1.17164 Today upward trend at present
Pound to Euro Exchange Rate: Forecast for the Week Ahead by Poundsterlinglive.com
The pound to euro is in a short-term uptrend after positive data from the UK dispelled myths the economy was going to lurch into a chasm after Brexit.
The GBP/EUR pair has hit highs of 1.1783 during trading in the previous week -  a far cry from the 1.1457 lows of the 16th.

The pair is now in an established short-term trend higher, with peaks and troughs on the up.

As a result, we now see the pair poised to move even higher, with a break above the 1.1783 highs confirming more upside to a target at 1.1845 where the monthly pivot is situated and likely to prove a tough obstacle to further gains.
From a data perspective, in the week ahead the GBP/EUR pair, will see significant data from the Eurozone in the shape of August inflation data and out of the UK Manufacturing, Services and Construction PMIs.

Analysts at Credit Agricole see the euro as well supported, and likely to continue to be so:

“The EUR has been well supported of late. This appears to be on the back of stable ECB rate expectations and reduced sensitivity to risk sentiment. Regardless of inflation expectations as measured by 5Y inflation swaps being close to historic lows, we see limited scope for the ECB to consider a more dovish monetary policy stance any time soon. This is especially true when it comes to interest rates.” Said the French lender in a recent note.

For the pound, analyst Bo Jacobsen at Nordea Bank, is expecting a slight recovery:

“The August manufacturing PMI will show whether activity deteriorated further or recovered after the slump in July, which followed the Brexit vote in June. We expect the PMI to rise to 49.0 from July’s 48.2, which was the lowest since the financial crisis in early 2009.“

Overall the euro appears to have limited downside due to a combination of potentially lower global risk appetite from falling commodity prices, a large current account surplus and the lack of ammunition still available to the ECB with which to ease, from a purely fundamental viewpoint, therefore risks remain marginally tilted to the downside for the pair.

Just 4 weeks to go and we need the holiday - arriving on the 16th if anyone is out there - love to say hello.
Jackie - any news on Chilli Chilli opening? We were too early last year, I know that Vicky has a new restaurant service now...

No, it's from last year as well, it's designed to replace the 2nd part paper licence we used to have to carry.
This would show any endorsements, etc., but it protects you in the event of a claim.
Vallentis didn't ask me last year either, but it's a requirement by all EU insurance companies for hire cars etc. for UK Driving Licences, not sure about any other country's licences.
Best safe than sorry - it's easy to get.

San Stefanos news and views / Car Hire and what you need to remember
« on: April 12, 2016, 02:07:43 AM »
Hi All - - I have tried to reproduce below the nuts and bolts of the DVLA website page concerning hire cars in general and what info you need to take with you.
Best to do this just before you leave or you can do it on-line while on holiday. Failing that the hire company can do it on the phone, as long as you have your info with you.
The most important thing besides your Driving Licence, is to take your National Insurance Number with you, so a licence ‘check code’ can be generated,
to share your driving record with someone, e.g. a car hire company. This has been in force for a while, but easily forgotten.
This is basically what you will see on the DVLA website.
I hope this is of some help. Also check that your photo is in date - you may need to update the image on your photo-card driving licence.

View or share your driving licence information
You can use this service to: view your driving record, eg vehicles you can drive
check any penalty points or disqualifications you have
create a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with someone, eg a car hire company
The ‘check code’ will be valid for 21 days.
You can’t use this service:
if your licence was issued outside of England, Wales or Scotland or to check the progress of a licence application or to check historical information, eg expired penalty points

You’ll need:
Your driving licence number -  your National Insurance number  -  And the postcode on your driving licence

(It’s a criminal offence to obtain someone else’s personal information without their permission).

https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence#before-you-start

https://www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk/driving-record/licence-number

To enter details
You should only use this service to view or share your own driving licence.

Use a different service if you want to check someone else’s driving licence information.

Your driving licence number  Example: MORGA657054SM9IJ
►Where to find your driving licence number

Your National Insurance number  Example: QQ123456C
►Where to find your National Insurance Number

Postcode  Example: EH1 9SP

To access this service online, details from your DVLA record and your National Insurance number will be shared with other government departments (HMRC and DWP) to check your identity.

