It's just a bit of fun. But also a way of meeting people. I've been on holiday alone many times, and it would have been nice to ice-break with words "Hi - Who are you on the forum?"

I think it's a brill idea and will get some when I get there.  I, too, have been on holiday alone many times and this will come in very useful.
Thank you Jimbo xx

For a truly authentic Greek Taverna, try 'Mon Amour'.  It's on the road to Corfu Town out of Arillas.  They make their own wine too :D

Where to stay / Re: Luxury.
« on: January 08, 2014, 11:11:10 PM »
luxury i suppose depends how you define it !! the family at Spiradoula are fantastic . so warm and welcoming , nothing is too much trouble . They also own Sugar and almonds which are really high spec if a tad up the hill , the views are stunning but my luxury is in Spiradoula . basic and very clean accomodation surrounded by beautiful people . Its why we return year after year .

I am returning to Spiridoula Villa this year with my friend from the USA.  I think San Stefanos is the perfect place to introduce her to Greece. :)

Try the Sugar and Almond apartments, they are very luxurious.  I know the owners and I have been in them.  Up a slight incline with views over the sea :)

Take a look at the website and good luck

I have eaten many times at Evinos and Sunset before it changed the menu - in the late 1990's/early 2000's.  Both served very good food with lovely views.

Unfortunately I don't venture that far any more :)

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Ilias in Avliotes
« on: November 25, 2013, 11:55:26 AM »
Car Hire for a few days is always a good idea regardless Bee as buses of course are limited.  Now there is plenty of choice with car hire as well in the resort.. So you can combine a day out perhaps over to Kassiopi or NE coast with an early dinner under the vines at Ilias in Avliotes.......

Yes I agree Lesley and as there will be the two of us it does cut the cost.  I'm sure out of the 14 days we will be there Kay will want to see more of the Island so hiring a car is the ideal way.  I love the drive along the coast road round the north of the Island popping into all the pretty resorts on the way.  Having two drivers and with one being more used to driving on the *wrong* side of the road it will be much easier :)

We are so looking forward to our holiday next year and seeing you and everyone else :)

Bee,in September we caught the 11.15 bus to Avliotes, cost 1.50 Euros,Popped into Ilias for an iced tea and said we would be coming back for lunch. We then set off for a stroll around the village, even climbed up to the church, not for the faint hearted as the hill is very steep.
We then returned to Ilias for a leisurely lunch and caught the 3.30 bus back to San Stefanos and the time just flew by.

I know what you are saying Dupnica, but I have so much pain even when walking a short way, I would be stuck sitting for a couple of hours waiting for that bus back.  I'm hoping we will be able to hire a care for a few days and that will enable me to get to the areas I can't walk to :)

Don't need a car Bee the bus runs up to Avliotes.

I would need a car or a lift, as it would be far too long to wait for the return bus.  Much as I love the walk back (and have done it many times) I am not capable of doing it now :(

Can you still get a car up to the top and to the Bar?  I know my poor old knees won't allow me to walk up that darn hill :(
