Title: Elpitha
Post by: swedebasher on July 16, 2010, 04:31:43 PM
Has Dimitri got his ar*e into gear and opened up this year? When i spoke to him in May he was talking of a new menu, so if open what is new??

When we were there last week we used Nonda's pool. We were told that the chef had broken his knee and wouldn't be opening this year.

Thats a shame as we always try to get to Elpitha's at least once during our stay - such a lovely setting and have always had a good meal there.

I imagine that dragging a broken knee up killer hill is a No-No!!
Shame - the first innovative menu in S S at the time!!
I always enjoyed the Elpitha food!

It was Dimitri's brother that had knee problems he told me in May, but spoke as if he was coming along fine- obviously not then. Bet the folks staying at Nondas are none too happy again this year :-\

No - bit of a trek back up killer hill after a bottle or two of wine + mythos, on a full stomach! LOL

Go the opposite way - Through Nonda's bungalows - Down the "step ladder" - Out through Peli & Marias - Also less arduous path behind the Little Prince and out by Tasty Corner !
Title: Re: Elpitha
Post by: tonyco1 on July 18, 2010, 06:40:21 PM
So it really works then - what exactly is the stepladder?

A wooden thing with steps pushed up to the wall with a breeze block and an iron pole embedded into the wall,

Title: Re: Elpitha

We coped. Nonda's missus coped. Peter Sadler coped daily.
Title: Re: Elpitha
Post by: tonyco1 on July 19, 2010, 09:59:42 PM
Of course Peter coped - he's the strongest bloke in San Stefanos!! LOL
The question was is it safe?
Was it as easy to get down as up - I always find Ladders can be dicey going down!

Spoke with Rita & Terry tonight who have just returned from SS - they stayed in apartments / pool next to Elpitha's - and they have reported back that it looks unlikely Elpitha's will open this year due to the knee problem - certainly wasn't fixed last week. And also Olive Press not yet opened although George was making noises that it would very shortly - lets hope so

Dimitri was doing some lounging. Driving off for ice cream, swimming and performing the odd bar-like duty!

Normal service then, one night many years ago when we stayed with Nondas,
he went out, Dimitri, gave us the keys to the bar and a jar to put the money in!! - and we did!!

Swedebasher, we stayed at Tsaros, came home a week ago, nothing happening at the restaurant, I did ask if it would be opening and was told no. Hope this helps. Don't know if you have ever tried Beachcomber but if not give it a go, brilliant food. I have done a restaurants review of the places that we dined at if you want to take a look.

Thanks Lilly, we have been going for over 20 years so know the place well, but always frequented the Elpitha because it offered something different to the rest. Mistral is tops for me at SS or Armourada at Arillas.

Don't forget to check out Beachcomber Bistro, Nikki is the chef who used to cook at Elphita, she is happy to cook any of the old menu dishes from Elthipa as well!
Just ask!

Agree on the food and always loved Dimitri's choice of background music - great atmosphere - but the old Monroes?? too small!!
Title: Re: Elpitha
Post by: swedebasher on April 18, 2011, 12:24:18 PM
Elpitha was never that large, we found it necessary to pre book a table to be sure, as I have seen many people unable to get in. Pretty sure that Sally was doing some snacks and stuff last year. Dimitri introduced me to the music of Madeleine Peyroux, which I found rather good for an old country rocker!!
Title: Re: Elpitha
Post by: tonyco1 on April 19, 2011, 09:22:40 PM
Yeah!! love his choice of music, but while the "old" restaurant was small, you were seated outside with that great view,it felt good!

Where would you seat at Monroes??

Alan texted me that - I think he means the bar for Little Prince in some strange text language, I did ask for clarification, and am, waiting still!!
Hmmmm!!!!!

Alan texted me earlier, they had lunch at the Fantasea and chatted to Kostas, he say's the menu is really impressive and the food great!
Worth a try and worth the extra few metres walk!

I'll let you know what he means ASAP

Wallis? What an unusual name for a Scottish lass.

Now, I would never, ever imagine that a baby girl born in Paisley would be christened Wallis by her parents. I kinda understand why she left. I wonder if she was conceived in the changing room of the high street chain. That would fit!

So Elpitha is still one of my favourite tavernas in SS, even though it did not open last year.

Does anybody (Lesley?) know if Dimitri will be opening this year?

I hope he plans to, although i think the chances of it being open for our arrival in May is slim to none. Heres to hoping.....

Haha this made me laugh Gav because I did exactly the same. I walked down past the first 2 apartments and it came out of the end one barking and growling, I ran off thinking it was coming after me, I didn't look back to see it was chained up!  My wife was in stitches.

Is this dog staying at Nondas in an apartment? or did I pick this up all wrong. We are staying at Nondas and don't fancy having to get past a Rottweiler everytime we are going out or in! :o

No no no!

It's chained in an apartment, in locked grounds past the Nondas apartments, actually closer to the Theodosia apartment block. Absolutely nothing to worry about!

Sally from Nondas posted the new facebook page to me yesterday. I have copied and pasted a few of the lines on the page for non facebook people to see. I looked for a web page but couldn't find one.

Welcome everyone!
We are very excited to announce the reopening of Elpida's bistro this summer season in the picturesque town of San Stefanos, Corfu.
With a creative new breakfast, lunch & evening menu for the Bistro we are looking forward to seeing all our familiar & new faces.
 See you all soon! Sally
