Title: Olive Press
Post by: Ian on June 02, 2008, 02:54:44 PM
Just wanted to make a particular note of this restaurant. Although the food was perfect it is more down to the way in which the owner (Simone) was so welcoming and thoughful. Would come and chat with you and was particularly friendly with our 2 children.
Very happy to recommend!

Have to agree with you there - Simone is lovely and like most people in San Stefanos remembers you, no matter how long it is between visits.  The lamb is superb.

Got to endorse all that you have said with regards to Simone. We have stopped and chatted to her for years and then actually ate there last year. The food and service were excellent.

Didn't get to eat there last year but will be sure to try it out in August,

Don & Sandra maybe we could arrange to meet up there one evening. I think we overlap by about 4or5 days.

Simone and George & the Olive Press - do it for me - I have been friends with Simone since she was a Rep.
- so helpful especially when Linda was taken ill one year - she puts herself out for everyone.
Stayed in her villas (Leonidas Villas), many times as well, but it's the Resturant we love most.
The food is great - portions huge - Great service with a smile.
Most importantly, George only buys fresh daily and cooks the lot - no worry about sell by dates in this place.
This is why the meat tastes so good (obviously Georges Chef'ing Skills as well).
I had fresh tomato soup this year, (the best ever), followed by a Combo meal of Chicken breast, pork roll, and Lamb.
The chicken and Pork melted in the Mouth, the Lamb was the equal of Yannis spit roast, the Rosemary Potatoes brilliant.
but check the rest of the menu as well - all really good food.
We had Bailey's Cake for dessert - yum!! Her House wine is very nice too!!
A nice alternative Resturant for a great evening where conversation between tables just seems to flow as part of the ambience!!
Typical of the friendliness of the resort.

Sue we will have to make a date for that. Better off pre-ordering as things go very quickly.

Anyone know whether Simone still serves her delicious apple pie - it's to die for tho goes very quickly so I'll def be putting pre-order in on way back from beach if she does.

We have a saunter past on most days and have a chat with Simone. If you fancy eating there just ask for a table and order your food. That way it will be saved for you. They are not a place that cooks huge batches of anything.

Hi Don - we've stayed with Simone and George at Leonidas for the last 4 or 5  times we've been - mainly because they are large villa's with those half size baths for the kids. Simone is brill and always there if a problem - the only thing I would say about it is that they have not been upgraded since we've been staying there and there is no view to speak of. Villa 4 has a very small patio at back that backs onto Nafsika - We always go for either Villa 2 or 3 - although 3 is ok if you like wood - pine cladding all the way round and we found the mosi's seemed to come out of the wood - there is a nice sitting area outside the 2 bedrooms. Villa 2 is nice and has plenty of space, 2 double beds plus a large kitchen diner - not much patio space to talk of but all in all we've always enjoyed our times there and no hills to contend with and just a step across the road and you're on the beach. Plus take outs from Olive Press delivered to yr door. Simone also has a 1 bed villa which Rita and Terry used to take over for the whole summers but don't believe they are doing this now - again, very nice and patio looks over the Nafsika

Don - re above comment from last night - just to add that we didn't go to San Stef last year so Simone may have upgraded - just felt a bit unfair to put that comment in when havent been since 2006. Someone may well have stayed there last year and can advise.

It looks as though it would be very quiet which is what we love. What is the 2 person villa like?

Post by: Paulene Dean on August 05, 2008, 11:46:28 PM
Don - The 1 bedroom / 2 person villa was pretty small - kitchen area / bathroom / 1 x double bedroom - very basic and not much of a lookout as Simone and George have started building their house on top of Olive Press. But it is right in the middle of the old town but I wouldn't say very quiet as you have the noise from Nafsike next door - not that it is VERY noisy. But if you are looking for a base to spend yr fortnight then it's pretty good - am sure Simone will show you around when you are in town

No idea what was up at the Olive Press but it was closed when we arrived only to re-open late in our stay. There was no Simone or childrem and Simones parents had just left to drive back to the UK. We really missed our daily chats with Simone as we sauntered through the village and her mum and dad as we walked past their building.

I must say that we are great friends with both Simone and George, having stayed with them many times, over many years.
Unfortunately, in life things happen and people move on, even if that puts others in an awkward position.
We feel that we shouldn't really get too involved and will remain neutral and wish both Simone & George all the best for the future,
whatever path that takes them to & what ever the rights and wrongs of what has occurred, as it's their business, not ours.
Naturally we will see George when on Holiday and will not treat him any differently, and expect our usual welcome.
I am sure we will spend an evening at the Olive press as well & yes - - - we will miss Simone of course, but life moves on.
We would also love to see Simone (the kids),and her Mum & Dad again one day, but who knows if this will ever happen.
However, I am sure we will continue to send her a Xmas Card via her Mum (from now on), as we have done for the past 25 years,
likewise we will send one to George as well, which is all I can really say on this.
We respect your choice, we also understand that if some people are more friendly with Simone than George,
that they will make their own decision on how they view it.

Very well put Tony. We have been going to San Stef for 11 years now and stopping at the Olive Press for a chat with Simone was a part of our holiday. No doubt we will miss her this year, but we wish her well, and as you say these things happen and life goes on. We wish George continuing success with the restaurant and will have no problem going there for a meal if we so wish.

Love Greece I don't think that you have offended anyone. From our point of view we knew and liked Simone and have chatted to her and her parents many times over the years. We have though never met George, well not knowingly! We will give it a try one night but it will seem so strange walking past each day and not stopping for our regular chats. We tend to judge on food quality, then service and welcome together.

RE MY COMMENT YESTERDAY THIS WAS MY PERSONAL OPINION AND NOT MEANT TO UPSET ANYONE OR SWAY ANYONES DECISION SORRY IF ANY OFFENCE WAS CAUSED  :'(
Hi Love Greece,
I can assure you that no offence was caused at all, please do not think that. I was just offering another angle to it.
We respect your opinion completely, I am sure others that were more friendly with Simone than George will feel the same & vice-versa.
What I was just trying to say, was from our perspective, as we were very friendly with both, that we would remain neutral,
irrespective of what was said or came out from either "corner".
We will miss Simone so much, as my wife especially, went out of her way to have a daily chat with her.
I used to chat with both and often spent time with George, after all we go back many-many years with this couple,
and stayed in their apartments many times as well, we always used to phone annually to check availability,
and were often disappointed to find we had left it too late for our weeks.
But we can't change the situation so life goes on for us in San Stefanos.
You opinion is very important and please continue to post comments - that is what this forum is all about!! ;D :D 8)

I am sure there's bound to be a few hitches at the start of the season as lots of family life disruption.
However, the word is it will open soon and has additions to the menu!
