San Stefanos news and views / Re: Sun Beds
« on: April 09, 2014, 02:39:34 PM »
Hi Maxg; When we left last year in August Waves had started to do free sunbeds if you bought something from their taverna, I don't know if they were allowed to continue doing so, like Jimbo says they may have been fined, or asked to stop. I am sure the other sunbed vendors wouldn't have been happy as this is their living. Along the beach at Manthos he always has a few sunbeds to use if you buy something, he used to have the sunbeds in his garden next to the beach, last year they were on the beach. 8)

San Stefanos news and views / Re: year after year
« on: March 20, 2014, 03:08:58 PM »
I agree with everything that everyone said. For some reason our little piece of paradise pulls us back each year. We went twice last year, and we went to Spain and Portugal, I don't even try to compare them, as they are completely different holidays (golf involved!) and of course we going back to our beloved SS this year.

1.   The people are wonderful
2.   gorgeous beach, never really that busy, you can always find a quiet spot
3.   I feel like I'm "home" especially sitting in Manthos's with a big glass of wine watching the world go by!
4.   Even the people in the supermarkets make you feel like your their friend
5.   Excellent restaurants, never had a bad meal yet
6.   Great walks
7.   Did I mention the people? :)
8.   Hardly any lager louts, or folk in football strips!!
9.   Nobody cares where your from, or what football team you support.
10. Never anyone standing outside their establishments trying to get you in with the promise of free shots etc (my biggest pet
      hate)
11. Good beer and wine
12. No all inclusive hotels, which can ruin the economy of any small town, hopefully it stays that way
13. Oh and the people are wonderful
14. I just cant put my finger on why we go back!! but whatever it is I hope it never changes:)

San Stefanos news and views / Re: brewery tour
« on: January 20, 2014, 01:37:39 AM »
We went last year. We made our own way there. It was open on a Wednesday and Saturday between 11.30 and 1pm and sometimes on a Thursday morning. It cost one euro for the tour and samples of the beer. It was a great way to spend a morning. You can buy their beer there which was only a euro a bottle, a lot cheaper than the shops. Like Jimbo says you can also go with San Stefanos travel.

Information and help please / Re: Ryanair
« on: October 24, 2013, 02:22:12 PM »
Ryanair from East Midlands - only flights are Wednesday to Wednesday!

Not a lot of use, most appartments / hotels will only do Mondays, (some exceptions for Fridays)

The only god thing about Wednesday flights (if you can find any accomodation) is that Corfu airport will be relativly quiet!

Jet2, Monarch, Thomson or TommyCook for me.

Or how much time / petrol would it cost to drive to Brindisi and then get the ferry over to Corfu Town - anybody done this lately?
Hey Benson
Ryanair flights from Edinburgh is on Tuesdays and we have never had any trouble getting accommodation from Tuesday to Tuesday even in July/August. Have you tried to get a hotel/apartment from a Wednesday, I hope this isn't a new thing as we haven't booked anywhere to stay yet! :)

Hey Lilly
The flight should have departed Edinburgh at 7.30am but they changed it to 15.45! It wasn't to much of a big deal as we spent more time in the resort on our last day. I don't know why they get such bad press, every time we fly with them the flights are always full so they cant be that bad. Apart from the prices they charge for luggage, and on board drinks and food I think they are fine.

Hi Lilly. We have used Ryan Air over a dozen times and I have never had a flight cancelled. They did change their flight times last year to Corfu but it was a few months before we were flying. Most of the flight we have been on are early morning.
It is only costing us £360 return from Edinburgh for the two of us next year whereas Thomsons flight price is £1050!! These prices for both airlines do not include paying extra for luggage.
They don't do holidays, we book our accommodation  independently.
People moan about Ryan Air but the bottom line is they are cheap, and we have almost always had our flights on time.

Where to stay / Re: ANY CHANCE OF FINDING ACCOMMODATION UPON ARRIVAL
« on: October 17, 2013, 11:29:27 PM »
I have noticed a sign outside the Barras saying rooms to let, but not sure if they are in the Barras or not. The Olga which is near The Vickys is only 35 euros per room, why not book before you go. Save any stress looking for somewhere when you get there.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Delfino Blu.................

Jimbo I meant Trip Advisors forum not this one. There are other people who have mentioned reviews being removed.

Trip Advisor should have the courtesy to respond to their emails then people wouldnt think that they need to resort to these measures just to get an answer!!

I would imagine TA get thousands of e-mails, and maybe haven't got round to responding to yours yet! However I still think it is very bad manners to give a hotel any sort of review if you haven't even stayed or eaten there.  TA should never have put the comments on DB page.  (not Silverstars comments because that was a real review)  I really I don't want to get into a big debate with anyone, I am just giving my opinion.

Jim I am not missing the point, I agree Silverstars review should never have been removed, but for others to give DB reviews regarding posts being removed, surely isn't fair,  quote from yourself "We've now seen two examples of TA pulling things. In the second case, it make sense, because it wasn't a review"
Put the question on the Corfu forum page and see what the results are, but not on DB review page.
And yes Gav it does say its not a review, so it shouldn't be there.

I think TA should be ashamed to post the latest review. I thought they read reviews before posting, surely they didn't read that one as it is nothing to do with the hotel, the same as the last review that was removed. The reviews should be about the hotel/restaurant not about why reviews are being removed. I dont think this post is about the Delfino Blu anymore it is about Trip Advisor. And I don't think it is correct that people think they can give a hotel a bad review or any review without even staying there or eating there because a previous review has been removed! After all this is peoples businesses and livelihoods you are talking about, and we all know that the lovely wonderful people of San Stef have felt a big decline in their businesses these last few years.

I read the review earlier, it wasn't really a review about the hotel but more about reviews being removed, it mentioned the Romanza review not being removed earlier which has nothing to do with DB.  At the bottom of each review there is an option to report the review if the reader thinks there is a problem, so maybe someone who likes going to the DB thought it unfair and asked for it to be removed.

Where to stay / Re: Best value budget appartments with pool
« on: August 31, 2013, 08:16:07 PM »
We have stayed at both the Olga and Nondas, they are both quite basic, however they are  clean, tidy with everything you would need.  Olga is only up a small hill. Nondas is up a large hill but there is a shortcut. And Nondas include transfers. I would definitely stay at either of them again.

Yes we are JaxB, but the boy just come home on Thursday with a High School football trip details for an Easter training camp at Feyenoord in Holland, which fell into the "surprise/holy sh!t" category. So once we've got that organised then , like you, we will look at flight prices from Prestwick which seem the cheapest. Are you aware when Ruinair announce the schedule from Edinburgh?

I just looked back my records and we booked the flights from Edinburgh at the beginning of December 2012. However as you know 2013 was the first Corfu flights Ryanair done out of Edinburgh, hopefully they will be on sale earlier:)

We used Ryan Air from Edinburgh twice this year, the flights cost under £200 each. Thomsons £480! Our first stay was at Fedra Mare in May which was only 300 euros for a week, our second stay in July/Aug  was at Nondas two weeks 500 euros including transfers. However I would be booking with who ever was cheapest.
Then I would have more spending money to give to the local economy. We have used Thomsons twice in recent years, but it was a late booking and half the price it should have been, but we didn't book through Thomsons we used their internet site, Holiday Hypermarket which was  an extra 20% below the Thomsons price. Lofty; Are you thinking of returning to SS next year  :)
