around Mount Pantokrator Old Perithia, Kassiopi etc.

Corfu seems far better organised than Rhodes. People were put up in the Theatre in Corfu Town, with ample supplies of water etc. Tourists are now being sent back to their hotels.

You can keep up with the news on the local on-line newspaper:

On balance I think I'd rather be on that beach with a cold Mythos nearby than this horrible non-summer. It's a week since we returned home after having to abort our holiday, since when he haven't been able to sit in the garden once. We've got filthy colds, and I'm still fighting my way through TUI's arcane repayment system. Gillie's spending most of her time in bed trying to keep warm. We are thoroughly fed-up, and the weather forecast is crap well into August.

At least my third book will be finished ahead of schedule!

Stayed there many times and never been ravished, unfortunately. Did get a few hugs on grab-a-granny night, mind you.

Thanks, George! We're a lot nearer the North Sea and get the full blast of cold air. 13C currently, and drizzling, which at least makes a change, because we've had almost no rain this spring. Had to put a sprinkler on the vegetable patch for hours before digging it.

I forgot to mention that it's back again!

I'm so jealous looking at the people lying about in the warm weather. This is the worst year for weather here that I can remember. June, and the heating's on. Struggled up to 14o today.

Equally galling is the weather forecast saying how glorious it is. It's ******* freezing up the east of the country. Sunday morning when I went shopping there were people wearing woolly hats and scarves. Rumour has it we may see the sun come the weekend. Fat chance.

In case you're wondering why the Nafsika webcam is offline, Spiros said on Facebook that his router died and he's waiting for a new one.