I agree with Rilo57 - pure greed - - that may stifle sales to the village via Thomson, but loads of other options, and Thomson may have to offer deals at the last minute to save their sales figures, so eyes peeled.
Back to the thread now.
We are going on holiday the week before the voting, so seeing the uncertainty in the rates, we decided to take a gamble and buy the rest of our Euro's now, which listening to all of your predictions seemed wise.
I bought a lot of Euros when it was at a high last year, on Thursday 26 November 2015, when 1 GBP = 1.4242 EUR, (I got just under that actually @ €1.4198).
so I have a load left as I bought for 2 holidays worth, spent a fair amount in Tenerife in March, and have just under half left, so topped up today as it seems prudent to do so right now.
I got a great deal at today's prices, (not as good as a couple of weeks back unfortunately), with moneycorp, inc. free tracked delivery, of 1.2264, so if I split the difference between the whole pot it's still quite good.

Getting very excited now!!! Only 6 weeks on Friday till we arrive now!!
Likewise I supposed - just that having been so many times I tend to get more excited the week before and especially the night before.
I paid my flights with BA last October to secure a fantastic price, Booked this year with Noula including the (transfers and Air-con), Paid the Apartment deposit last October as well.
So we'll be staying in Margarita's Apartments for 3 weeks, I transferred the rest of the Money 2 weeks ago, so they're now paid for.
My spending money - - - Well, today, because of the reports of the Euro exchange rate being "iffy", and reading many opinions,
including Gavin, George and Jimbo, I noticed that it had shot up by 0.9% today because of the TaTa Steel deal, however, they say the Euro could strengthen tomorrow,
(against the Pound), following some deal they are doing in Europe. I thought it would be prudent to buy my spending money top-up of Euros today.
So I checked all the usual sources, and found that 'moneycorp' were about the best with free delivery and free buy-back, (not that I ever do).
I almost went with ICE, for my €'s but I get an extra €9 with moneycorp, and tracked delivery for wednesday, against 3 working days from ICE.
The Post Office, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, etc., etc. were all £10 - £15 dearer for the same amount, so no good.
So I bought it at £1 = €1.2264 which seems quite fair at this weeks rates.
This means I now have fully financed and paid for my holiday including spending money, which feels good - and 9 weeks to go.
Hmmmmmmm !!  Now I'm getting a touch more excited ....  Hope to see some of you guy's over there between 16th June and 7th July . . .

Information and help please / Re: No Signal.
« on: April 07, 2016, 04:08:56 AM »
Sorry Jim but you don't have to do that with Tesco Mobile as they are set up to work abroad and automatically connect to the local network. The details are all on their website.
Usually my phone pings as soon as I get in the taxi at the airport "Welcome to Greece" and goes onto the Cosmote network.
Mine does too, but Tesco have a small proportion of the market.
Jim is right in saying that you generally have to register for roaming in most networks - this I did and it connects automatically now as yours does.
I am with the Three Mobile which has it's own 3G/4G network and a partnership with the old Orange / T-Mobile networks combined - it also offers a "Feel at Home" service in most of Europe and other countries so you can use your contract minutes at no extra charge - - - (Just not in Greece yet - but I hear it's coming!) - Also free Virginnet WiFI from London Underground stations. You can also call over the internet using an App called  inTouch app, enabling Three customers to route calls and text messages via a local Wi-fi network where the Three mobile signal is intermittent or unavailable.
Note: extract from Wikipedia:International access
Until 2009, Three subscribers in the UK, Ireland, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Hong Kong and Australia could use their service on Three networks around the world for no extra charge with "3 Like Home".[24] The service was relaunched on 30 August 2013 as "Feel At Home" for UK customers visiting Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy and Sweden where calls, texts and data consume the same amount of purchased airtime "minutes" as for communication within the UK. Since then, additional countries have been added to "Feel At Home" including: Finland, France, Indonesia, Israel, Macau, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland and the USA.

Gravia, in my experience, is a very German-patronised place. Many are from the Buddhist centre, which amuses me because I find the concepts "German" and "Buddhist" a tiny bit hard to reconcile.

Must say we prefer Akrotiri, which is prettier and has views over Agios Stephanos as well as Arillas.

Dunno is you've noticed, but it's very hard type sitting in the lotus position. Ouch!

Peace and good Karma to you all.
And in spite of losing a couple of stone in weight and having a new hip - an impossibility for me - so I'll just watch the Lotus people
