San Stefanos news and views / anyone for yoga?
« on: July 14, 2015, 01:49:24 PM »
I know that this is not strictly San Stef... but if anyone feels like doing a bit of gentle yoga then there is a brilliant yoga class on at the Athos bar just off the junction on the way down into Arillas. (Opposite Kostas supermarket).

It is led by a delightful young English woman called Sarah who is very encouraging and takes your own abilities (or lack of!) into account. Classes start at 6 - 7.30 on Mondays and Wednesdays and take place in a lovely little studio by the pool.

Well worth a visit! I thoroughly enjoyed the class and came away feeling even more laid back than I usually do in san Stef which is saying something!

I don't think it is soundproofed and I suppose it depends on when you want to sleep if the bar will cause a problem.

As far I know Margarita only lets out the one big apartment over the bar. My daughter stayed in it a couple of years ago. It is very nice and spacious. It runs the whole width of the bar.

Think you are right about the age aspect Rover but have to say that several parents of young children and teenagers here at present have also remarked on the rudeness and lack of consideration of some families who treat the pool as if it was all theirs. It doesn't stop me returning I just wander off to the beach or another pool with more socially aware parenting taking place.            Ps........I am a mother of three and a secondary school teacher of some years experience so I am accustomed to children and noise !

Opening a whole new can of worms here ......
I have been going to as for 15 years now and have had extended stays all over the village Over the last couple of years I have begun to notice a marked deterioration in the behaviour of some families around pools. Parents allowing children to virtually take over a pool area by screaming and shouting and water bombing.     In the past two weeks in particular in 2 pools that I use regularly there have been families that have totally dominated the whole area with no thought or consideration for others. I know that several other people at these pools feel the same as I do but wonder if other forum members have noticed this development.

Information and help please / Re: Security

We came out from Birmingham a week or so ago and it was horrendous getting through security. the queues were so long that we only had time to grab a quick drink before we had to board and we had left plenty of time. It was not helped by the number of people who did not get ready to put their things in a tray until they were at the search point. All lap tops and ipods etc had to put in a separate tray. it seemed to take forever!

San Stefanos news and views / Hungarian Beatles at 3W
« on: July 28, 2014, 05:50:40 PM »
Had a great night last night at 3W. The place was really busy and buzzing.

I have to say that I have always been more of a Rolling Stones woman, but the group that are on at 3W doing a Beatles tribute act every Sunday  are really brilliant entertainment.

Apparently they are all Hungarian! but whatever nationality they are they are very enthusiastic.

Well worth a visit,  even if it's only to see the wigs!! ;D

I will be just down the road at Theodora from the 21st July. Starting to feel in the holiday mood. Just a little matter of 700 Religious Studies GCSE papers to mark to pay for it all to deal with!  But then 8 weeks in the village!

Following all of the info on here I have just succumbed and applied for the Halifax card! I will probably still use cash for most things but it will be a good back up I think. Thanks for all of the info guys.

It was suggested a couple of years ago that we wore wristbands. I made several friendship bracelets in shades of green ( for some reason it was the suggested colour.) I think I left them at Glenn's but can't remember! I have always thought that it would be good to recognise forum members.

Very sad news. An abiding memory of the village is of spending one late October afternoon helping him clear up the Mistral and doing a huge amount of washing, up eating  various bits of fish sent from the kitchen. He would not let me go without taking a bottle of Metaxa (7!) from the  shelf. , Lovely lovely man. I trust that his funeral was incredibly well attended.

Out and About / Re: Calculating spending money
« on: March 30, 2014, 06:08:35 PM »
I am lucky enough to have to look at this a bit differently. For  the past couple of years I have been able to spend six weeks in the village during the summer holidays. (This year I am retiring and so it  will be eight!) Obviously I cannot afford to spend 50 euros a day for this time.
The reason I post is that I still have an amazing time, even on a very tight budget and would hate anyone to be put off  by thinking it is going to cost a fortune when you are there.
For the week when my partner is there with me I do all of the usual holiday things, but once he has gone I economise and still have a great time. I reckon that last year I spent almost as much in the first week with him there as I did the other 5 weeks put together! Well, not quite, but you get my drift.

I don't get a sunbed on the beach (not that they do them up that end!), I visit the supermarket while partner is still there and stock up with lots of stuff. I eat in my apartment (late breakfast/brunch)  a lot and eat specials when I go out at night. I only drink white wine or very rarely a g and t. This means that both my bank balance and my waistline can cope with a long time in the village.
I still thoroughly enjoy the sunshine, the peace and quiet and just chilling. It is a wonderful place to be even on a budget.
