Thanks very much Helen  for the info and taking the time to write a reply much appreciated. We will try our best to have a good time even though things will be different. I suppose no pools have any sort of lift /hoist? -hubby will just have to stay in bar while we swim- not too bad surely.
I've found a firm which has a wheelchair adapted taxi so sorted that out. How do they get you off the plane at Corfu if you can't manage steps? I've got visions of a cherry picker!

Thanks again

San Stefanos news and views / San Stefanos accessibility help
« on: May 09, 2017, 03:13:43 AM »

As a family of 4 we have holidayed in San Stefanos for the past two years and had a lovely time on the beach and pool, visiting as many restaurants and bars as we can fit in and exploring the area. We booked to come back this year as soon as as we got home last year. :)
Unfortunately the circumstances are very different now and due to a worsening condition my husbands mobility and strength is greatly reduced and he now is using a wheelchair or scooter full time and cannot manage any steps. However he is keen to carry on with the holiday for the children, we are planning to hire a mobility scooter and other equipment but has anyone any previous experience of holidaying in a wheelchair in San stefanos and any hints or tips? Are there any wheelchair accessible taxis? As far as i remember little prince, Nafsica and Zorbas has flat access - can anyone suggest others? Are there any disabled toilets anywhere? It's not until disabilty affects you that you realise how difficult access is even here in the UK let alone abroad. Anyway I look forward to any help anyone can give. Thank you.

I agree and now the problem is too big for individuals to tackle but the bins were bad last year too. Could not locals form a taskforce to regularly clean the beach - this would make such a difference and maybe some sort of unoffical recycling. Cardboard, plastic and glass sorted separately and kept to the side of the bins and the dumpsters kept for loo waste, food and smelly stuff etc.  San stef is such a lovely place in a wonderful country where we have had many happy holidays but things like this must be doing so much damage to the enviroment and the reputation. It seems to be show a lack of respect and care for the area from which a lot of people make a living even though this  is not intended. Hopefully there will soon be a solution to the current crisis and people can enjoy their holidays. :)

We will be second timers. Visited in May last year and stayed in the Little Prince in a 2 bed apartment. Great place to stay and we were bowled over by the friendliness around the village especially to children. The kids had a great time looking at the lizards and terrapins and trying to catch fish in the little stream by the beach. So we are coming back, got a good deal with BA flights and staying at the Jasmine pool bar, also sneaking out of school a couple of days early to squeeze in a whole 10 lovely days.  8). Getting very excited with less than 2 weeks to go. Would love to say hello to other holidaymakers- I will be the harassed looking mother probably laden down with more stuff than a Greek donkey, looking enviously at all the people sitting leisurely drinking cocktails. Though hopefully will be squeezing in a few :) I am really enjoying all the updates and another one hoping the web cam will be up soon. Happy holidays to you all.
