Title: Regulars
Post by: AdamG on April 08, 2008, 04:15:38 PM
I thought it would be interesting to find out how many people on here have been to San Stef before.

Ill start,.. my first visit was at the tender age of 8, i think?!  I stayed in an apartment block which has now been replaced by the Thomas Bay Hotel!!  I have been back most years since staying at The Golden Sun, as it was called way back when, then Stamatis, and then further up the hill to the Olgas.  I have also stayed at the Vicki and a an apartment by a pool further up the hill past the Therasa's, the name escapes me now though!!

Basically most of my childhood holidays were spent in San Stef so I have seen lots of changes over the years, but it still has that special something that keeps me coming back!!  Something that other places I have visited just dont quite manage to do!!

First stayed at Belle Vue in 2000 which are now being renovated by Casa Delphino and since then always at Teresa. Is the other place Kapetanios that you mention just up from Teresa?

We have previously stayed at the Perros and at a little apartment up the hill by the church (can't remember what it was called, but it was past a block of apartments with a nice pool!). this year we are staying at the olga.

This will be our second visit this year but I am sure it won't be our last, so I am not sure we are classed as regulars.
Mind you it is the first time we have visited the same place twice.

Fell in love with the place, wish we had found it sooner.

Stayed in The Athena  Hotel last year but are staying in the apartments that belong to the Athens Bar oppisite the Aquarious Bar

Can't wait

First visited in 1999. We stayed at Thomas Bay and immediately fell in love with the hotel, local people and resort. No particular order. We go twice most years and still love it as much as ever. We have also stayed at Kathy's Studios through Sunset Taverna, Vicky, Olga And Barras. This year we are booked into Barras, Efi and Stamatis. Unfortunately only two holidays!!! We have been 15 times before this year.

I have stayed In San Stefanos only once which was last year at the Tereza appartments.  We have been going to Corfu on and off for nearly 20 years and every year we spend at least one day of our holiday at San Stefanos.  We are not going to Corfu this year but hopefully will be in San Stefanos next year.

Watched the Athina being built in 2002  ::)  ::) , never thought we'd be back the year after.

Some great opinions here and interesting to see San Stef growing on people. Now less than 2 weeks to go for us and still as excited as the first time. We have even been able to extend our visit to a third week. So looking forward to seeing friends old and new. That is one of the beauties of the place. You cannot go anywhere without bumping into someone you know.

What`s a typical day for you regulars when you are in san stef ? Do you still find new things to do or is it relaxing by the pool by day and tavernas by night ?

We always have a walk every morning which we vary and spend afternoons at the pool. We also always hire a quad bike and go somewhere different - we even get lost and mnanage to find somewhere nice to look around.
Definitely tavernas by night and also the Aquarios bar as well which has a very relaxing atmosphere.

A typical day for us, who have been coming here many times since 1983, my Son was 4 years old on his first (our second) trip to San Stefanos (S S), and he is now 29 and bringing his son (aged 3) in 3 weeks time.
My kids grew up coming to S S, and my Son in particular, knows all the locals around his age very well.
From firstly playing with them as kids, to "Clubbing" in Caesars in Sidari as Teens and Adults with them.

S S, has this warm feeling that ''beckons'' you back, and affects all ages apart from those ''Lager-Louts'' afflicted with Club 18-30 syndrome.
Our typical day has changed over the years, initially we explored a lot more and know the top half of Corfu extremely well, so much so, that we rarely use a map when we drive.
We still take a trip to Corfu Town once a holiday for shopping and a meal.
We would take regular walks to the Harbour (and THE PRE-HARBOUR) area,
up and over the headland and around the local area, mixed in with relaxing on the beach.
When we first went in 1983, there were only 2 Hotels (Golden Beach & Nafsika - Nafsika had the only pool at the time) and 4 tavernas.
These were, the Barras (different name then), the Sunset, Manthos Taverna and Margarita's (attached to the Mini-Market). There were no Pavements, no Tarmac on the roads, just stones and dirt, no streetlamps either, you had to take a torch to go out!
One shop at the Mini-Market - now a supermarket (and Margarita's has closed and been replaced with shops).
Margarita's is/was next door to Summer Dreams Bar!!

These days we book for the best deal. We tend to use our S S holiday to "chill-out" and relax, on the Beach for most of the Holiday.
Depending whether we have booked independently (S/C), or via Thompsons (S/C or H/B), would dictate what we do for beakfast, something from the Bakers or the supermarket, lunch on the Beach would be a snack or bring food from the bakers plus fruit, or visit the Havana , Waves, Manthos, Mistral's or use the Athina pool snack bar, - worked on, just how we felt that day! We also spend the odd day by the pool as well.
We may do a boat trip or hire a car to do a trip out as well, and shop in Sidari occasionaly.
Evenings are spent in a Taverna enjoying a good Meal and conversation, or on to a Bar with music / entertainment - again, depending on how we feel that day!!
All-in-all a great way to relax, chill, de-stress, and re-charge the batteries before the dreaded return to work!!
We find that not only are the people of San Stefanos really great and friendly, it passes on to everyone around them and the visitors soon become the same.
Most people who book a holiday in this wonderful place have a similar outlook anyway so it becomes a really friendly place to be and conducive to making new friends and becoming one of the San Stefanos family!!
