Out and About / Re: Arianna's Cafe
« on: March 30, 2016, 10:23:13 PM »
We already know of the Akrotiri from our last visit in 2013. This is well worth a visit - we walked up the hill opposite Summer Dreams just before sunset and got some brilliant photos of the sun setting behind the islands whilst enjoying a cold Mythos at the Akrotiri. I would like to walk to Arillas  and visit the Gravia on our return this year, is the path along the cliff top to Arillas still passable?

Does anyone know of this café (it may be called Erianna's) supposedly on the headland near the small chapel. If so is it worth the walk?

Hi Holidaygirl,
Just returned from 2 weeks at the Rose Garden - excellent!

Don't worry about the walk into San Stefanos - you soon get used to it and only takes 10 minutes leisurely walk. All roads are well lit.

Just returned from our holiday to San Stefanos and I can see why so many people return year after year.

Accommodation - Rose Garden
Excellent first week, just as expected, peaceful and relaxing, second week not so peaceful. As the Rose Garden is so popular, several members of a large family group unable to book here (staying in Barras, Thomas Bay etc.) descended on the Rose Garden to use their pool and bar. I know that this is the norm for some regulars but it did disrupt our stay. No problem with the adults who we got on with very well but their children were very noisy in the pool on occasion.

Kiki and Yiannis are excellent hosts along with their extended family who all help around the place. Lunches were very good - I can recommend the Tuna Salad and Mythos. Room was better than a lot of places we have been to before with a great view. Greek night BBQ was very good but avoided the second week for the same reason as above.

Eating out
We tended to stick to the older part of the village, eating at Olympia, O Manthos, Two Stars, Summer Dream, Fantasea and Yiannis Grill (the one near 3 W's Bar) Our favourites of these were the Olympia and Fantasea. I had the biggest pork chop ever one night in Fantasea and a huge T-bone steak on another visit.

Bars
We started out visiting El Greco's before our meal but as we started to venture further we soon changed to the Summer Dream - great service, friendly staff and comfortable seating.

All in all a great holiday and we will probably return some time in the future, we are still looking at other Greek islands but have started to revisit our favourite destinations (Kefalonia earlier this year and Thassos is already booked for July 2014).

I would like to thank all members of this site for their useful knowledge and helpful tips and advice.  Have great summer!

Out and About / Re: Trips out and about
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:27:27 AM »
Just returned from a great holiday in San Stefanos. We booked two trips with Thomson one to Paleokastritsa, Bellavista and Makrades the other to Kassiopi by boat.  Both were described as half day although we were picked up at 9.00 am and back at our studios (Rose Garden) at 5.00pm.
Whilst both trips were enjoyable we were rushed in Makrades to have lunch. We would rather have cut short the 1 and half hour stop in Paleo and the 20 minute stop at Bellavista to enable longer than the 40 minute stop at Makrades. The trip was on a coach far too big for the roads (and only half full) also no tour guide on the coach.

The boat trip was very good taking about 1 hour 20 minutes from Sidari to Kassiopi, a visit well worth making. However, we were not told that there would be an hour stop at Kalimaki beach on the way back which was pretty much a waste of time.

Seeing as I started this topic I thought it only right to let you all know that we did venture up to the Akrotiri Bar via the road just past the Juice bar. What a climb! However, once we had got our breath back we were able to take in the magnificent views and watched the sunset with Mythos in hand.  Well worth the effort. As mentioned in an earlier post - straight into Summer Dream for another welcome Mythos on returning. The lighting is hit and miss with several broken lights but as we came back down shortly after sunset there was no problem.

Are the roads up to the headland lit on a night so that we can come back down after sunset?

We will be staying at the Rose Garden Studios from 19th July for 2 weeks this year, our first visit to Corfu.  I have been watching videos of the Akrotiri bar located on the headland and the views look spectacular.  Can anyone please let me know the best walking route to this bar.  Thanks.

Hi Diane, we are also doing both San Stefanos and Katelios this year, although we are Corfu newbies but have been to Katelios before.  We are returning to the Eryphilli studios in Katelios which is directly opposite the new Magnolia accommodation. This time we intend to see more of the island as last time we had a totally lazy 2 weeks and never left Katelios.  As Gaviah mentioned there are several tavernas on the front to choose from - we liked the Katelios Tavern. Do try and find the Dreams Bar just back from the beach - we only went there during our second week and regrettted not finding it sooner! For further information have a look at the following website: www.goinggreek.info this has a great forum which I use to keep upto date with goings on in the village. I would also suggest using Trip Advisor and www.justkefalonia.co.uk to have a look at what is on offer.

We have booked into the Rose Garden Studios for 2 weeks next July/August.  Can anyone please let me know which is the nearest supermarket (how far to walk) and will the bakery be open?

Thanks
