San Stefanos news and views / Unwanted Guests
« on: October 19, 2016, 11:40:13 AM »
Did anyone have any unwanted guests this year? We were staying at Peli and Marias and had :
- gecko in the kitchen. Luckily there was a gap under the door so we were able to guide him out that way.
- huuuge grasshopper thingy came into the bedroom and parked itself on my white linen trousers which were hanging on the outside of the wardrobe (got him out with help from the neighbours and their sieve!!)
- great big snake on the slope. As we were walking down the slope one evening a great big snake slithered out in front of us. It went and hid under an inflatable outside Peli and Maria's shop. Hubby went to take a photo and it then slid out across the path. there were quite a few people watching, wondering what we were doing/looking at!
Spider stories are not welcome !

I get the old supply and demand argument for prices shooting up in school holidays but this is the other way around. Yes indeed, we could get 2 weeks at the Nafsika for less than 2 flights only...ridiculous

Thomson flights from Norwich 2 July £479 (each) for 2 weeks but drop to £327 at end of July i.e. in school holidays. Random?!

I think that's really harsh. Silverstar (who I don't know by the way, other than from this forum and facebook) is a regular of many, many years and obviously loves the village, as do her family. She gave a review of all the restaurants she visited, not just Olympia and has clearly explained her experience, more than once.
Just to be clear - I've never had a bad experience at Olympia so that's not why I'm defending her comments.

Comments on facebook last night that the weather was awful yesterday - cloudy and raining most of the day. I feel so sorry for those that are only there for a week and get bad weather

We usually go to the Condor once during our two weeks (for about an hour!) and it was full - no seats to be had (this was July).
Agree that it was mean spirited to take down your poster, you spend enough money in the village!

Strange, although it's not my favourite we find them very friendly. Didn't notice the 7.50 charge in July - but it might well have been on there - I don't look at the detail (I know I should). It was the busiest we've ever seen it this year.
Great review SilverStar, glad you had a great time.

Wow, sounds wonderful. The new separate house next door looked lovely too (saw it when we were there in July)

I'm well hacked off with the increase in price for flights/holidays next year (and no, I didn't vote leave)

My friend is in Agios Gordios at the moment and apparently it's very quiet

This year we had the nightmare scenario of waking up in the early hours with one buzzing in our faces. Chances of seeing it - slim to nil so wrapped the sheets round tightly and went back to sleep. In the morning it was laying dead on the bed next to my hubby - he had obviously swatted it. How he did that in the dark and half asleep I'll never know!
