Surely you can have local laws to suit local needs. If the issue is a Kavos one just have the law for that area/resort. Why harm the rest of the island? Strange

1.1396 as at 11.57am today. That's the highest its been since 1st July. The markets are building in an interest rate rise as CPI is now 2.9% 0.1% higher than economists predicted (do they ever get it right?!?!?).

Could someone please explain the rationale behind this new law. I'm not saying love me, love me I'm thick, but I don't get it.

I just don't get it.

Why, at a time of national economic decline which will probably last for a generation or so (well done the euro zone for selling one of your own down the river), would you restrict how long a business stays open and thereby reducing their income and tax take??? I just don't get it. ???

To my mind that part of the village is the best especially for the variety and quality of the taverna's/restaurants and the noise levels are greatly reduced as well.

If people think the rubbish is bad now they should have gone to Corfu in the 1980s there were open sewers piles of bones in the streets phew. Harry

We did Harry, Messonghi Beach and Sidari, don't recall any of that.

Agreed it was a 20% claim. Sounds extortinate doesn't it? Inflation was at 18%. After 4 months they gave us 20% allied to a 50% cut in the workforce - 9000 to 4500. What a win that was.

I think some of us are being a bit selfish here. The reason the bins are not being emptied is because the men are on strike over a pay dispute. How many of us would work week after week without pay? They have families to support.

As for driving through Corfu town in your air condition taxi tut tutting about the smell and piles of rubbish, what about the people who live there and have to put up with it every day.

I'm well aware the strike is over pay or the lack of it but I for one don't need a lecture on striking and hardship. I'm an ex-steelworker who was on strike for 4 months back in the 80s. Six in the family and only my dad and I working who was also a steelworker so don't patronise me.

Who was tut tutting? I pay my money I'm free to comment. When the waste is being dealt with properly it doesn't matter what the temperature is you don't get the smell. We've been coming here 13 years and only twice has this rubbish issue been a problem that we've experienced. Telling me to suck it up while its worse for them is neither here or there - a pointless comment.

We returned from San Stef last Friday and its clear the locals are doing their best but its becoming a regular and disappointing feature of our holiday. Driving out of Corfu town on the 23rd was depressing. An ex-work colleague of ours was on the same flight and visiting Corfu for the first time - she won't be back.

Regardless of the continued efforts of the local businesses the smell by the Olympia and around Fantasea was awful even after the bins had been emptied.

I feel we've been very loyal to San Stef, for good reason, but are questioning whether to go somewhere else next year.

Sad but that's where we're at

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Spoilt for choice 2014

I disagree Aline.

Part of the enjoyment of this forum is members can voice their opinions without fear of abuse or vitroil e.g. when we list out top 3 taverna's, top 3 meals, or bar's or trips or whatever. Its also used to discuss issues that have arisen e.g. Karen's Delfino Blu problem on Tripadvisor a couple of years ago and the cutlery tax at Olympia last year (I think). Members get involved supporting or defending and again without fear of abuse.

We don't want to sanitise all comment.

Great idea Jimbo. So how would this monopoly board look?

What would replace the 4 stations.................supermarkets perhaps or the 4 biggest places that do live music. I assume the taverna's would replace the streets. San stef travel could replace one of the utilities I guess with the harbour as the other. The church could be a community chest.......
