Title: Greetings from San Stefanos.
Post by: deemac on May 08, 2009, 07:33:24 PM
Yes I am in San Stef. Waiting all over. Haven't any news yet as not long here. First stop - a big Mythos (and that's exactly what I'm doing). Will have news of prices, changes etc before too long.

You've just made me go into my cellar and drag a couple of cans up to the kitchen fridge. I was saving them for a special occasion so you can consider yourself honoured Deemac!

Deemac

Hope you're enjoying life in SS. Only been on the forum a few times since joining a few weeks ago. We're back in SS in 5 weks after a 16 year absence. A couple of weeks ago some of the SS regs gave me an idea of drink/food prices. I'd be interested to know average prices for a large Mythos and a smirnoff voda + diet coke in the bars this year, if you have a mo over the weekend. This euro/pound exchange rate is playing havoc with my holiday budget this year!!

Friends of ours just flew back to Norwich from San Stef today. They were getting €1.12 to the £. Better than here!

1.12 euros that is better than UK. Doesn't surprise me though. UK banks, travel co.s, any UK based exchange, always been a rip-off!
So how were they exchanging? Traveller's cheques? Pounds sterling cash for euros in hotels? Exchange shop?

So many questions, but I am not surprised. To Don - Thanks! Bristle Boy - Big beer €2.50, vodka & coke €4 (spirits €2.50, soft €1.50), meals seem the same as last year e.g. 3 course Thomas Bay €7 . I saw €1.12 to  the £ yesterday, but prob commission off that.  To Tonyco1 & Don - I have my laptop, but my accommodation includes a pc.(The Cottage, behind Quietude).  Yiannis is now in what was the Kebab shop opposite Condor, Leo & Jenny's place is due to open tonight (name not yet revealed). I think that's all for now, be back soon!

Deemac......very much appreciated; sounds reasonable, compared to many places in the Med. Last June in Santorini that combo of drinks cost us about 9 euros.....and that was on the 'cheap' side of the island! Now enjoy your holiday!

DeeMac - I really must thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Not so much for the information which is very-very gratefully received from all of us here,
but for being OLDER than me!! Thanks again - I was begining to think I was the Fossil of San Stefanos!! LOL!!

By the way we really love that cottage - we once stayed at the Quietude about 20 + years ago with some friends,
it was well fitted out then - even a washing machine, but we also liked the cottage - who rents it out these days???
One more thing - no a few actually if you don't mind too much!!
We went in May last year - the Kebab shop opp. Condor? nothing open then!
Was that in the new build that Stefanos put up, I thought it was to be a jewellery shop or something??
or is it the one a bit further up in front of Stamatis roughly??
Is Yiannis doing a Restaurant now or what? What is in the old Yiannis establishment??
Is Ossie Oils still running?? any info appreciated and have a brill Holiday!!
One more thing = can you spot where the S S webcam is now located and ask Noula / Ireana when it will be running again please!!
Oh and when you have finished running all our errands - you can have a nice beer and a great holiday!! ;D ;D

Tony Sue sent Noula an email and it is situated on Beachcomber. The reason its not working I think she said was something to do with a problem with the electricity. :)

Hi All

We arrived at San Stef on Friday afternoon having left a very wet and windy Glasgow Airport. Stepped off the plane to bright sunshine and 23 degrees. Been the same since and eight day forecast also fine.

Little Prince as good as ever and food prices very reasonable. Had the sizzling steak last night, fantastic and only 7 Euros. Beer around 2.50 for a pint. Hiring a car for a few days at 25 Euros a day this early in the season. Place is still quite quiet with a few restaurants still to open. Ozzy Oils was still being prepared yesterday but I think we'll definitely give it a go when it opens.

Must say we had a great welcome from all at the Little Prince who had remembered us from two years ago. Also from the Silver Star across the road. Says something about us I guess.

Anyone must go, busy doing not a lot :D

Had the sizzling steak last night, fantastic and only 7 Euros.
I have someone sitting by me salivating over the above comment! Now she is so upset as she has to have Kleftiko tonight. My personal fave and I refuse to cook 2 differing meals! Not long until 26 June then she can buy her own.  :-*

Yes I am in San Stef. Waiting all over. Haven't any news yet as not long here. First stop - a big Mythos (and that's exactly what I'm doing). Will have news of prices, changes etc before too long.

Ahhh good the first wave has hit the beach...lets hope he/she can get messages back from the front line
I am "he" & I can. Scottish And Ancient (even older than Tonyco1)! Weather is wonderful!!!
I didn't think that was possible lol!!! ;)
Glad the weather is good for you as well. Hope you are enjoying the Mythos. :)

Oh and when you have finished running all our errands - you can have a nice beer and a great holiday!! ;D ;D
Sorry meant kebab shop opp Athens Bar (Called Yiannis) doing take away  +a few tables, his old place is still called Yiannis but I believe his cousin is running  it. Leo & Jenny's place opens 6.30 tonight & is called Mythica. Ozzy oils is open.  Ask me another!
Just as asked - what is going on around TexMex next to Zorba's and what shops are open opposite the Condor?
The TexMex is going to be an Italian restaurant, owned by Zorbas, will check out shops opp Condor but I have a feeling nothing has changed there. The big shop opp Athens bar (was leather or jewellers?) is not open & appears completely empty. Had a look Mythica menu & intend to try it - will report after we go.San Stef is busy now because many Thomsons people are complaining about Sidari as a result of roadworks and sewerage problems, so have been moved here.

Sorry, I was confused again-The shops opposite Condor are leather & jewellery shops, they were there last year when we came. Opposite Athens is still Stamatis place.

Glad both of you are enjoying that lovely sun. It's raining here....boo hoo.
On your travels did you notice if there was any action around where the old Tex Mex was? Someone mentioned that Zorbas had got it and it was going to be Italian.

That's correct.A little work still to be done (prob open in a few weeks).

I noticed last year that MacDonalds had closed in Sidari,
so we had to drive to Kavos or Corfu Town twice a day to meet Don and Jules,
for a treble quater-pounder with a bucket of oily chips - Yeah!! as if we missed that!!
Can you imagine a MacDonalds in San Stefanos? - the fast way to ruin!!
We go to Corfu to get away from death by burgers!!

Do they put Alcohol in them to save any ill-effects caused by a health food intolerance. I did try alcoholic slush puppies in Tenerife.....Cool ! I too have an intolerance to fizzy drinks though i find a generous dosage of Bacardi does negate the effect!

Are you sure it's H&S as the weight limit is usually much higher for that!
I have found that it is the Airlines doing this, Thomas Cook especially, unless you pre-pay for 23-25 Kg in advance,
depending on the airline.
I will try and research this one!!

It doesn't seem that long ago when 22kg was the norm. I think it is just airlines trying to get more money out of us all. Isn't the maximum in omne case something like 35kg?

Euro law say's it's 32Kg, Max , I believe.
I have pre booked one case as 25kg - so I hope nothings changed!!

all the airlines seem to be at this carry on now
so dont give them the opportunity to rip you off
change your cases or bags to light weight luggage,
it is possible to get large cases or holdalls that weigh around 1-1.5 kgs.
we purchased two 70ltr holdalls from tesco for £10 each which we took to tenerife at easter
which were excellent and well under our baggage allowance of 15kgs each.
another thing we have started to do is buy toiletries at the airport once you have cleared security and able to put them in hand luggage.
therefore this cuts down on your checked in allowance.

It was 32kg maximum but have read that they are bringing it down to 22 or 23 kilos for health and safety of the baggage handlers. Read this on Thomsons website some tiome ago.
