San Stefanos news and views / Re: Nondas up for sale

I remember looking at this a while ago, in that day dreaming sort of way, where you only consider the upsides, and none of the downs. It's been on the market for some time now, and with the current strength of sterling, it does look like quite good value. However, it will take proper hard work and dedication to make it pay well, and when I'm in the village I do become a little lazy. Not for me. I do miss Elpitha though, at the time it was probably my favourite eatery in the village.

Debra, I have to admit to more than a bit of envy, that'll be a great stay.

Wow, Hippopots, I on the other hand do envy your journey.

You must be a bit more hardcore than us though because your journey sounds like only a two sleeps journey, where as we managed to spin it out to a 5 sleeper trip!

One day when I get a moment I will post the full story of our trip down and back to Corfu this year. It was a real adventure and we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Even getting the car trashed by a red Suzuki jeep whilst it was parked up in SS didn't take the shine off the experience. The car yes, but the experience no.

Good on you, you became our very own conduit right into the village from all our remote locations, and I for one still read them even whilst I was there.

Well done, a sterling effort.

Information and help please / Re: British Airways to Corfu summer 2015

Rilo, we go every late November, and generally stay either in Ypres or Arras. This year in fact we have a night in each, as we continue our year of travel indulgence! My grandfather was enlisted in early 1918 at the age of 16, but after training luckily didn't reach the front until late spring early summer. This meant he missed the German spring offensive, and hence there was more of a chance of me and my lot being here. He was involved in the Battle of the Peaks of Flanders around Ypres, (although he called it Wipers), in late September 1918, by which point the Germans were starting to crumble. The young boy from a tiny village in the Fens was very proud of his part in that significant advance.

Oh, and by the way, BA are doing flights next year, check it out.

We didn't, I was fretting too much about making sure we got to Dusseldorf in good time. We will however be going here in November: Noël Cuvelier's Rural Supermarket (which also sells a lot of beer! And I mean alot) Abelestationsplein 30, 8970 Poperinge West Flanders (on the D984/N38)

Have to say that the web cam images today have made me envious of anyone who's there at the minute.

Intended calling in there this year for a beer at least, and then never did. Can't put my finger on it, but it just never appeals for some reason. And then once I'm back, I regret not calling in, stupid isn't it.

I'm sure when I've looked at the map previously the street view option wasn't active for the village, but perhaps I just missed it.

Now, I know I am slow, so before we go anywhere, perhaps you lot already know this, but have you explored the village and surrounding area with the google street view facility on the map? It's briilliant.

I wanted to check the position of the track in the middle of nowhere between Agios Stefanos and Avliotes that makes it's way towards the coast. Not only is it marked on the map, but you can "virtually" stand at the point that it starts, once you use street view.

If you've ever wondered want the village is like out of season, on a sunny day, take a look, I found it fascinating. Not many people around, I counted two, and everything appears very much closed, apart from the door into Dino's old house, (bless him), opposite Olympia.

I know, I've got too much time on my hands.

Noula, now the beach is sorted, can you do something about the car parking charges here in Cambridge?
