Information and help please / Is the anywhere that sells good sunglasses?
« on: September 24, 2022, 08:50:26 AM »
Managed to break my sunglasses yesterday travelling to San Stefanos. Had a quick look around town but could only find cheap replica glasses. Is there anywhere local that sells good ones? Thanks

I did have a search on the forum but could not find any previous posts on this subject.

Is it acceptable to use he old green paper UK driving licence to hire a car in San Stefanos?

Thanks for any feedback.

Not sure about the accuracy of the weather history on this website. We were in San Stefanos and Corfu Town on 3rd October 2019, it was our last day of a 2 week holiday. There was a massive storm and plenty of rain all round , the power went off through lightening strike on 3rd and was still off when we left for the airport on the 4th.

We were there last week sep first week oct 2019 and the weather ranged from hot and windy to one of the biggest thunderstorms I have seen. Power was out in the village for 2 days, we had to pack in the dark for our journey back.

But it was a great 2 weeks and we are booked for the same period this year.

We are looking to spend a month in San Stefanos next year, either June or September. Apart from the basics will need access to a washing machine. Any recommendations for suitable accommodation please?

We will be out for 2 weeks this September so could check any suitable places out then.

Thanks

I fear that if there had been good news we would have known by now - looks like the nest may not have been viable :(

We walked past the Turtle nest a number of times during our 2 week stay. I imagine they are due to hatch fairly soon or maybe it has already happened?

Anyone in the area that can update us when it happens and any idea what species of Turtle they are - Green or Loggerhead maybe?

Cheers

Out and About / Re: Walks North?

In addition to the walks north we also walked to Afionas twice and Arillas and back a few times. The first time we came out on the cliff tops from the top of the track by the Fantasea restaurant we were pretty stunned by the view across to Arillas and back across San Stefanos. I would definitely recommend this for a short walk. Also stop at the little rustic cafe that serves home made ice cream, freshly squeezed orange juice and cold beers and a host of other hot drinks and snacks.

Above Afionas the view from the Dionysos taverna overlooking Agios Georgios is also a stunner. The walk up from Arillas is mostly a good surface but a bit of a slog. I would not want to attempt it in high Summer, although some of the views along the way are also just stunning.

Reporting back after our return, from a dark and stormy San Stefanos, yesterday.

We tried the walk North in our first week and all went well until Avliotes. We missed the track/road down to Loggas Beach/Peroulades and my phone decided not to want to update Google maps with our position and was as such useless. Any way we had a nice long walk, did go up church and tagged the Ilias Taverna for a visit. When we got back to the Romanza I checked the route in more detail on the iPad and could clearly see that the track we needed to take was right, well left actually, by the Satellite Cafe. We did the walk again in our second week and did not get lost this time. Also the walk up the road from The Romanza to the junction where the olive grove section meets it was not arduous or busy and only took 15 minutes. We used this a number of times to walk down through the olive grove to the town in the mornings, took about an hour.

It's going to get a good wash today - it's  absolutely chucking it down. Storms been running all night mainly off shore but inland now!

Well it was not bad at all, about an hour and a quarter in a mini bus and an interesting and scenic route.

IMHO actually Greek airports, apart from Athens, do tend to be overloaded and can't cope with the volumes. Only been through Corfu once and that was 2 years ago and it certainly was not the worst experience we have had over the many years of holidaying on the wonderful Greek islands - Kos airport still hold my award for the worst zoo like conditions!

Tomorrow looms and whatever happens we will get to San Stefanos and then 2 weeks not to worry about anything else :)

Information and help please / TUI transfer time?
« on: September 16, 2019, 10:37:59 PM »
Coming in Friday from Bournemouth arriving around 11:15 am. Any ideas how long the transfer is usually providing we don't have to wait for any delayed flights from other UK airports ( or if we are delayed ourselves of course ). We went to Roda a couple of years ago and decided that the 2 hour plus transfer was a bit too long after getting up for a 6:15 flight and I booked a taxi which did the trip in about an hour.

Advice gratefully received  :)

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the mozzies I am the one that attracts them but I usually do spray up especially in the evening. I find the Avon Skin So Soft does the trick in most places with mozzies, but not horse flies but I guess they are not a feature here  :)
