I agree with Gillie! If you don't like a topic then don't read it!!

I may agree/disagree with what is being said, but I do not like it when childish insults are used rather than a logical argument!

We may not like/agree with other people's opinions, however, we should all be open for debating the subject in an adult manner!

Just travelled from Corfu Town to San Steph and No Rubbish! The authorities have done an amazing job clearing the back log and most bins are nearly empty.

In San Steph all the rubbish piles have gone like they never existed although I did notice several bins have been removed altogether.

Larry spotted on the beach clearing the sea weed as well so all looking good!

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Beach - a hypothesis
« on: October 17, 2015, 06:45:45 PM »
Sounds very plausible to me!

We stood on the steps above the Havana Bar, watching the waves rolling in and out.

Large rocks have now been placed on the sand in this area - I think they were placed there last winter.

When you watched the waves, as they hit the rocks they became distorted and ebbed at an angle instead of flowing back and forth. So no doubt the sand below was being pulled away in a different direction to the rest of the beach.

I wonder if this may also be an added reason?

Hi Gillie. Getting cold here too but at least the sun is shining even if it is cold. I hate the dull, wet Autumn days!

I seem to have spent the whole week in a wine/alcohol infused haze - you were very good!! The worst thing is we got into the habit of having a drink at the Kapentanios late afternoon, and I got the taste for their cocktails - much to Andy's horror - but they are fab!

Had a lovely holiday as ever - but always come home more tired than when we arrived!!x

Great post Jim - so pleased the weather stayed fab until you came home. The final night at LP sounded wonderful - I love to see Pavlos dance and Dimitris in a flap. Wish we could have stayed to enjoy it.

It was lovely seeing you and your lovely wife again albeit with a wine infused brain most of the time :)

By the way - I think Cameron is quite good looking.............x

The Athens bar is our favourite! Music fab - but not too loud so you can still have a conversation.

Also, Nikos makes the place - so full of life and happy!!

When we were there El Greco had live Greek music - which was lovely - and much better than the dreadful so called tribute acts - who sound nothing like the real performers!

But by 1am a lot of people are wanting to sleep - and the sound should have been reduced a bit. It will be interesting to see how noisy it is next month.

They had live music on when we were there in May. It had gone 1am and was really loud - Dimitris was not impressed.
We then walked through the village and Bar 38 was just as loud!! I felt very sorry for anyone staying in Thomas Bay as they had it from both sides. The Condor was still going strong but had closed their doors so it was not too bad.
You could still hear the music when we got back to the Kapentanios - but after about 10 mins it went quiet - so not sure if the police turned up or what.
If this was early season I dread to think what it will be like in July/August with all of the other venues trying to out do each other!! To be honest that 'strip' reminds me of Sidari and is not my favourite part of the village in the evening!!

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Problem with San Stef Travel
« on: September 18, 2013, 02:59:29 AM »
Hi
I know everybody sings the praises of San Stef Travel which is exactly why I have used them for taxi transfers for the last 2 visits. However we had problems this year when we booked the coach to go to Corfu Town. All went swimmingly until myself, and 4 others were dumped in Sidari on the way back without warning and told a mini bus would collect us due to an accident !!!. So we waited and we waited and we waited and eventually Noula arrived 45 mins later smiling in fact the first comment was "so this is where they dumped you" now as you can imagine, we were all tired and perhaps a sorry would have been good.  She did indicate that we had only been waiting for 20 mins which was not true. When we asked her where the accident was she knew nothing about it and was very rude. She said all she knew was that she had been woken up and asked to pick us up !! Not good and very unprofessional. We did use San Stef for an excursion on our last visit but as we were picked up in a van that had no suspension and taken to Sidari to meet the coach I didn't use them for excursions this year but thought we would be safe getting the coach from San Stef and back again to the town.
I have just booked for next year and will not be using San Stef travel again and would not reccommend them as Noula was very rude to us.
Almost as soon as the driver dropped us in Sidari he was picking up another coach load to take to the town so I suspect that is why we were not taken to San Stef.
As said above if Noula would have apologised I would not be posting this but instead she was very rude

An unfortunate incident, however, I will just add that my sister and hubby booked a trip with Thompsons once and were put on a old minibus without aircon, it was so bad they got off at Sidari and walked back to San Stef!

so it's not just San Stef travel that makes mistakes.

