Title: Quad Bikes & Travel Insurance
Post by: Andy7 on July 20, 2009, 10:59:09 PM
I know from reading posts on here that many people like hiring the quad bikes available in San Steph.

I have always wanted to hire one but have been put off by tales of people having accidents and not being insured because they were on a bike.

Does anyone know if your travel insurance policy will cover you on a quad bike, I have checked mine and it isnt really mentioned although the hiring of a moped would seem to invalidate the insurance.

I hate all the UK health & safety nonsense but dont fancy an air ambulance bill getting home following a skermish with a Greek driver on the wrong side of the road!

Hmm. Not sure on that one. I think you may not be covered, but most co.s these days do have a 'helpline' number for these type of queries.

I ensured that my travel and medical insurance covered using quad bikes. Didn't affect the premium either.

If you call your insurance people they may add a small charge on for Quad bike use as mine did . It was about £6.00 extra.

This isn't just the case for people using transport on the roads.
You should also ask your insurance provider whether it covers water sports (no dirty comments please  ;) ) and even boat trips.

Missus made a good point that as long as we kept to public roads surely no different , really, than hiring a car, not like driving on a sports track or mountain ravine

That reply went over my head Don!
You're ok sorry?
Anyway - It may be green to walk - but it's not good for my back right now!! and far too slow!!
The quad bike I hired did me proud!! I just found that they feel every bump and deviation in the road surface.
An enjoyable way to travel on a hot day, if driven with some common sense!!

I believe it will do! Don!
A car licence also allows you to drive one in Greece if memory serves correct!
I think you said you didn't have one - but can drive a pair of shoes!
It was never an issue for me as I hold most normal driving licences, so Quad's were Ok.
I have a full UK licence to drive Motorbikes, Cars, Buses and Coaches, Lorries / trailers etc. (Not HGV1).
I also have a Train Driving Licence and used to be a Trainer teaching people to drive them.
I used to have a light aircraft pilots licence, as I belonged to the London Transport Flying Club which had 2 x Cessna's (four-seaters).
Got far too expensive for me and I gave it up / lapsed about 8 years ago now.
Travelled on the Orient Express (my treat to Linda for her 50th), and she outdid that by treating me to Concorde on my 50th!
Good fun though and worth doing, still have the photo's for all the above!!
