Try the Olympia or Zorba's Resturaunt.

I used to really enjoy the individual ones at Thomas Bay when Nikos was the chef. Not tried one since he left but his were and still are the best I've had. It is all down to individual tastes though1
-
had one in thomas bay in october and one in barras both were great each one a little different but thats the fun of going round and trying as many things as you can
-
had one in the little prince and also paradise both very nice :)

Try some of the local dishes - but ask the waiter to describe them first,
(e.g. some people prefer grilled meat to casseroled meat) - then you will have a good idea of what is happening with the menu.
As I love meat and lamb especially, (I love Kleftico for example), different Tavernas can do a slightly differently version.
A lot of the local dishes come as a varient of casseroles, but are very tasty.
-
I had a a kleftico in northen cyprus when I was nine. Are they similar ( lamb wraped in something cooked in an outdoor oven) ? Ony other thing I remeber was drinking 2l of water after it as I bit into a whole tiny chilli. It felt as if my mouth was on fire.
-
Kleftico is slow cooked lamb casserole, with feta on top and covered by foil.
Like Tony I love lamb,Cypriot cooking is superb [ probably better than Corfiot and thats saying something ]
-
Tony............ What is the lamb that Dimitri does in cheese? That is superb! Also on Lamb Thomas Bay used to do an absolutely brilliant lamb giouvetsi (spelling iffy!). Loved lamb ever since I fell for Shani Lewis!!!!! :'(
-
with you being from peterheid you should like lamb :D
-
or at least..... sheep
-
I love every part of the Moussaka - especially on holiday. May have to try a Tesco one this weekend for tea. :)
-
After the previous 2 to 3 posts prior to JulesT I really started to worry when she said :- I love every part of the.................... I really started to worry as you lot were on about sheep!

Of course not - a genuine Greek one on holiday is always best. :)

without sounding snobby, making your own has to be better than ready meals that go PING!
On the face of it moussaka should be straightforward,a lasagne without pasta but with aubergine instead [or potato]layers, but Ive yet to make one thats anywhere near authentic - I think it's the cheese sauce that makes it...oh and always salt your aubergine slices for at least half hour in a sieve,or they'll taste 'orrible

My wife and I both make, but hers is best. It takes a long time to make, at least 4 hours. There is less need to salt aubergine with new varieties.

What do you mean "oh and always salt your aubergine slices for at least half hour in a sieve" ?
-
Ok - if you cut the aubergine in slices, sprinkle them with salt in a sieve, what happens is that the bitter juices seep out, the aubergine becomes moist and absorbs the taste of the meat better and has lost it's bitter slightly tough taste, after about 1/2 hour wash them, pat dry and then their ready to be cooked..voila:) and cook the moussaka slowly...Zimmers greek cookery tip of the day
-
i dont think you can make any greek meal taste the same as when you are away no matter how you try there is the most important thing missing the sun shine makes all the diference
-
never heard of sunshine as an ingredient ???
-
Dunno Zimmer............... If I make a trifle I use Liquid Sunshine from the Jerez area of Spain LOL

The best wine we had in Corfu was also at Olympia. It was recommended by Stelios and it was a surprise how nice it was compared to how others have described some wines.

They will always do "special requirements".

If they're not at the Beachcomber when you drop by, we've seen them eating in Yiannis Grill (takeaway opposite Atherns Bar) a few times !
