Out and About / Re: How I found San Stefanos.!!!

Debra and Jimbo,

That was spot on.  I also feel that you have to be a special/different kind of person to truly appreciate what San Stef is all about.  When I explain to others what the wife and I do on our San Stef holiday, most of them just look blank.  When I go over in my head what I have explained then I understand their blank expressions, because quite frankly it must come across as rather boring.  Walking, reading, relaxing, eating & drinking etc.  I think that is why it is a friendly resort, as you always meet like minded people.  That's why I like this forum.  You really need to experience the whole San Stef thing to "get it".

Gillywoo/Andy,

Great to get feedback.  I was actually thinking about posting a new topic regarding the new chinese restaurant.  Have you tried it?  That sounds great by the way, spending a long weekend in San Stef.  Did you just arrive and trawl the hotels or had you already booked?

Information and help please / Re: Santorini Resorts
« on: April 20, 2012, 07:35:57 PM »
Hi,

The wife and I have been to Santorini and we stayed in the resort of Perissa.  It was wonderful.  It still has its Greek roots although there are still a few music bars, mainly on the sea front.  There are lots of restaurants and tavernas to choose from and the people are very warm and friendly.  The resort itself can probably be covered on foot in less than an hour.  So if you are a walking fanatic (like me and the wife), it's best to head up and over the mountain to the nearby resort of Kamari.  This should take not more than an hour and I will not spoil it for you by explaining the walk.  Lets just say I personally thought that I was going for a full on SAS yomp, which it was at first.  Anyhoo, I dont want to spoil the surprise.  Whilst in Kamari, which is pretty but not as good as Perissa, you can have a spot of lunch then get the boat taxi back to Perissa.  Again, I wont say too much but it is a laugh (can you swim?).  Perissa has a nice long beach and there was not a lot of traffic in the resort, which is good.  You will enjoy Perissa if you like San Stef.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Fresh fish

Thanks Chris.  It's probably one of the few tavernas that we haven't tried.  Is it any good?

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Fresh fish
« on: April 14, 2012, 01:41:12 PM »

Hi everyone.  Although I have been to San Stef a few times now, I am thinking that the restaurants and tavernas are not all that great when it comes to serving fresh fish (not frozen).  I may be wrong.  Can any others out there recommend a good place for fresh fish?  I do recall Yiannis Grill advertising fresh fish but I'm not sure if the wife and I tried it.

Jimbo,

That was so well put, that I thought I was there.  Thanks for the information, really appreciated.  As you are aware, we have been to San Stef (I will always call it that) a good few times now but have not stayed at the Little Prince Apartments.  However we have dined there plenty, well recommended.  Sorry to be a pain Jimbo but do the balconies face the pool or the main road?  Getting a bit excited now for my hols!

Hi all,

My wife and I are also staying at the Little Prince Apartments in June.  I know Jimbo has been helpful with apartment selection etc, but are there any apartments to avoid?  We like a high floor, are there apartments on the ground floor?

I can definitely see some tactical voting there.  Pack it in!  That's how we got the coalition government.   ;)

Like most of you, I cannot say we had a really bad meal (perhaps Nafsika just the once when the prawns had not been cleaned, the wife complained of grit and sand being present).  However, here we go;

1. Olympia (excellent everytime we have been)

2. Mythica (dont bother with starter and just get the bread with olive paste)

3. Sunset  (proper Greek food)

Debra,

That is beautiful.  Your descrption was so ....well... descriptive.  Your love of the place comes across just right.  My first time at San Stef was a long time ago, same time as Tony I think.  However, I always feel reluctant to elaborate about my first stay in San Stef as I was with a different lady then (well it was over 20 years ago).  But if the other forum members dont mind me elaborating, then........   ;D

Soulie, the wife and I have been to Kefalonia, although not Skala, and we think San Stef is truly the best.  We just feel that it has that Greek feel but with such a lovely bunch of Brits that are of similar ilk.  It's dificult to explain actually to others that have not sampled San Stef.  You will certainly not be disapointed.

That also sounds good Jimbo but I have to agree with Dimitris, thats some walk you did there!
