Title: Kassiopi
Post by: dianeb on August 13, 2010, 09:05:34 PM
Has anyone been on the either trip to Kassiopi or the grand island tour - if so is it worth going?

Thanks :)

Both are worth doing for different reasons. Grand Island tour takes in various place including the Acchillion Palace and Paleokastritsa with the monastery as well.. Kassiopi is a lovely place to relax and have a nice meal if you go in the evening. The Grand Island tour takes up a whole day and Kassiopi not as long. We liked both trips. :)

as jules says kassiopi is a great place not sure how long they stay for if the whole day i would find it too long may be worth seeing if they stop on the grand tour for a little while then do that first and see if you want to go for the day

Did Kassiopi at night. Great trip, not too long  and a very picturesque place. Well worth a visit.

We went there last year, but we wouldn't stay there.
Nice scenery and it's worth a car-hire trip to visit the other San Stefanos in the North-East, via Kassiopi to have a good look around.

We always drive over to Kassiopi when we have friends to stay as there is a lovely lace shop there worth a visit, down in the harbour to the right hand side, think it's called Agatha's Lace?

Lovely lace there as Lesley says. We did Kassiopi and the East side by quad last year. Had a great day out including Kalami Bay.

Check out the return bus times!
Also applies if you go to Corfu Town by Local Bus.

If the late return bus only goes back to Sidari, (I can't remember now, but the last bus back to S S is not very late),
you can get a Taxi from Sidari, for the final bit, very easily!

There are postings around this site giving the Bus details,
I am sure someone will re-post for you - I remember Yannis doing this posting not so long ago).

We went on the island tour on our first visit, which is unusual for us.  But, you know what?  It was fantastic.  The guide was amazing - she lived in a nearby village and we picked her up on the way (she looked like a Greek Judith Chalmers).  We booked through SS Travel and it was the perfect intro to the island with lots of history thrown in.  Loved it.  A long day..........the Achillion Palace was beautiful and it touched a memory for me - apparently it was built for Emperess Sissi of Austria when she was grieving for her son.  Has anyone ever seen the film Mayerling with Omar Sharif and Catherine Deneuve, where he plays Prince Rupert and falls in love with someone other than his wife and kills her and himself at the end?  Well that was Sissi's son and this beautiful palace was where she went to rest - surrounded by the beautiful Corfu Scenery.  Am such a romantic.  Loved it.
