Title: Vegies
Post by: cannedfool on July 14, 2009, 06:12:52 AM
Hi all,

After reading the site for a few hours, should really join the partner in bed, i found some really good information about SS.

I have been to Corfu a few times a few years back (in my teens) and personally i love the food (will always remember my first piece of veal in a restaurant near the cricket green in Corfu town). I'm currently looking to return on my partners first real holiday abroad. The big problem being she's a vegi.

Apart from the obvious tzatziki (gimme, gimme, gimme) and greek salad (im sure she would eat this a good 5 out of the 7 days). Do you think i would be hard pressed to keep her fed? I know it sounds silly but this is my first real holiday planned by myself and don't want her to go hungry.

Also, while im here. We are currently looking at Kapetanios Apartments, i can only see glowing reviews of this place along with SS. Is there anything we should be aware of? Were both around 24 and understand SS is quite quiet (hopefully not shut in September). Were not after BANGING music and tearing up the town until 6am but a few glasses of wine until midnight/1am would be nice.

Any advice would be appreciated and who knows you may see you on the beach soon.

thanks

Alex

Welcome to the forum for starters, which is a good way to go for veggies. There are a lot of veggie starters which your partner can make a selection of. The tavernas don't have a problem of having some starters and not a main course. Some of the tavernas also have veggie mains options, Olympia is one I know for sure to have them. If your partner eats fish then that opens up a lot more options, plenty of fish on the menus. Basically, wherever you go, tell them your needs and they'll go out of their way to help! Just ask and the answer will be yes. I've friends who are veggies (fish eaters) who have been to San Stef a few times and had no problem.
Again, no problem to have a drink 'til 1am. You can have a quiet drink (like what I have haha) or with a bit of music. All tastes catered for. Yammas.

I'm sure she will find plenty to eat and as Hendrix has said the taverna owners will help where they can as well. We stay at Teresa just down the hill from Kapetanios at Teresa and you can certainly drink in there until midnight / 1am. There is also amongst others Aquarios bar that is nice to sit in as well without any banging music being played. Glen will make you most welcome there.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately she doesn't eat fish (ow how it would make my life easier). Everything you have said is quite helpful, seems like everyone to do with SS is 8). Thanks very much for your information. Looks like we might come and see what all the fuss is about ;D

Hi - there are numerous veggie dishes, like Briam, beetroot, sweet potatoes, aubergines, courgettes, broad beans , fasolakia, stuffed peppers and pasties[ no not the Cornish type ], whether they'll be very specialised in SS I dont know  and also pastas..is she a very faddy eater? no fish? is she vegan? if so more difficult - if this were Big fat Greek Wedding I'd say Lamb!  ;) :)

Those apartments are for the young and fit

She's not a vegan, I don't think I could cope with that.

Cheese pies seem the way forward for lunch. I'm sure we will survive.

Now to barter with Thomas cook

The 'San Stefanos fuss' is a bit of an oxymoron.

Sorry, I've always liked that word but never had the chance to use it before !!

What I mean is the fuss is about an overall sense of well-being and fusslessness ( if that's what you want of course!)

I think I've just made up the word fusslessness but that has a nice feel to it too !

If you want it in San Stef, you will find it, whatever 'it' may be. How much of 'it' will depend on you.

Just returned from San Stef and though carnivores do like a change. We often ask if we can make up a meal from the starter menus opposed to eating a main meal. In the Olympia they are quite used to us doing this. There are stuffed tomatoes, stuffed peppers, potato skins, stuffed mushrooms etc. Just ask Stelios or Vasillis to prepare with only the veg bits.

Once again Cannedfool - (odd one that - where's that from?),
They actually do cater for Veggies a lot, it's just that Greek Men don't always realise it!!
Go to Manthos Taverna and ask for Veggie food, he will take off the Steak and offer Chicken!! LOL
Seriously though - you can get Stuffed Tomatoes or peppers to die for!!!
We tried a version of fried cheese in the Little Prince on the Last night's meal with Don & Sandra,
It was more-ish!!
I would stress though, that you make sure they know you want strictly veggie food - whatever is ordered, or they may slip in some prawns!!
September will be great - one of my favourite times to stay there, some evenings my require a 'cardie' or jumper as in Sept,
you can get the winds some evenings and it gets slightly colder.
Have a great holiday and thanks for your contributions to the site in other posts!!