As for an apology, you try getting one off Thomson......good luck.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Smoking in Tavernas
« on: September 18, 2013, 02:53:28 AM »
Hi, this is my first post on this forum.

We have been coming to San Stefanos for 8 consecutive years and returned last Monday having enjoyed a fabulous 10 days.

The only thing that spoiled it was the smoking in the tavernas and it seems to be getting worse.  We were in Yiannis one night and four people on the next table smoked continuously all through the meal.  Little Prince was another taverna where people seemed to smoke continuously, as against previous years when it was one cigarette at the end of a meal when most people had finished their meals.  We ate at Olympia 3 times and did not see (or smell) one smoker.

I really do think it is about time the taverna owners had smoking and non-smoking sections and ask as you enter which you prefer.

Sorry to bring up this controversial topic again, as I seem to remember a heated discussion some time ago but I do think a solution should be found, as leaving it to the discretion and courteousness of the people who smoke does not seem to be working.

Sorry, but I have to reply to this.

I haven't smoked a cigarette in my life so I think I am non biased but posts like this make me mad!

Greece is not like the UK with its endless political correctness, so if you want to be controlled like a robot stay at home! Greece, thank God is still a place where common sense and tolerance is still the norm so don't expect the Gestapo anti-smoking police in San Steph.

Going to Greece and expecting it to be smoke free is like going to Iceland and be surprised by the snow!

Everyone smokes in Greece and I would not want it any other way.

If you want sunshine and no smoke go to Italy, no smokers allowed there.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Little Prince.
« on: September 16, 2013, 11:51:51 PM »
I agree nursejoanne. Love the Little Prince and the breakfasts are so hard to beat!!

Sometimes when the restaurant is busy the kitchen staff can be under stress to get food out, which can mean some people may feel the quality of the food is not so good.

I can have fantastic meals here in England but there is no ambiance. That's how I feel about a lot of places in SS - the food is great but you could be eating anywhere! You eat your meal then go - how boring is that?

I'm not for eating my meal then going to a bar, I love to sit with a carafe of wine and chill, listening to the greek music in the background after my meal, then maybe go to the (Athens) Bar for a drink in the early hours  ;D

When I go out for a meal I want to enjoy the whole experience and the food itself can sometimes be secondary to the atmosphere etc. of the establishment.

The Little Prince can sometimes have it's off days - as all places can, but to me it's the best place to chill, enjoy greek company/music/food and dance and you just can't beat it!!

To me it's the best Taverna in SS!!!

The Little Prince used to have 'No Smoking' tables - but they were usually empty.

On a busy night you would see people walk in, spot the sign on the table and hesitate. The sign was then swiftly removed and the people would then sit down  :)

Smoking is part of the Greek psych and I think it will be a long time before they try and enforce no smoking rules again.

Being a smoker (quickly dives under the table), I love Greece as for once I am not huddled outside trying to grab a crafty smoke - although since the ban in this country we rarely go out now and prefer to entertain at home.

I, like Jimbo try to think of others, but sometimes when deep in conversation you may not be aware that your cigarette is annoying someone else. As Jimbo says - all it takes is a polite word!

San Stefanos news and views / Bank Holiday In San Steph
« on: August 26, 2013, 11:16:07 PM »
Just back from a long weekend in San Stefanos!

Early flight from Newcastle meant we were sat in the Havana Bar by 12pm on Friday!!

Had a great time - no mozzie bites but shattered!! The worst part of going for a weekend is trying to make the days last, which usually means very little sleep!

Stayed at the Kapentanios in the new block, fantastic!! Wonderful apartment with views to die for. Spotlessly clean and no killer shower!! Would highly recommend them and everyone there is lovely - as most people are in SS!!!

Weather was great, resort busy and not a bad meal anywhere. Sadly it's back to work tomorrow so back down to earth with a bump!!
