Title: Forum stickers
Post by: Jimbo on April 10, 2014, 01:16:11 AM
People are always asking how they can recognise other forum members, apart from the fact that they're generally good-looking and classy.

I'm delighted to say that Hotel Nafsika has offered to co-sponsor with my company (Scene Cinema Ltd) a "sticker" initiative, so huge thanks to Spiros!

I have selected a tasteful abstract cocktail glass design, on small round slap-on stickers, which I think will not clash with most evening wear, or even pink flesh.

They will be printed next week and shipped to Nafsika. You will be able to stroll up to Nafsika for a coffee, drink, meal or whatever and pick up a few stickers.

The forum keeps us going over the winter with news of friends here and there, and I hope this simple initiative will help to forge new friendships.

The stickers are not really that cheap to produce, so if you want lots we may ask for a modest contribution.

That seams a fab idea jimbo, and hats of to spiros for being up for some comunication and for sure some friendly banter, mainly i think as where to put the stiker...just not sure where the contributions might be directed..possibly for the old and ancient script writers asociation.....

Post by: Jimbo on April 11, 2014, 12:41:26 AM
There's no need to contribute unless the volume gets ridiculous! I would hope that people will try to preserve their stickers for as long as possible, and not expect everyone in the party to have one.

We want this to be fun. It's been a long, wet, flooded winter and we need to recharge our batteries in the sunshine.

Let's face it - it's an experiment. You can opt in or not. But let's not have any more ships passing in the night when a simple sticker could help at least to initiate an "Ah - That's who you are."

I hope also that this will encourage people to go to the Old Village. There are great places to eat and drink: for example, Beachcombers, Manthos, Fantasea, Nafsika, Mistral, Waves...

As far as the forum itself goes, we should not forget the generosity of Noula and San Stefanos Travel for hosting it. Please book your trips and taxis from them if you love the forum.

We old stick in the muds hardly ever venture out of the Old Village in the evening, but then we don't have far to wander home to bed from there.

And there was me going to have my own UTD shirt with CABMUFC emblazoned on the back!!!..however after this season I think a simple sticker on a tastefully patterned evening attire will suffice!!!..and staying just up the brew at Anatoli will not be far to go for it as well!! ;)

I'm assuming the sticker will not be a distraction when stuck on my leopard skin speedos.

I've changed my profile picture (on the left) to show the design. Hope you approve. The alternative was Gavin in his budgie-smugglers.

It has no lettering so that you may write your forum name on the bottom. And don't bother making jokes about "bottom."

Title: Re: Forum stickers

I tried, but the stickers are too small.
Title: Re: Forum stickers
Post by: Jimbo on April 18, 2014, 12:56:24 AM
I've changed my profile pic to show the final badges.

This does reflect the essence of Agios Stefanos Beach, and allows you to write your name or forum handle in the sand at the bottom - or - as this is the nudist beach, on your bum if you so desire.

I hope these muted colours will coordinate well with any evening wear.

Doubt if we can get these to Corfu before the season starts, but will try!

Well done Jimbo, cracking idea, these may help strike up a few holiday conversations that may not have occurred otherwise. May I ask what size they are?
Title: Re: Forum stickers
Post by: Jimbo on April 18, 2014, 01:41:48 AM
38mm in diameter - small, discrete, matte (for writing on) and, as you say, let's hope it gets some people together.

Let's wish a very happy Easter to O Spiros at Nafsika for supporting this initiative. He's murmuring "jug of wine" in the evening for badge holders, but I don't think we should hold him to to that yet!

Thanks. Let's see how long Vistaprint take to print. They wouldn't ship directly to Greece, so we have to do it indirectly.

STICKERS HAVE ARRIVED!

Gillie says the sky is not blue enough - but the real sky will be.

They are small and discrete. Bit like me. (DON'T BOTHER!)

More news later.

These stickers are world-travellers.

From Vistaprint in Holland to their base in Derbyshire. From Derbyshire to Hull.

Today from Hull to Sussex - to Chris and Carol -Chris No 2 - Special Delivery.

Wednesday morning, from Sussex to Corfu.

And THEN - worn with pride on the best-looking parts of forum members' anatomy!
Title: Re: Forum stickers

Sticker rules:

There aren't any bureaucratic restrictions. We do not want to annoy busy staff at Nafsika - so no checking forum membership and so on.

It would be nice if you were to have a drink or a meal when collecting or renewing.

Please try to preserve them for as long as possible. There should be enough for the season - but if not, I will take more out in July.

I really hope this will bring people together - particularly singles too shy to approach others, or people new to the village.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me - another forum I belong to has lanyards! They are quite in your face, but easy to spot in Orlando and the parks. I am not sure I would go for a sticker as I am so new to this forum. Also we are going in 11 days and I doubt there will be any seasoned travellers then.

