San Stefanos news and views / Athens Bar
« on: June 10, 2011, 04:59:12 PM »
For anybody out for the first two weeks in July a group called "The Carnival" will be playing a couple of nights in Athens Bar. If you get a chance and like a bit of classic rock get yourself in, I can guarentee a great night.
We are giving SS a miss this year (Gutted!!) but i'm sure Olu Deniz will be just as laid back and hopefully back next year.

Pricing's gone out the window. For July the Barras is now more expensive than Thomas Bay and only £20 cheaper than Athina. Has the Barras been quietly refurbished into a 4 star?.
Not sure we will be making it back this year unless prices drop dramatically.

Why have i never thought of this. I go to Maria's for a paper but go straight back to the beach to give it away to my master (Like the good lap dog I am).Why am i not stopping to read it in Summer Dreams with a pint on the way back? I will make sure this starts from my first morning next year  :)

On the walk around the island there is a brand new bar at the old harbour (You'll see it on the map). They were just finishing it off when we were there a few weeks back. Perfect for a drink half way around.

too many holes in the road for me on a scooter. I seem to find enough on the quad.

We had a beach buggy for a day, Great fun but ended up with arms like Arnie :). We then had a quad the next day to venture a bit further. I can't recommend these enough to anybody that has not been on one before.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Beer
« on: July 22, 2010, 04:01:23 PM »
Not sure if it's new this year (I can't say i noticed any last year) but a few places now stock the Corfu Beer company bitter and real ale (Brewed in Arrilas). I'm more of a lager person myself but i must say these were very pleasant on the pallet.

Lilly

They were hiring boats out from San Stef beach just past the Havana Beach bar. It was by the hour or for the day and seemed quite reasonable price wise.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / 2 Stars
« on: July 19, 2010, 04:10:49 PM »
2 stars by name, Not sure what I expect. We tried this restaurant last year and had the worst meal of the holiday. This year the parents kept seeing the place busy and the special board outside was what they fancied. OK we thought, benefit of the doubt and people keep recommending it we gave it another try.
I have never had such rubbish served up in front of me abroad or in the UK. I chose the fishermans plate, what came was a plate (Possibly an old fishermans!!) containing rock hard batter pieces (Apparently cod/squid and tuna steak) a big prawn that looked like it had died of some bad illness and then added to the fryer (Never seen a deep fried full prawn before!). The other 3 meals on the table were also very bland and uninteresting.
With so many superb places to eat in the village I was more gutted than anything else that we hadn't chosen somewhere different. They will not get another chance from me.

(It also didn't help that Jerry was belting out his hits to an audience of 3 next door!!!!!)

Bar 38 has been finished off really well and is great for pre/post meal drinks. They have a singer on a couple of times a week. It really is a chilled out place.

Where to stay / Margarita suites
« on: July 06, 2010, 04:32:29 PM »
Has anybody stayed in the Margarita suites (Where San Steph travel are moving to next year)?
I may look at coming independently next year and maybe here or the Perros (already seen these rooms and they can be highly recommended).

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Mistral Family/Greek Taverna
« on: July 06, 2010, 04:27:45 PM »
We stopped for a drink on the way back from walking to the harbour. I can certainly recommend the milkshakes  :)
Think we may pop back to eat tonight or they have a Greek night on Saturday which may be worth investigation.
Too many places to eat, not enough days!!!!

San Stefanos news and views / Re: transfers
« on: July 06, 2010, 04:18:09 PM »
We arrived on Friday, The transfer in was via Sidari (only 1 stop). We waited at the harbour in Corfu town for 15 mins as somebody had been left behind at the airport and the rep couldn't work out if she had to return and pick them up or not!
We didn't and the transfer was approx 1hr 30.
