Title: Away from the Village
Post by: benson on April 27, 2016, 09:37:31 AM
3 weeks for us this year, so we're planning a couple of days away from the village. We've been going to Agios Stefanos for more than 30 years and we have seen lots of the island but I'm embarrassed to say and although the following are in the north of the island and not that far away from the village we've never been there - this year we will.

1) Mount Pantokrator
2) Old Perithia
3) The 3 Durrell Houses
4) The other Agios Stefanos

Any places you've always said you'd go to and this year are determined to actually visit?

Just looked it up and it looks lovely, a good 90 minute drive?

That looks lovely. A just read a review that says:

Gardenos beach is a quiet holiday-makers heaven. It is a hidden Gem that only locals know about – you will see very little english people here. - See more at: http://www.delightso.me/gardenos-a-hidden-gem-in-southern-corfu/#sthash.gLl2d19O.dpuf

Sounds like my sort of place, because I'm only little people!

Yep review is spot on..we stayed at the accomodation mentioned Kostas taverna, basic but very clean and they serve fantastic food.wasent able to stay there this year as all booked up but founed another place 400mtr from the sea.Its a bit longer than 90 min i would say, 2 hour more like..
Usually takes us about 4 hours as we take all the small roads winding around the coast and stoping here and there to explore and take liquids on board..

The other San Stef (Chelsea on Sea) is lovely but tiny.

Worth popping into on your way back from Kassiopi which is what we did last year - pretty harbour front with a couple of shops and restaurants etc.

I've stayed in St Georges South and Moraitika but 20 years ago.   Both were lovely back then but not sure what they would be like today.......

St George south is great still and has that superb fish taverna Kafesas at the far end close to Adrianas apartments.

Exactly, Swedebasher,  We will be at Andrianas  in Sept for two weeks , a bit like San Stef was ten years ago.

Just had a look at Gardenos and I must say it looks very good  , not too far from St George South ,so we will have a look. Should we be discussing non San Stef resorts in such detail ?  Suppose it's alright just flirting with another resort but will be returning to our first Greek love.

Going to try to get to Old Perithia and if we think we can get to Kaisers Throne on the Quad will try for there as well.

The Throne is well worth a visit....fantastic views across the island and to the Greek mainland
