Title: New to San Stefanos
Post by: Frosty on April 08, 2009, 07:19:59 PM
Hi,

I am new to the website and to San Stefanos.  I have read reviews and seen pictures and I must say that my hubby and I are now looking for a holiday there in June.

Could anyone recommend which travel companies go there.

Thanks

Frosty. :)

Thomsons are the main TO, followed by Portland, First Choice (all 3 TUI) and Thomas Cook. If adventurous you can try it independantly. The above mentioned fly from quite a few airports and then there is EASYJET from Gatwick, Bristol & Manchester. There are quite a few posts on here covering accommodation only. Alternatively we are flying with Thomson in June from Manchester and in Thomson accommodation booked separately. Because we always book our own transfers this worked out far cheaper than a package.

Are you looking for an appartment or did you want a hotel? SS has both all of good standards, we like most started out with T Os but then found it suited us  better to travel independantly.

Thanks guys for all your replies.

Hi Joan,

We have been looking at bed & breakfast but don't actually mind what sort of accommodation it is although to have a pool would be great.  We have never travelled independantly before and are looking to book (hopefully) at the end of April. ;D

Hi Frosty, there are plenty of SC places that are of good quality, Noula at SStravel will book for you and arrange transport to and from Corfu airport www.san-stefano.gr this site has photos and prices of appartments there is also a map of the resort. When you are in the resort there are lots of places that do their own appartments and are happy to show them to you. We've found that by going ind we don't always save as we have a larger appartment than neccesary but that's just our choice. The best bit is not having to wait around the airport you are met on arrival and either a taxi or mini bus is laid on. Last year it was €50 each way but can be cheaper if you share the mini bus.I know it sounds a lot but you are in SS within the hour and no drop offs anywhere else except when you get into SS.
You can use any pool in SS no charge some are quieter than others, don't forget the noise factor if you are wanting forty winks in the afternoon.Hope you find something you like, we've had some really nice places, just check if they are on a hill as some are quite far back.

Regards Joan

Hi Frosty

If you are looking for B&B you should check out Teresa Apartment and Hotel with Portland.  They have a lovely pool and the family that run it are so friendly.  We have stayed in the apartments twice and couldn't fault them.  Hope you find something.  We are going back in July but couldn't get into the Teresa, so we are just down the road in the Olga.

Hi Strogs,

Thanks very much.  I will get onto their website to have a look.
Are there many places to change currency?

Title: Re: New to San Stefanos
Post by: strogs on April 09, 2009, 03:50:22 PM
There are several places that change currency - the Teresa, the Thomas Bay Hotel, the car hire place on the main street and I expect there are more, thats just the ones we have used.

Just to warn you there is only one cash machine in the village and it runs out of cash very quickly.

We booked through Thompsons the first time but have booked indepentently since then.

Any questions just ask we are a very friendly lot on here.

I have mentioned to my hubby how helpful everyone has been.  We were going to leave it until the end of the month to book but I think it may now be over the weekend. ;D

If your looking to use Tour Operators I think Thomsons and Portland may have some special prices on over this week end.

Yes - but they are dearer this year anyway - thats why we went via Noula and easy-jet this time,
most Apts are pretty similar, so look for a bargain!!

Just looking back to our first visit in '99 we were so excited about going to somewhere new. Now we are 11 weeks and minutes from landing back for our 20th visit we are just as excited. We really want to go back as soon as possible but that is in the hands of Mr Camelot LOL

Hi,

Well we have booked, we could not wait any longer after having such positive feedback from yourself and the guys on the forum.  I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone for their advice.
We have booked through Thomsons as we have never booked independently before but will definitely do some research whilst we are there.  We are staying the the Tereza Apts B&B, the views look fantastic!!.
We have looked on the website and seen all the places to eat out.  Please let me know what your favorite one is and we will have to check it out. ;D

The Teresa are a great choice for your first stay in SS. They are clean and very comfortable and you will be most welcomed by the family who own them. We stay in the self catering apartments at the front and have never had any cause to complain.

Glad you have taken the plunge and booked. Never stayed at Teresa but friends of ours have and they love it. So, when do you go? For us 11 weeks can't come soon enough and especially our first evening meal in the Little Prince Taverna.

Even though its taken all this time you are returning to SS. I am sure you will totally fall in love with the village as it is now. It probaly has not even lost any of its charm but gained some from your last visit. :)

I remember the first time we went to San Stefanos and we stayed at the Belle Vue ( no longer open) in 2000 and we couldn't beleive what a beautiful place we had chosen without even knowing anything about it. No internet in our house in those days to do our homework on. At least now we all have this great website to help us make our choices. :)

Went there in June 1999 as a one off. In the previous 20 years we had at least 2 foreign holidays each year and had never visited the same resort twice. One visit to San Stef was enough. We flew home on the Friday and by 9.00am Saturday we were waiting patiently on the doorstep of Lunn Poly (remember?) Within 10 minutes we had booked for June 2000. We have been a least twice a year since and we honestly can't wait for 60 days to pass until we are back again.

