Out and About / Paxos Boat Trip
« on: July 13, 2019, 10:08:38 AM »
This was a great trip that we booked through San Stef Travel. Early pick up at 7am for the 9am sail from Corfu port. From there it was about a 75 mins cruise to Lefkimmi to pick up the Southern Corfiots and onwards across the deep blue Ionian Sea to AntiPaxos then Paxos itself.

During the cruise across the Ionian, there was Greek Dancing. It was like Zorbas at Sea, with a lady and a man dancer. How they managed it in the tight space as the boat bobbed up and down through the swells was a credit to their skill. They were very good.

The cruise ship sails in and out of spectacular sea caves on Paxos' west coast, then anchors in the calmest, most turquoise waters just to the east of AntiPaxos. The water was warm. You had one hour at anchor to swim in the sea, if you wished .

After that, it was a short 20 minutes hop over to Paxos. The sail into the harbour is special. The little town is pretty, and with the sun glinting off the calm inshore water and reflecting off shiny yachts, motor launches and other craft, you did feel a certain 'wow' factor.

2 hours in Paxos was enough time for a splendid lunch with ice cold wine and then a stroll around the town. It is a lovely wee place.

The sail back is around 2.5 hours. There are plenty of seats for sunbathing, reading, snoozing, chatting, etc. There are also shaded canopy areas plus a spacious indoor cabin.

We got back to San Stef around 8.45pm.....straight sight to Beer O'clock for food and a libation.

Yammas :)

Out and About / Afionas
« on: July 11, 2019, 11:08:35 PM »
We had a great walk today along the coast to Afionas.

It took us around 2 hours, but that included a 45 minute stop for coffee and baklava in Arillas. Although it was really windy in San Stef it, it was much more sheltered in Afionas.

We had lunch in the Porto Timoni restaurant which had the most picturesque views. The deep blue and turquoise colours of Saint Georgios Bay were beautiful. From up high the windsurfers and paddle boarders seemed to be just floating and ebbing away gently in the hot sun.

As always, the walk home seemed quicker, but the refuelling stop in Akrotiri came at the right time.

For those interested, we left Nondas just before 11am and got back about 4.30pm. A great day out......no doubt our calf muscles will remember it tomorrow.

Yammas.  :)

Very pleased to report that a spectacular thunder and lightning show is now passing over the village at midnight. It's been brewing for a while but it  is now letting rip. Wow :-)

Back to San Stef today for the first time since 2011.

First impressions of the beach is 'wow', so wide and clean. The 180 beach bar is fabulous and the new builds surrounding the Delfino Blu, which were under construction the last time we were here look terrific.

For food, we went to Yiannis Grill for a lazy, but tasty gyros. Just what you need after a flight from Edinburgh, via the Heathrow dogleg.

Bumped into Maria and Ken, who are looking well. Just now, the Southern Comfort is being sipped on the Nondas terrace and all is good with the world :-)

Yammas!

Always finish our evening at Athens bar, very busy
We always used to start our evening at Athens as we sloped down from Olgas. That was 8 years ago. Looking forward to enjoying the village from the other end this time.  :)

So far no changes with BA. We have a 2 hour connection on the way out so hopefully that doesn’t get too tight.

We have booked again after what will have an 8 year gap. Staying at Nondas in July for 10 days. Must admit we’re really looking forward to seeing what’s changed in the village and, of course, slipping back into that relaxing rhythm.

First place looked at before we booked was this forum to see what was happening. It’s still good.

Had 4 years at Olga's (July 2008-11, Scottish holidays, early English holidays)), never had any problems.

To be honest, having been in Canaries, Costa Del Sol and Algarve since then the only similar experience I've seen has been adults doing what you describe.........but they usually get knackered after 10 minutes and then crawl back to where they came from.

Very clever video Waspman, we've not been since 2011 and it was nice to see friendly, familiar faces again, cheers.

Louise, the main waterpark is a cracker. Its about an hour on a coach from SS heading back in the general direction of the airport. One of the travel agents in the town will sort you out with tickets. We went a couple of times with our lad when he was 7 and 8. Great day out.

Nice one. Think I'll have a word with the Scouts to see if they could introduce a new Greek cooking badge for my boy :-)

We take the opposite view and respect the school holidays. So far we've been able to do that, but something might change that in future, you never know.

If I was Head Teacher I would insist that if the kids finished 5 days early, then they must start 5 days later when they come back after the holidays ;-)
