Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / New restaurant?
« on: May 05, 2022, 02:54:47 PM »
Think I have seen some pics of a new build directly opposite Olympia? …possibly a new restaurant? Anyone any the wiser ? Ps Olympia was a brilliant experience when we were there last September …wonder if the outdoor atmosphere will be changed if there are new premises close by?

Hi folks, as the days begin to lengthen and (fingers crossed ) storm Doris and the like give way to spring , thoughts of summer begin to creep in. So ... How many of us are returning to  San Stef this year. Where and why???
8 of us, four couples, returning to the Romanza - June 30th, ...Its the mixture of the tremendous hospitality,  great food , and of course  the best view in the village!

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Spoilt for choice 2014
« on: April 15, 2014, 09:28:18 PM »
Hi all, by April 2013 we had all submitted our recommendations for our top three restaurants for the 2013 season ahead. The top ten came out as

1).    Olympia..................58 points
2).    Little Prince ............43
3).    Nafsica ..................36
4).    Beachcomber ..........26
5).    Romanza ................25
6).    Zorbas ...................20
7).    Ozzie Oils................19
8.      Waves ....................15
9).    Yiannis....................13
10).   Mistral....................7

I missed last year, but we are on a countdown to return this summer. Therefore can I ask , did all the big hitters live up to expectation? Is this still a valid top ten for the season ahead? Is any one amazed that their favourite did not make the top ten? Thanks in advance for any updates and thoughts on last years highlights.

San Stefanos news and views / More women than men?
« on: March 18, 2013, 03:00:28 PM »
According to forum stats there are a third more women than men on the forum, it used to be more like 50 / 50 what's going on ?!

Is this a trend that translates to actual visitors to SS? My general impression is that the village attracts couples and young families. Have I got this wrong?

San Stefanos news and views / A village Taxi?
« on: March 15, 2013, 02:08:23 PM »
In all my visits to SS I have yet to find a taxi or little toot toot that could ferry people around the village. It is quite a hike from say the Romanza to the old village or beach area, especially late at night after a drink or two? Would a little vehicle of some sorts just constantly moving from one end of the resort to the other not be a viable proposition? 1E wheresoever you wanted to go, set off on foot knowing at some point soon you can jump on and save more time for wining and dining? We all like to stroll, but some of are not as young or as fit as we used to be?

San Stefanos news and views / Smoking while dining Alfresco ?
« on: March 15, 2013, 01:51:20 PM »
As non smoker I wonder what members views are on smoking while dining on terraces and balconies? We love the Little Prince, on our last two meals on the Veranda near the roadside we were surrounded on all sides by tables of smokers who lit up after every course. This did not run in sequence with our courses which meant we were practically tasting cigarette smoke as we ate? Am I being pedantic? Is this an acceptable part of alfresco dining? I notice ashtrays are provided both in and outdoors in all SS restaurants.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Spoilt for choice 2013
« on: March 11, 2013, 02:01:33 PM »
Time to think about all those lovely meals awaiting in San Stef this year ahead. Last years spring poll proved popular, the recommendations for 2012 were as follows
                                                                              Gold medal spot ....   Olympia
                                                                              Silver medal...........  Little Prince
                                                                              Bronze medal.........   Nafsica / Mythica
Highly rated ...........   Ozzie Oils / Beachcomber / Zorbas

Did these establishments live up to expectations? Any first timers find this guide helpful? Was it a fair reflection???

From our 2012 experiences can I invite members to offer their top three restaurant recommendations for the season ahead, as previous top recommendation will receive 3 points, 2nd favourite  2, third place one point. This will hopefully be a very useful guide for newbies  and seasoned travelers alike. Regulars will note Mythica was a medalist last year, ( based on 2011) sadly Mythica did not open in 2012, did anyone come close to filling this gap? How did the Chinese restaurant do in its first season? Anyone know if Mythica may open again?

For us in 2012..1) Romanza         All dishes were outstanding with the view adding that extra something
..2) Ozzie Oils        Never a bad meal, love the garden setting, so relaxed
..3) Little Prince     Some great dishes and great atmosphere / entertainment throughout the evening.

San Stefanos news and views / Supermarket Sweep
« on: June 08, 2012, 07:01:37 PM »
As many are now on count down to San Stef, I am sure a rough price guide for the towns supermarkets would be of great help, especially to families and those on a budget.

This is in no way intended to look at direct supermarket comparisons but simply to give advice on cost of living items which may come as a surprise, many enjoy self catering, as we do, however we found some items were expensive and a little planning may help first timers.

I would hope we could focus on bargains as much as preparing visitors for the odd item which may be dearer than at home.

Last year we found Wine to be good value in supermarkets with 5 euro securing some decent tipples for balcony relaxation!

However Supermarket spirits were very expensive, branded drinks were 25 - 30 euro for a 75 CTL bottle, no G & T for me last time!

I would be grateful for any reports on this seasons  prices in particular the Bargain of the day !

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / The first Supper!
« on: June 07, 2012, 10:33:14 PM »
The season is well underway and genuine feedback will soon be upon us, however, if you had the chance to pre order your first evening meal( its only a make believe so items and venues can move around like magic!) what would your perfect 3 course meal contain?  :P

For me

Starters...........Saganaki ......... good in most tavernas around town
Mains.............. Kleftico........... was outstanding at the Romanza a while back
Puds............... Creme Brulee.... from  Mythica ( sadly not open this time around )

All served at the cliff top Romanza restaurant, with half price cocktails from the 3w's! and the Nafsika wine list as back up!

Can anyone beat that?

San Stefanos news and views / Market forces 2 for 1!
« on: May 24, 2012, 11:33:36 PM »
Via a Thomson's ad link here on sanstef.co.UK we noticed SS deals are becoming quite attractive again. Curiosity got the better of us and we compared our long standing booking at the Romanza. Shock horror, a two week holiday for our travel time is now £50 cheaper than the one week price we paid weeks ago! We have now booked  the additional week for a  cost of £50 ( we had to pay an amendment fee of £50 PP)   >:(    It feels good to double our holiday period for £50 but we wonder if people are comparing their original bookings or waiting and watching the holiday markets for late ( post election?) deals?

San Stefanos news and views / Top Tips for San Stef Newbies
« on: May 16, 2012, 10:59:49 PM »
As the season gets underway I thought it may be fun to have a few 'Top tips' or recommendations for first timers to consider?

Some tips will no doubt be informative and serious but I hope regulars may have many light hearted and quirky snippits of advice based on their years of experience.

Perhaps we may also have a ' whatever you do... don't....... advice also?

I will set the ball rolling with a post or two, hope we can all join in.
