Title: Barras
Post by: don on January 24, 2009, 02:22:46 AM
Can't wait to get back to San Stef and eat in the Barras taverna. Read so many good things about it on here. Never read a bad comment so it must not just be me who likes it! See you soon George!

Don we like it there to. They do a lovely breakfast as well. George and his family are well liked in the village and we think he is a lovely man as well. :)

I also like the Barras - George always tries hard to please.
I am sure to eat there this year again.
I'll look out for you Don - Will you still be wearing the Yellow shirt with the Knives in the back & dark Glasses at night?

I think that this year I shall go in disguise! No decision as to what style it will take. Went to Primark today looking for camouflage gear but couldn't see any!! :'(

Don try the army and navy stores lol!!! ;) You might even get a small beach tent from there as well for the "other end" of the beach ;)

Been there too Jules. It doesn't matter where I look I just can't see any camouflage gear. I take it I must be looking for the state of the art gear! :)

Still think Barras is best in village.  ;D

Anyone know where they serve beetroot soup in San Stef. I know I tried it somewhere after someone on here praised it.

Not as bad (or funny) as the
"Road Kill", "Roach Suffle'," "Flemmington Market Rat", or "Veggimite & Skunk", flavour Crisps we saw in a Blue Mountains gift shop last year.
I have a photo to prove it, but couldn't bring myself to try any.
However, the local kids were buying them non-stop!!

I just tried Walkers Cumberland Sausage - quite nice!!

Two Cumberland sausage.... Not too bad! Two gammon.... quite extraordinarily awful! Two ploughmans.... so bland I can't comment too much!
I do though want to find the "Builders Breakfast" we keep looking but can't find.

Now the Barras do a bosting Kleftiko, do try! Would make a great crisp flavour ::)

Bosting - thats a bit of brummie / black country creeping in there.

Agree on Barras food full stop . All very good. Not sure about Kleftico crisp though.
Nearly back on topic here lol!!

I could go as your photographer!!
I like to make a San Stefanos Beach Beasties Calendar every year, (last 3 years now).
Does anyone else do this or am I just a bit odd!!

On the bright side with so many obvious targets - it greatly amuses my circle of friends.
Sorry Don, Jules and Sue - your'e just not dreadful enough to make the calendar!!
Isn't it good that there is always someone much worse than you on every beach!!

I got a brilliant picture last year of some old boy walking around the beach in his airtex vest, socks, and Y-fronts - still makes us laugh!!
(yes he was German I believe - they have a different outlook to us on changing on the beach).

To be honest I am not a big drinker - do push the boat out on holiday - couple of pints and some shorts with mixer usually does me proud.
At home - because I mostly drive - and my Job is safety critical - zero Alcohol and no dodgy drugs as we get tested -
I don't get a lot of heavy drinking opportunities - so when I do drink on holiday -
it's much cheaper to get the buzz from a few beers instead of many!! -
I seem to be able to handle a few (or more) shorts after a few days practice!!

Not big drinkers either! A carafe over a long leisurely meal and a couple of shorts as a social thing. Only been drunk once in my life. Never again! You will see why if we meet. 1973 was a good and bad year.

Seems we have a lot in common - although I was drunk twice - once at 16 - made me v/ill - once at 24 - I really learnt from that one!!
seems a waste of time to overcook it and throw up. I was more interested in keeping fit in the old days - football etc.
Nice to get the warm feeling, but not to fall over!!

I wish we could all meet. We met Jules/Roy- Sue/John- Jude/Steve at a pre-arranged get together at yannis for the legendary spit roast lamb. None of us had ever met any of the other couples. It was a fantastic night and we have all become firm friends since. You can probably tell by our relaxed mickey taking!

Last August I asked on both here and the Agni site and around 20 of us met for a few drinks, a few laughs and some good company. Sandra and I had met Sue and John before but again we had a great night with loads of strangers. We hope similar nights will become a regular part of our San Stef experience.

I must have just got the wrong impression - thought they had some rooms they let independently at the Barras.

I can check for you if you like - my 'other half ' works there. Actually I don't know about the 'work ' bit,  8) but he goes there every day! And on a Greek Night you might actually get him to dance among the flames with his beret on - if he's in a good mood!!  ::)

Don't know if they have apartments for private rent actually on site as they are contracted but they may have the odd one or two kept aside for private deals. They do have other apartments available privately just before the Perros, out past the tennis courts. If you want their phone number, let me know and I can send you a PM with the details.

Not long now - they're getting organised and open on Friday!

Who is your other half? Nicos?

Oh don't even go there !!!!

The old pony tail was cut off on May Day last year and it was wrapped and put away. Its still in the cupboard and can't for the life of me think what he's going to do with it!!

Don't you encourage him to grow it again ....PLEASE!! It goes into ringlets! Bit like Nellie Olsen's on Little House On the Prairie!

Gwen - waste nothing!! Go to the cupboard, take out the pony tail - split up into manageable strands.
Now you can make some rather special holistic candles with a special greek connection.
Nicos will love it that people are taking a little of Nicos back with them!!!
