San Stefanos news and views / Food!!
« on: April 10, 2016, 05:48:50 PM »
Hi - can someone please advise as we haven't been self catering for years but are this year.  Are we allowed to bring with us food stuff such as bacon and sausage (for breakfasts as we like the idea of having breakfast in our apartment on the balcony).  I have a very picky husband where bacon and sausage are concerned!!  Also any advice on other food stuffs we can bring would be helpful.

Thanks

We had a young teenager who insisted on reclining their seat on a coach trip last year.  When we politely asked her if she could put her seat up she refused saying she was "tired" and wanted to sleep, and "daddy" stuck up for her.  She then went on to get her iphone out and play on that for the whole journey back to San Stef !!  We had to change seats as my husband didn't have any space to move!!  At least we could move not like on a plane I suppose!!

We always pre-book our seats for a few reasons to be honest. I am not a good flyer and hate the take off so I need to hold my husband's had tight until we are up in the air!!!  For some reason I always feel better if I can see out of the window - think its probably a control thing!!!  Plus we dont like to sit over the wing we like to be able to see out of the window properly if you know what I mean.

plus there is no panic to get to the airport early as we know we are guaranteed to be able to sit together!!!

So to have to pay the extra for us to sit together is worth it for us.

I wouldn't hold your breath Jimbo about a response!!  Remember our problem with being charged extra for luggage allowance. Well I wrote to Thomsons on our return and even though we were promised a reply with 28 days other that an e-mail receipt for this we have heard nothing.

I have now stopped holding my breath as I doubt we will ever get a response !!!

Hi - think we sort of met you when you was sat outside the juice bar the other day!! You were sat stroking Shane's dog who seemed to be falling asleep.  Had I realised it was you I would have said hi and thanks for all the updates!!!  There was another couple also there who was chatting to you so we didn't like to interfere but my husband was taken up with the dog!!  We are still in SS so if we get chance we will pop and say hi.

We had rain in Skiathos for a few days, must have been around 2007, in July/August.  We arrived on the last day of a heat wave (it had been so hot they had had forest fires) and a few days after the heat wave broke there was torrential rain and it was dull and drizzly for a few days!!  Not what was expected at all!!

Must admit we were not too fussed on the quiz at the end on the BBQ night, it went in far too long.  The food was good though, both times we went.  It was just other guests that just happened to be there both times we were there that spoilt our night.  Hopefully we will be trying it again this year and it being a more relaxed atmosphere than the last twice!!

Out and About / Re: How I found San Stefanos.!!!
« on: June 17, 2014, 12:55:03 AM »
We first went to SS in (I think it was) 2007.  We had already booked to go to Rhodes as our main holiday in the summer but I just fancied a week away at other half's end of May shutdown week.  I was bored at work (no chance of that happening now!) and just started looking on the Thomson's web site and saw, what seemed too good to be true, a perfect holiday!!  Afternoon flights from Doncaster (was gonna be a bit tight time wise as he didn't leave work until lunchtime) adult only (in school holidays) and half board and cheap!!!  It sounded perfect took a lot of persuading other half we could afford two holidays but I won, and off we went to the Thomas Bay!  We had the most amazing week, met some brilliant people and vowed we would be back! Ironically a girl I work with had booked the Terezas for the two weeks prior to us without each of us knowing - they went home on the plane we arrived on!!  They went back the following year too.

The following year we went long haul, which we did for a few years as well as visiting other Greek Islands but always still talking about San Stefanos.  After looking at other places in Corfu we decided to go back last year but after feeling we missed out on all the gorgeous restaurants by staying half board the first time we decided to stay at Terezas bed and breakfast.  We again had a brilliant time and couldn't believe that the staff in Thomas Bay had remembered us when we called in after all that time!  As soon as we got home there was no discussion we booked again to go to Terezas and 8 weeks as now we will just be arriving.

After finally reading all the posts on this section I feel very envious of all of you who have been going for years and so wish we had brought our children here whilst they were young so that they could have fallen in love with the place as we have done!

I fully intend to carry on with this until I either get my money Bach, vouchers towards trips or next year's deposit or if those fail at least champagne and chocolates on the plane out would be nice!!!  Lol

Finally got to speak with someone at Thomsons today who actually sounded interested and who got back to me almost straight away!  But it gets even more stupid!! You wouldn't believe!!

She agreed we had had 20 kgs from the start and said I had actually signed for this when we booked it but I had also signed for the 25 kgs when I upgraded!!  I explained I signed for an extra 5 kgs as I was informed we only had 15 kgs. She said the girl should have gone through the details with me when I signed but I explained she didn't do thus, the shop was very busy and she just handed me over the confirmation of payment all folded up.  I said the 3 times I was told that we only had 15 and we couldn't manage with that for 2 weeks and surely before telling me 3 times the eating weight they should have checked our details properly!!  It didn't take this girl very long to realise what had happened!!

Now this is where it gets stupid!!  She said they were telling her (Thimsons airline I think) that if we want to reduce back to 20 kgs then we have to pay another £56 to do so!!

She is going to speak to "the team" and get back to me!!!  I feel a complaint to their head office coming up!!  £56 is not a massive amount but that's not the point is it?  Anyway it would have paid for a decent meal in SS or lots if alcohol!!!
