San Stefanos news and views / Re: First visit since 2019
« on: August 24, 2025, 10:14:49 AM »
We spent our last 2 nights at the Greek night in the Nafsika and then dinner at Sand Hill on Wednesday, both enjoyable in their different ways. We met Hanna who owns Sand Hill and didn’t realise she used to run the Hideout Cocktail Bar a few years ago.

It was our first time at the Nafsika and we can see why Jimbo and Gillie loved it. We even met Julia the cleaner whom we hadn’t seen for ~14/15 years. Her daughters, Demitria and Sofianna used to have the ice cream parlour just down from the Athens Bar……it is now the Tattoo shop. We looked out old photos with Julia and had a great time learning about their young children now. The magic of San Stef  :)

After a leisurely lunch at Manthos on Thursday, we were picked up at 5pm and back to the airport for 6.15pm. With hand luggage only we were through passport control and into the UK departure lounge in 30 mins.

That’s twice we’ve done the short 4 night break to Corfu, last year we went to Moraitika, we’re lucky the easyJet Sun-Thu flight timings from Edi are perfect for it.

That said, we loved our trip this year. So much so, we’re thinking of doing a week next year but having 3 nights in Athens beforehand. We’ll get planning  :)

Hope you’ve enjoyed our little updates from the short break. For those still to go this year, get excited, it will be great.

Spiros and George are looking after us in the Nafsika. Whisper it........but our room has a fridge  :)

We've set up camp at the Athina loungers and blissfully watch the world go by.

On Sunday we ate at Casa Nostra which served us two superb vegetarian pasta dishes. Last night was definitely not vegetarian as we tucked into great food again at Zorbas. Lovely to see Pavlos is still the great entertainer. He and his team are magic.

This year we booked via LastMinute.Com. The transfer was by Lord Travel and involved a change of bus in Roda. Just under 2 hours, but when we had a flight at 5.30, the bus gave us valuable snooze time.

All great so far
David

Sadly not for us. We've got a family wedding to attend. I think a longer San Stef break could be in the cards again tho, if our short break soon is great.

We’ll survive without a fridge for 4 nights  :)
Must admit, definitely looking forward to staying in the old part, previously we’ve stayed in Olga several times and also Nondas…….no hill to climb this time.

I know Nafsika was an old favourite of Jimbo, so Mhairi and I will raise a glass of red to the old fella when we get there  :)

Thank you Winkie and BAJ.
We suspect the village will still be oozing its friendly charm and wraps itself around you with open arms.
We're looking forward to it.

Hello San Stef lovers
We return to the village on Sunday 17th August, staying at Nafsika.
Looking forward to visiting old haunts and seeing the new ones too. We're only going for 4 nights, so we're planning a San Stef blast before we head home.
All the best everyone
David

Hello Jimbo
I hope you are keeping well. I've just finished Almond and The Deep Blue Sea - I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great entertainment and brought back many memories. I laughed lots of times reading it, especially when the waiter said, "chips or roast potatos"
All the best
David  and Mhairi x

Spiros and his partner told us in July it was a tough summer. A shame, but best to get out and stop losing money.

Sounds like you had a great holiday, we loved our walk to Afionas in July. Lovely and hot back then 😂

Lots of hard work been done to make it so beautiful, especially up near Mango bar, our favourite spot.

Got to agree with you Winkie. Can still remember being amazed at the difference in July.

Reading the above has reminded me that there are two sides to every story.

My mum always told me there are three sides....... ie the truth, which is usually somewhere in the middle, lol  ;)!!

In case you hadn't noticed, the pound hit a 28 month low today. TravelFX's cash rate is 1.0844.

Just wondering how the new recycling scheme (mentioned on this thread a few months ago) is working out? Does each hotel & self-catering property have it's own collection point, or do holidaymakers have to take their own empty bottles, etc down to the central point in the village?

Behind each set of sun-loungers on the beach, there were different bins for the different type of refuse. We stayed at Nondas and din't have any facility for splitting up the rubbish.

There's a scent of lamb on charcoal and oregano, wafting past in the almost-still air as the village gears up for the evening's munch-fest.

That is a perfect, happy description, Jimbo. It makes me almost forget I’m back at work. Hope you and Gillie have a great last week  8)