Great effort by all concerned, well done in pulling this together Jimbo.
Just curious as to how many stickers you have arranged ? I would struggle to predict the number of forum members that may visit over the season , couple of hundred maybe? A few stickers per guest? We will certainly give it a go, have a drink or two at the Nafsika and leave a drink for you behind the bar by way of thanks. Cheers.

496 stickers on the way. I've kept a sheet of 24 so that I know that we have some, otherwise it would have been 520.

It's just a bit of fun. But also a way of meeting people. I've been on holiday alone many times, and it would have been nice to ice-break with words "Hi - Who are you on the forum?"

I, too, sincerely hope it's not rude. This forum is largely populated by people of taste and discretion, who only have amorous encounters on anniversaries.

Incidentally - I don't want people to leave drinks behind the bar for me. All I would ask is that people buy a drink or a meal at Nafsika to compensate busy staff for their time.

And, of course, this forum would not exist without San Stefanos Travel - so please go and see Noula, Sally and Hilary to book your trips, your taxis, and, if necessary, your wedding. (This extreme step may not be worth a small sticker!)

Lol, yes the dibb is a forum, much like this one, for people who travel to Disney parks.  I've been a few times and got so much help and info from the dibb.  Buttons, I'm TerriWest on the Dibb.  Not very original I'm afraid.

These types of forums for holidays are so good to know about, they're a huge mine of information and some of the most helpful and lovely people you could ever (virtually) meet.

Hi everyone - sorry for my absence on here - but I hope to spend more time here again, now I have recovered from the Operation.
I was still on the Facebook site daily, because I could use my phone to do it, but difficult to read this site on that medium.

The STICKERS are a good idea, I supplied wristbands for forum members, a couple of years back via Glen and it was reasonably successful, we met a lot of new people by wearing one.
I will be calling in as usual at the Nafsika to get mine.

As many know our holiday in San Stefanos was booked last October, but we've had a few health issues since then, mine is fine now - just fingers crossed time for Linda on Tuesday (6/05/14),
as she has a major operation to get through =  thanks thought for all your good wishes.

See you all soon, 17th June - 5th July - wearing stickers, & staying at Limani Apts, behind the Church (via Kostas - Fantasea).

If it only brings a few people together, I'll be happy.

This was, of course, inspired by Tony's wristbands, but I thought some little stickers were easier to manage, and easier to top up. The wristbands became a bit saggy (don't we all!) and tended then to flop off the wrist into the moussaka.

If stocks run low I can get some more in a few days, locate somebody who's going out soon and post them on.

If it works out, maybe next season we can have a sticker-design competition! I will discuss prizes later!!!!

The main thing is to have fun - and thanks again to Nafsika and Spiros for joining in.

Part of my motivation was also to encourage people to go into the old part of the village, where superb food is available at Nafsika, Mistral, Beachcombers, Waves, Manthos and Fantasea, but I've been saddened often to see it very quiet in those parts and very busy in the centre. The heart of the original Agios Stefanos is there. Let's keep it beating.

Popped into Nafsika twice last week. No Spiros, gone out, they said, no one else had stickers. Will try again later today.

That's silly, they should be readily available whether or not Spiros is there.  I hope this gets sorted!

How's it going with the stickers? Are lots of people wearing them? Have they been helpful in identifying fellow SS forum members?

It would be nice to hear the stickers are working  - leading to some hellos and chats around the village. We are not the most extrovert couple in the world - so a little bit of reassurance that they are being collected and worn with good effect in early season would encourege us all to join in when we arrive in July.

I've been wandering around for quite a few days now with my sticker on and nobody has took a blind bit of notice.  Mind you, I am at work in Gateshead Tyne and Wear.   ;D

Nice to met you and Gillie on the beach in Ag Stef last week. I did spot you later on in the week at the "nudie end" of the beach where you were joining in the spirit of things.

What concerned me was where you chose to attach your new "Jimbo" forum sticker. It was in a very prominent place and did wave around a lot, (well just a little bit really) when you were enjoying your surroundings.

If you're reading this B* n**n sorry! this will not appeal to your sense of humour!!

As the season has just about ended, having gathered feedback, I don't think this idea worked.

It was worth a try.

I guess we'll soldier on with word of mouth and diplomacy by hotel/taverna owners. I really enjoyed meeting some forum people through the channels of Dimitris at Little Prince and Spiros at Nafsika.

Private Eye's resident poet E.J.Thribb sent this contribution in exchange for a fiver:

   So - goodbye stickers
   Your glue didn't last long
And you fell off my tee-shirt into my stifado
It didn't matter because nobody wanted to talk to me anyway

Think facial recognition from FB profile pics seems the way to go.At least it allows you the choice to take the plunge or not as far as saying hello goes!!More the merrier I think as meeting people from here and FB made my ho;iday this year!!  ;) ;)

I think you're right, Carl. There isn't a simple mechanism apart from getting Glen to do "Wednesday Night Is Forum and Facebook Night" at Aquarius with favourable drink prices and special features like "Grab a Granny Hour" and "Spot the Idiot who put a 20-year old selfie picture on Facebook." That's probably the best solution.
