Post by: loftyscot on July 10, 2010, 03:48:39 PM
Last year, one of the regulars posted a note about a great coconut fish curry they ate in the village. Anybody know which taverna it was as we would like to suss it out the week after next. Cheery :)

Definitely the Beachcomber. Now can also suggest Stroganoff!

Jimbo, I'm so glad she enjoyed it. I love curry and that is the best I've eaten anywhere!

Rock'n'roll boys, hi praise indeed,
As a veteran of the Koh-i-noor in Glasgow and the Shampan in Brick Lane, I look forward to it being that good. Roll on next week

Yes - can confirm it was the Beachcomber Bistro - and also can vouch for the Stroganoff as well - tried both last year and they were delicious - and hopefully still on the menu this year as well as maybe some new dishes to try out.

The fish curry has got to be the most overated meal EVER.  I was very disapointed.

Oh Rod, what a pity as you are on your hols ( I assume) do hope you did let Sue and Makis know as well as Nikki the cook as she will be dissappointed to know you didn't enjoy and would take all constructive cristism kindly and work on the curry again.  I will let her know anyway as sure to see her over the next few days.  We had a wonderful Ploughman's today as well as a tuna pasta salad, from their new light bites menu,  all we could cope with in the intense heat and it was very tasty and as always washed down with the wonderful choice of many wines they have.....

It certainly wasn't dry - lots of sauce. And it's a Thai-style coconut curry, not a Vindaloo!!!

I suppose Curries are the most argued over food!
Everyone likes a different strength or type, my Daughters fella' thinks a good curry burns it's way through the bottom of the plate!
I like medium as a max strength!
The Coconut Curry here was good when I tried it, so you speak as you find, and as previously said, if we all liked the same - life would be boring!
Shame that it didn't suit some.

I usually go for the hotter mild curries. The fish one was of course coconut but there were so many subtle flavours each taking the fore. Certainly blew away kormas or passenders. Not my normal choice but it was refreshingly different. When eating out I insist on something that I don't cook at home!

I do believe its a Goan fish curry and having lived in Goa ( 6months) and Kerala for several months in previous years can say it was truely very scumptous at Beachcomber.  Most curries in UK I believe are often based on an international theme of tastes not often reflective of actual areas the originals came from.  Hubbie is Greek and he truely enjoyed his food whilst in India but finds the vindalos etc in Uk a bit hot and tastless as its so hot all you can taste is chilles!!!!!

As with most food, it's down to personal taste.  What some people find delicious, others don't.  Don't ever be put off trying new dishes, no matter where you are in the world. ;D

Me having to flavour the curry with lots of salt and pepper said it all.  Honestly my taste buds are not "shot" yet.  My wife tasted my curry and also thought it was bland.  She thoroughly enjoyed her perch parcel mind.  As a footnote, I cleared the lot.  My mother taught me that.
