Title: Eating out!
Post by: Jacksi on July 25, 2013, 10:00:10 PM
I was just wondering if you were staying in San Stefanos for 14 (really 13 I suppose) nights which restaurants would be your choice to eat in on an evening and why?  In other words, give me an example list of the ones you would chose and advise us to try during our 13/414 night stay (I promised my other half I would prepare a list from all your comments as to the best restaurants to eat in but the list seems to be endless and I totally lost track of it all).

I have read and read about how good they all are and which everyone thinks are the best etc, so I am now totally confused - I realise this is a personal taste but if you could sort of list/rate which ones you would recommend to us (last time we were in San Stefanos we were half board at Thomas Bay and never really had the luxury of eating out on an evening).  We like traditional Greek food and good quality food, any nationality food, including steaks, etc really most things but not that fussed about fish to be honest (albeit prawns, crab and lobster - now I love those).

Any views/replies would be most welcome and get me out of a sticky spot with the other half cos I aint done him the list and we go next week!!!!!

As you know everyone has there own personal favourites and I am no exception to that. So here are mine but not in any particular order:

Olympia - just love the food and have never been disappointed. Nice and spacious inside.
Ozzy Oils - lovely Australian themed food and a great setting. Kerry and Nicos are fantastic hosts.
Zorbas -  lovely traditional food and love the nightly dancing
Little Prince - as Zorbas but a bit more hectic
Fantasea - very competitive prices , good food and a great setting looking over the sea.
Plus everywhere else not mentioned above. We also want to try the new Mediterranean place next door to Zorbas as it has had good reviews.
We also usually eat at Teresa (where we stay) once or twice  especially when the football is on!!!!!

Jacksi, as you are staying at Teresa's you only have a short uphill walk to the Romanza, so are in a good position to enjoy the wonderful food there.
Other places we have enjoyed in the past are:
Manthos Taverna
Zorbas
Yiannis
Ozzy oils

For bargain and tasty gyros - tasty corner!

We plan to try fantasea this year following its excellent reviews and the new Mediterranean restaurant.

In no particular order.....

Zorbas - great service,  food and dancing
Fantasea - Amazing place to watch the sunset
Romanza - Just gorgeous food. Book for the Sunday night Bbq
Yiannis - Great lamb on a Saturday night

We also liked the dancing and service at Little Prince but find the food just passable.
Olympic was one of our better meals but was dead on the night we ate there and most nights we passed

I'd echo Gavlah's views of Olympia - we're relative SS virgins (only been twice!), but both holidays it was empty (Sept12 and June13).  I know it gets rave reviews from others, but I can only speak as we saw it... so we haven't been.

Little Prince - I'd agree food is just better than OK, but you'll get a good welcome and entertainment is fun for all. Kleftico this year was v.good.
Two Stars - lovely welcome (but you'll get that everywhere!), food was probably the same as Little Prince, but they had some toys which enabled our 4 year old to play while we ate - occasionally a godsend!
Zorbas - good food, marginally better entertainment.
Terezas BBQ - not to be missed!
Manthos - good food, only been once for lunch though.
Mango beach bar - excellent for lunch, lovely setting
Summer Dreams - again, good for lunch, not the most picturesque, but sardines and meze were fab.

Didn't try Med Village - looked a bit clinical to me, new this year, but seems to be getting a good reputation.

Lastly, my recommendation would be to try the daily specials, almost always good value!

Id agree with Med Village. The one thing I did think it lacked was atmosphere! They also only sell half carafes of wine rather than litres

We'll try Med Village as new 7 sounds good - when we go.

Fantasea - brilliant
Beachcomber Bistro - for that different menu & great food - lovely setting as per Fantasea
Nafsika - great fun and good food
Ozzie Oils - BBQ Tues - plus Kerry singing - pure brilliance.
Terezas BBQ  - wed - - not to be missed
Romanza BBQ - Sun - - not to be missed
Little prince over the similar Zorba's
Olympia - - always been great every year - will defo go again - they do my favourite meal - worth a try and make your own mind up...
Waves - - brilliant food - fresh caught fish a speciality
Manthos Taverna

Lunch:
Akrotiri - - FANTASTIC - upmarket - views to die for....
Mango
Havana Bar
Athina Hotel
Waves
Mistral
Manthos Taverna
Summer Dreams

You have two weeks try them all..
Not really had any bad meals in San Stefanos - a few ordinary ones maybe - over the years...

Must agree tonyco1 Akrotiri is the best place for lunch . Best location in San Stef  possibly some of the best food definitely the  best views of San Stef .  and it's a beautiful building   Even the toilets are worth a look . O K it's a bit of a slog up the hill, but as we are usually staying at Tsaros we are halfway there   Can't wait     will be there in September

I had a couple of beers over the two weeks at Akrotiri..... however never ever saw a menu on any table or any blackboard etc!!

It was same at Gravia....... except from the chalkboards on the corner no menus etc. Couldnt decide whether they were serving or not. It was very busy...... but with folk drinking rather than eating!

Akrotiri only do snacks not 'proper' meals and you have to ask for the menu. But what a setting?! Where is Gravia?

If you walked out of the front of Akrotiri and turned left down the rubble track it's about a hundred yards down there.
How weird that they don't put out the menus? !

I think that they don't want you to feel pressured into ordering food. They are lovely people who love that we love what they have made.

The food is great and big portions - a decent choice - specialist breads - snacks that are like meals - lovely clean upmarket place especially the toilets - which always say's a lot about the place

Everyone, you must go to Manthos and try his " cheese in the oven" starter OR "spinach pie. Absolutely fantastic. Meat on the spit on Wednesday and Saturdays also fabulous