I was there in Oct year before last. It was half term week so the end of Oct. I had a lovely week. Weather hot enough to lie on beach and several bars and Tavernas still open (bar 38, 3 Ws etc.) I really enjoyed it even though the atmosphere was very different from July / August .

Welcome to the forums Vanessa. Never stayed there but the hotel is in a great position being right on the beach. The pool is the biggest in resort if not Corfu. You will have a great view of the sunset if you are facing the sea.

Hi and welcome Vanessa, we have stayed there a couple of times, lovely Hotel, nice staff, great pool - right on the beach as well,
and not to forget the Pool Snack/drink bar manager who never smiles - you get a prize if you make him crack a smile!!

Seriously - nice rooms - AirCon (small charge), carpets - and in the hallways as well!!
Sea view is best - look for my posting of U-Tube videos - one on the Athina!
You may find the Half-board meals a bit "same-y", budget for and have a few nights eating out around the resort - worth it!!
You will love this resort!! Try having a drink at Glen and Maria's place next door - the Aquarios Bar!
When in July are you going - we will be there from the 3rd for 2 weeks!

{FIRST APOLOGIES TO ANY NEW COME'RS WHO THINK WE ARE ALL MAD!! - IT'S THESE GIRLS!!}
Nothing wrong with an old Cock!! Experience always wins!!
I always remember the story of the Young Cock and the Old Cock walking along the top of a hill,
The Young cock looked down the hill and saw a dozen chicks below.
He said to the old cock, lets run down and mate one of those chicks!
The old cock replied, no - lets walk down and mate the lot!! Now thats experience!! LOL

VANESSA  I would just like to point out one thing regarding the Aquarius Bar............ This concerns the Athina.............................. We like to sit outside the bar from 23.00 onwards and try to guess whether people going back to the Athina are BAR or BED.. ... If they turn right they go to the bar. Left and its up the wooden hills to Bedfordshire. From this we decide whether to have a refill. If they go to the bar its a refill....... Suffice to say we've never been drunk in San Stef!    As you can see it is a lovely quiet hotel!

Vanessa, if you are on facebook, you are welcome to ask me to be a friend, there you will see a lot of my San Stefanos Photos,
around the resort especially. It includes our faces (Tony & Linda) and Dons & Sandra's Faces (via link), so you can spot us and hide under the tables!! LOL
Zimmer has a jet propelled Frame with "blues & two's" attached, he walks slowly because of his stilettos!!

I don't believe it!! It's called the Victor Meldrew Special, devoid of anything computerised, devoid of any type of communication - (after all, why want to speak to people back home or anywhere else!!), and allows you go for long zimmer assisted walks - on your own!!

Mine just had their diamond anniversary but me and my mum have a special something. While in hospital for a masectomy she kicked up a fuss until allowed to phone me and we spent a real soppy half hour! When I was in with a broken spine I got a nurse to ring and though I couldn't speak I had a good listen! My dad , he just walks past my mum on a Sunday and shouts Hi! When it's time to hang up I shout Bye! Yes a very teenage relationship - 82 & 58 and still have our weekly mono-syllabic chat!

I think you lot read too much into it all, we don't phone much at all, usually just once to remind someone to water the hanging baskets!! LOL
But the point is it's there if we do actually want to make a call.
I still use it mainly to check photos, but my Australian Cousin is visiting the Uk just before and while we are away,
so I may well take out 10 mins for a chat, and it will be free as he has a Skype Mobile.
Also I may watch a film or not! Just whatever we feel like, it also holds Gigabytes of MP3 tracks if we want different music!
I can live without it - but it's just very useful!

Hi Vanessa. There are mosquitos about but if you take any precautions with sprays, plug ins etc. you will be ok.
You can hire cars through SS Travel and probably best to book in advance as you never know.

Tony- can't seem to find you on Facebook- there's so many Tony's!!- HELP! Hope your big meet goes well! I bet you'll have really good fun! Paul and i have talked holidays all day! Can we hire a car at San Stefanos travel? If so, is it necessary to book in advance? Are there many mosquitos in the area??

Vanessa..............When you are logged in on facebook put San Stefanos in the search box............ You may have to flick through a few hundred members but you will find Mr Cox Jules Suela Zoe and Myself!!!!
Search on my email address , it should show in my profile!
Tony the admin tell you not to put your e-mail address on the threads (I think for security purposes). Better to send a pm.
OK - wasn't thinking!!

Tony............. Back track and Delete mate!!

On a serious note it is not advisable to post personal details such as phone numbers, postal or e-mail addresses in the public domain..................... Also worth checking your personal profile. You can hide you e-mail address  so it is not available to all and sundry including the unscrupulous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely worth taking heed of this as from time to time it is noticed that some unsavoury characters do appear on the site and admin has to sort them out for us to keep us all as safe as possible.

He thinks Sandra lets me have money!.................... Some hope.... ........... He has been prescribed 20 litres of Mythos a day (at his own expense) this at least acts as a general anaesthetic and the delusions stop for 60 hours.......... Unfortunately so does CHRIS LOL
