San Stefanos news and views / Re: Here's my holiday review....
« on: September 04, 2016, 06:59:18 PM »
I normally do a review but didn't this year as I only tend to report that we had a good time however in the spirit of friendship here's mine.
Everything was very good except for the bin situation which the locals had solved by taking the rubbish themselves to a local football pitch. Can you imagine that here there'd be rioting in the streets.
One thing I must tell you though is that exactly halfway through our fortnight and settling down for breakfast at Fedra my two sons appeared with beach towels and a cheery hello. we were gobsmacked. The eldest was supposed to be in work as he had no annual leave left the youngest was waiting for his A levels and looking for work.
Well my wife burst into tears and I checked how many euros we had - they ain't cheap our two.
What a surprise.
Anyway a great second week was had by all.

I remember it well

No busses that time of night. San Stef Travel are providing travel to and from the festival for 8 euros per person.
Directions: Head towards Arillas, when meeting the tee junction turn left (not right towards the beach) festival is about 50 yards along on left, just past Brouklis Taverna.

Anyone who enjoys a full breakfast,must pay a visit to this place.The biggest breakfast I have ever seen,my goodness,the plate was overflowing,but I managed.Two eggs,two sausages,two rashers,beans,mushrooms,fried bread,hash brown,and fried tomato,tea or coffee,orange juice,toast and jam,all for 6 Euros,incredible,and a really warm Greek welcome too.

Same as Fedra then Winkie J, but no hash browns at Fedra

Our favourite restaurant as well. Nothing is to much trouble. Usually eat here at least 3 times during our 2 weeks holiday. Can't wait to be back in resort in 4 weeks time and sampling the great hospitality

Their card machine was broken last week Jules, how many times have  I heard that?

What rate were you getting? 125 doesn't make sense!

Agree Jim, Santander is my bank. I have Santander 123 debit card, 123 credit card and Santander Zero credit card. Both credit cards are commission/charge free, was getting 1.19 - 1.20 only 2 days ago in San Stef. The Santander gold debit card cannot be used abroad without incurring charges, the exception being in Spanish territory where it is commision free.
I also have the Halifax Clarity (like you Jim) and was getting 1.20 from the ATM, but paying off online quickley so as not to incur  interest charges. That proved to be better than the 1.12-1.13 (after their 2% commission) which local outlets were offering.
Cash can also be withdrawn on the Santander Zero credit card, commission free,  but is unfortunately no longer available.

Just returned from Agios(San)Stefanos, the local exchange rate in shops etc varied from 1.13 to 1.15, all minus 2% so very poor indeed. Better to bring euros from the UK
The rate on my "specialist" credit card was 1.20 from an ATM, with no charges/commission whatsoever.
